Walt Disney World is home to several moderate category resorts, but their food is far from moderate! You’ll find a wide variety of eats at each moderate resort from grab and go and pool bars to quick service and table service restaurants.
We wanted to bring you up to date on what’s going on menu-wise — and what a few of our favorites are! — at Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside in case you’re traveling there soon!
What’s Happening at Port Orleans French Quarter
The resort pays homage to all things New Orleans and Mardi Gras — which means beignets are plentiful here!
At the bakery or beignet station in Sassagoula Floatworks, which serves as this resorts quick service location, you can of course order beignets. One major difference between these beignets and the genuine thing from New Orleans…these beignets are Mickey-shaped!
You can get three or six beignets with or without your choice of dipping sauce, or splurge with a beignet sundae!
In the fall you just might find pumpkin spice beignets here!
If you’re not in the mood for beignets, one of my favorite, under-the-radar treats in Disney World is the amazing Mickey-shaped Pecan Praline here!
The bakery window is also home to the traditional Mardi Gras specialty, the King Cake, year-round!
The beignets don’t stop at the bakery window. You can also find a Beignet Cheeseburger at the Sandwich Window in Sassagoula Floatworks.
Read our review of the Beignet Cheeseburger at Port Orleans Sassagoula Floatworks here.
There’s even more beignets at this resort! We love the Baton Rouge Beignets, but at DFB we affectionately refer to them as “Boozy Beignets”.
You’ll find these boozy treats at Scat Cat’s Club in the resort’s main building.
Read our review of Port Orleans French Quarter’s Boozy Baton Rouge Beignets here.
It isn’t all beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter. Back in Sassagoula Floatworks, you can create-your-own rice bowl, dine on shrimp and grits, or dive into some comfort food and enjoy a fresh-baked pizza.
No visit to New Orleans, or this resort, is complete without a Po’ Boy. You’ll find this along with Jambalaya and Gumbo at the Po’ Boy Shop. This window also serves up the Sassagoula Power Salad and French Quarter House Salad. The Jambalaya is always my must-eat!
When you are relaxing at this resort’s pool, Double Lagoon, you can stop at the pool bar, Mardi Grogs for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, sandwiches, salads, and snacks — including a Mickey pretzel!

What’s Happening at Port Orleans Riverside
Port Orleans French Quarter’s sister resort, Port Orleans Riverside offers a variety of southern-themed food choices. These two resorts are connected to each other with a walking path, so you can eat at either resort’s locations and get your fill of southern and New Orleans inspired meals.
Port Orleans Riverside is home to a table service location as well as quick service location. The table service location, Boatwrights, updated their menu to include an all-you-care-to enjoy chef’s platter, much like the Wilderness Lodge’s Whispering Canyon platter.
Read our review of Port Orleans Riverside’s Boatwrights All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Chef’s Platter and more new menu items here.
In Riverside Mill, the resort’s quick service location, you’ll find several windows or stations offering a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We’ll start where we love to start every meal — at the dessert window!
The magic cookie bar can only be found a few places in Disney World, and this is one of them!
You can satisfy your coffee cravings at the dessert/bakery window as well as your sweet tooth.
Riverside Mill is home to two sandwich windows, one predominately warm sandwiches, while the other is predominately cold sandwiches.
There IS a warm sandwiches at the predominately cold sandwich window — it’s the Prime Rib Dip
If you’re looking for pizza there are a variety of flatbreads on the menu here, as well as a large pizza, breadsticks, or chef’s selection pasta.
We all need a lighter meal once in a while — and there’s a create-your-own salad window at Riverside Mill where you choose your ingredients and protein.
When you’re relaxing at the pool at this resort, you can find drinks and light fare at Muddy Rivers Pool Bar.
All of the food items on the day we visited were Disney Dining Plan quick service eligible.

I stayed at POFQ last year and loved it – apart from the beignets. I thought they were really heavy. I managed to eat one then threw the other 2 away as it made me feel uncomfortable. My favourite thing I ate there was the Jambalaya – not the bread though. Just the Jambalaya on its own.
DebC says
That “king cake” is not a king cake. King cake is a yeast bread with filling including a tiny plastic baby. That’s just cake with Mardi Gras colored icing.

The french toast at french quarter is my favorite on property! Can’t believe it’s not talked about more. Baguette french toast rolled in cinnamon sugar–so delicious!
DFB Sarah says
DebC, we don’t dispute this. 😉

POR has the best Quick Service on property, and FQ isn’t too far behind. When I worked in the reservations center, most of us agreed Riverside Mill was the best QS on property. I actually used it as a selling point to book guests into Riverside. I am disappointed that they took my favorite burger off the menu.. it had fried green tomatoes, bacon and pimento cheese. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, although very filling. When I ate at Sci Fi Drive in back in November 2017, it was on their menu and just as delicious. I’ve had awesome breakfasts at Riverside Mill too..pancakes with banana caramel sauce. OMG. I was very disappointed in Boatwrights though. A guest who booked with me raved about how awesome it is and I just didnt like it. Love those beignets but they need to offer more sauce than one little cupfull .

Do you have to stay at this resort to dine at these restaurants? I really want to try the boozy beignets but I’ll be at a different resort
DFB Sarah says
C, no! You can travel to and explore resorts you’re not staying at. Port Orleans is connected to Disney Springs via the Sassagoula River Cruise, and that’s a lovely way to get to the resort.
J Thompson says
This article needs to be updated to reflect the fact that the create your own party is no longer available at Riverside. Very disappointing.
April says
The shrimp and grits with the soft poached eggs in it is awesome. So rich and decadent!

I’m staying at art of animation and we went over and ate at port orleans French quarter where we stayed 2 years ago because the food was so much better. The rooms are bigger too so we’re going back there.
