It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the Opening Date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland has been announced! But wait… it’s also been announced for WALT DISNEY WORLD!!
It’s MAY 31, 2019, for Disneyland!!! And August 29, 2019, for Disney World’s Hollywood Studios!!
May 31st AND August 29th is when guests will at long last set foot on Planet Batuu and explore the pathways on Black Spire Outpost, sip on a concoction at Oga’s Cantina or perhaps some Blue or Green Milk, grab a bite at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or Ronto Roasters, take control of the Millennium Falcon on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and feel the Force in an entirely new way by actually entering into and being a part of the Star Wars galaxy!
Please note: part of today’s announcement by Disney was that the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction will have a Phase 2 opening, so it will not be opening in Disneyland on May 31st or in Disney World on August 29th with the rest of the land. Find out more here!

Nooooooo!
Booked for Sep 6th for 2 weeks and i was hoping it would be before opening, and people might be holding off their Sep visits for a Oct/Nov launch….
Now it’s going to be carnage! Don’t get me wrong, it looks and sounds amazing, but I’m not a huge Star Wars fan and I’d have gladly traded it opening for a peaceful Sep with tolerable crowds!
DFB, use some gentle words to reassure me that it just means the other parks will be quieter and Sep is still a great time to go?!?! Coming from the UK so it’s not like I’m changing it! Should i instead be excited that i actually get a chance to see it, rather than anxious that the ripple effect on crowd levels is going to be a nightmare?!
Thank you!
Luke
Dennis says
We are actually in WDW all that week. Will there be Fast Passes for the Falcon?
MS TANYA C ZUNDEL says
Darn!!! I was hoping by going that last week of August I would avoid the Star wars stuff, but now I am right in the middle of it, with my Holleywood Studios day being August 30th….. Time to reassess my plans for that week!
Andrea says
I’m there in September amd was hoping to avoid this as I can’t stand Star Wars. I hope the crowds stay there and leave the other parks for the rest of us to enjoy.
Nancy says
I am so excited what about disneyworld will Star Wars be open completely all the rides and everything ?!
Cole says
Ugh, no! I love Star Wars, but we have a trip planned end of September and was hoping to avoid all these crowds. It was supposed to be Fall!!! Now have to decide if I’m going to cancel the trip or not 🙁
Kim says
Cannot WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chtis says
????????????????
There in October & I’m buzzing
Cole says
Ugh, No!!!! This was supposed to open in Fall! I have a trip planned with my family end of September and was hoping to avoid the mass of crowds for this opening. Now I have to decide if I’m going to cancel or not. Such a Bummer! 🙁
Tasha says
I’m with Andrea, Absolutely gutted! I’m there September 15th-29th and was so happy that we were going to miss this. Need to get myself prepared for the heavy crowds ahead now 🙁
Cathy says
We booked months ago to for dates of 8/31-9/6 and was happy to know that we would be going during low crowd days. Looks like things will change drastically now. At the same time Im excited about seeing Galaxy’s Edge.
Melly says
YES! I’ll be there in November! I was so hoping I wouldn’t miss out! *happy dance*
I’m sure the crowds will be awful, but I’m so excited!
Sean C Phillips says
Amen,Andrea I was hoping it was not going to open until October. What you think crowds will be like that first week for the rest of parks,
Heidi says
We booked in September to avoid the Star Wars crowds. Ugh! Trying to be positive, but I have a feeling that Hollywood Studios will reach capacity and the overflow will fill the other parks. Thoughts?
Diane barski says
The force was with us! Just yesterday we booked our room reservation for week of Sept 2 and also was able to reserve a dinner at the castle! Now, this great news! We’ll be there amongst the thousands! Btw, we are in our 60’s! Wish us luck!
Steve says
Andrea-You can’t avoid Galaxys Edge! It is Your Destiny!!!! ????
SwimMom says
OMG! I can’t believe it’s opening this early! I have mixed feelings. I’m also going in September and hoped to miss the crowds, but happy at the same time that we will be there to see it instead of having to wait until the next Disney trip.
Liv says
Devastated.
We were meant to go last year, but due to some fairly horrific circumstances we had to cancel.
So we rebooked early September for low crowd levels, because I panic in big crowds.
Not sure if we will cancel again.
Disney Jean says
I’m there in October and not sure if I will tackle it at that time because of the crowds, but I will at least stroll through to fell the immersive vibe.
DAY says
I have the best of two worlds. I have the free dining plan, i just make my dining reservations and we have this Wonderful notice of galaxys edge. We arrive two days after land its open
DFB Sarah says
Diane: Good luck!
DFB Sarah says
Nancy, we confirmed this afternoon that Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge will also have a phased opening, with Rise of the Resistance opening later than the rest of the land.
DFB Sarah says
Dennis, Disney Parks Blog updated earlier today stating that there will not be Fastpasses for Millennium Falcon.
DFB Sarah says
Luke, the energy during the time of your visit will be absolutely one-of-a-kind. So even in the madness of DHS crowds, it’ll be something special to see and feel all of that excitement. It’s hard to say whether the other parks will be significantly quieter, but perhaps you’re right about that. Try to think of quiet spots where you can decompress during your vacation, and you’ll have a blast no matter what!
Dennis says
Thanks Sarah. The crowds will be nuts but I think the other parks will be quiet.
Lauri P says
Oh boy! I have mixed feelings…..we are huge Starwars fans….but not fans of crowds. Our trip is booked August 21-29. I just added another night 30th…… Hoping to keep all other plans intact and give Galaxy Edge a try on the 30th. I really hope the week leading up to the opening isn’t busier now. Also wondering if the fact that Rise of the Resistance is opening later will spread the crowds out. Maybe some will wait for both rides to be open…….hmmm…..
Arlene says
Sarah- No fast passes for Falcon?? How is that going to work? There are going to be tons of people in the park for this Ride in September. Are they all just going to que up for it? That line would extend out of the park! So why are they not doing fast passes? I don’t get it .
DFB Sarah says
Hi, Arlene! Here’s the text directly from the Disney Parks Blog about Fastpasses: “For your vacation planning purposes, please be aware that Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We will continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience.” So… not really an explanation from them on decision.
Chris says
Due to there being 2 phases, surely the real Star Wars fans will wait until it is fully open before booking their vacation. So maybe the first few weeks will not be too bad.
Donna says
Opening just before start of epcot food &, wine festival. They’re going to have a great financial quarter with that pair. Already anticipated crowds for that time of year. Its Disney everything will be just fine. Maybe you’ll be able to get a fastpass for flight of passage and seven dwarves mine train now!!! I’m personally more excited for the rattatoullie ride. Love that little guy.
Amy says
Considering canceling our September trip. I really thought Disney offered the free dining as a way to get people to book before Star Wars land would be open, therefore meaning it wouldn’t open til Over or Nov. Don’t like Star Wars or the huge crowds that will likely be there. Disappointed, to say the least.
Shay says
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one upset over this news. I’ve been planning a once a lifetime (and first time) visit to Disney World for September 14th-29th because I thought it wouldn’t open until at least October and all the crowds would wait until then. Now I’m not sure if I should just cancel everything.
Fernanda says
I am so devastated, they say late fall, I honestly feel lied to, I am so frustrated. I already booked and paid for plane tickets (from south america) for Sept 9 to 22 and now not sure If I should cancel or what, I was so happy I had gotten the free dining plan and all, now trying to look to book earlier, prices get much pricier….. I feel so sad.
Erica Bekerman says
Will they offer Early Morning Magic for Toy Story Land in September? We were planning on that, but not sure if they will have it now.
DFB Sarah says
Erica, we’ll have to wait and see! Hopefully so, but nothing has been said officially.
Jazz says
This ruined my Tuesday morning yesterday. We had planned Sep 30-Oct 4 thinking we’d for sure be missing out on the Star Wars madness. When I read this yesterday it was a no brainer that we’d be cancelling our trip. We are trying to move it to May but I’ll had to see if we can work around my husband’s work schedule. There is no amount of “excitement” that would undo the horror of those crowds for me.
