Even if the specific name of “Disney’s Walk Around the World” doesn’t ring a bell with you, you may still be quite familiar with the sight of the hexagonal bricks displaying names and celebrating family milestones on the walkways surrounding Magic Kingdom and the Ticket and Transportation Center (the TTC).
As “improvements are being made to how you come and go at all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks,” Disney has announced that the reconfiguring of walkways and tram loading and unloading zones (along with enhancements to security screening) will result in the retiring of the Walk Around the World bricks in the coming months. (The commitment to those who purchased the bricks was that they would be displayed until 2011).
The bricks were not designed to be removed individually, so Disney is offering the purchase of a commemorative version from now through August 31, 2019 (or while supplies last). Disney has provided the following guidelines for purchasing a commemorative version:
For Guests Who Sponsored a Brick
In-person Guidelines
Stop by City Hall at Magic Kingdom Park or Guest Relations at Disney Springs to verify your previous brick by sharing the name and hometown of the Guest who sponsored it.
After verification, you will be given a one-time use voucher to present by, or before Aug. 31, 2019, at Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. (at Magic Kingdom Park – separate theme park admission required) or the Marketplace Co-Op (at Disney Springs), enabling you to purchase one commemorative 6” brick at a special price of $10 (plus tax).
Virtual Guidelines
Email [email protected] or call 407-828-2701 with the name and hometown of the guest who sponsored the brick.
After verification, you will be provided a code to use by, or before Aug. 31, 2019, on shopDisney.com to purchase one commemorative 6” brick at a special price of $10 (plus tax and shipping) starting this spring. Please note, this code is for one-time use and will only be valid on shopDisney.com and may not be redeemed in person or at any other location. (Limit one voucher or code per verified guest.)
For Guests Who Did Not Sponsor a Brick
For all interested guests (those who did not participate in the original “Disney’s Walk Around the World” program but would like to purchase a personalized brick), souvenir bricks are available to customize and purchase starting at $29.99 (plus tax and optional shipping). These are on sale now at Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. at Magic Kingdom Park (separate theme park admission required to enter) or the Marketplace Co-Op (at Disney Springs), or later on shopDisney.com starting this spring.

Nichola Arton says
My family got one of these bricks back in 1994! The year after my little sister was born! We go and take a picture of the stone every time we go to the Magic Kingdom. I am definitely going to go and get a stone to take!
Karen Visocky says
Are they digging up the stones? Or paving over them? Such a shame.
DFB Sarah says
Karen, I would guess digging them up, but I’m not sure that’s been officially decreed. We’ll bring images of the work when it begins (if views aren’t totally blocked).
Lisa B. says
Sooooo, you paid to have a brick at the MK and now they want you to pay for a 6 inch commemorative like ornament. Man, that is terrible. I remember when I bought my first resort mug in 1997 and was told this would be good forever. Yeah right…….
Helen Howey says
Yes! Even tho I didn’t purchase one when they were offered I would love to buy one now!!
Tom G says
Got one in 1995 shortly after my mom died as Disney World had always been our family vacation since 1975 when we were kids and beyond. I visited it on every vacation, the last being in 2016. It was quite faded and difficult to read after all these years. Yes I am very saddened and disappointed but it’s understandable. Of course I am getting a commutative one
Bill Anderson says
What is the commemorative brick made out of and why can’t we have our original back?
Sara K. says
My parents bought me a brick when I was a baby – 25 years ago now. Over our countless Disney trips, we used my brick as a sort of measuring tape watching me grow. I have photographs of me beside my brick from every single trip – growing from a baby to a toddler to a teenager – on birthdays, graduations, and most recently on the day my now fiance proposed to me in the Magic Kingdom. It brought me so much peace and joy that a little part of me was forever in my favorite place on earth. I am so disappointed by this decision. It feels like another example of how they are steamrolling (in this case, literally) over so many guests’ memories, commemorations, and sentimental and emotional attachment to the little details that used to make Disney special. Their option to purchase a souvenir brick just feels like adding insult to injury, especially because the design on the souvenir bricks is nothing like the designs on the original bricks.
Sheri says
Are bricks at the Ticket and Transportation center being removed as well?
Candice Weppner says
We did a commemorative stone so many years ago I don’t even remember when!!! Probably when joining DVC back in 1994. Now we have to pay again!! Probably won’t even bother getting out our paperwork, if we can find it. Will go by one more time and take a look and let them pave over or whatever they’ll be doing.
Scott Miller says
We purchased our brick in 1993 with ours and our children’s names engraved upon it.
Though we always enjoy looking around and finding our stone with our children and grandchildren when we go, I also understand the need for change.
Disney is always looking for new ideas to improve the areas. That’s what makes Disney magical.
It will be sad however not to have that experience of brick hunting but I look forward to see what Disney invisions next to improve the entry area.
Having a piece of Disney to bring home along with the memories is a great idea but will we be able to receive “our” brick?
Otherwise, it would be like finding a mug someone forgot and taking it home as a Disney souvenir.
Just would not be the same as if it was your own.

Roe says
I purchased a brick many years ago and a shirt with the brick emblem on it. My brick is located on the walkway to the Grand Floridian. Are those bricks going to be removed? ?
Mark D says
We purchased several bricks for our kids and there family’s. Now some of them are inaccessible as they are on the walkway from the Monorai towards the Grand Floridian and it is blocked off. No last look!!!
Jen says
I have been saything the last couple of trips, that i would find and visit my brick but never got around to it. I’m somewhere on the pathway leading to the Grand Floridian. I’m going the end of September and I’m hoping that section will still be there.
Kimberly Williams says
The one thing you can count on is change. This is sad and disappointing but I’ll still order one. My daughter and I got one to honor my husband and her father for his birthday
Douglas Turner says
I also purchased a brick for my entire family years and years ago. It is located on the pathway between The Grand Floridian and The Polynesian. We visit “Our Brick” at almost every WDW visit.
My question. Is the same: Are the Commerative Bricks in this area also being removed? These are not the octagonal ones discussed in your article.
DFB Sarah says
Douglas, the only bricks specified by Disney are the ones at MK and TTC. We haven’t heard of any changes to the ones you’re referring to, so hopefully they’ll stay intact!
DFB Sarah says
Roe and Mark D., good question. Disney specified the bricks at MK and TTC, so the fate of the bricks on the walkway to GF remains to be seen.
DFB Sarah says
Sheri, Disney has said MK and TTC.
DFB Sarah says
Bill, no word on the material, yet, but Disney has said the bricks weren’t installed in such a way as to be removed individually.
Scott says
Is it me? Am I the only one who is upset?
Not because of the change. The stones are weathered and worn out so it’s time to freshen things up for sure.
I would gladly pay the $10.00 to get “my stone” back but Disney is offering those of us who originally spent $50 to purchase a stone with our names on it to now be satisfied with a “randomly” selected 6” memento once you “prove” to them that you did purchase one originally and then you hand them $10.00
NOT the original one you purchased mind you!
Remember when those of us who purchased the original Vacation Club
(Old Key West and The Boardwalk) and we were offered (2) annual passes for the next 50 years? That went away shortly after your first maintenance payment.
Then the offer came up to purchase a stone with your name on it for $50.00 to be used at the entry ways. What better way to keep the magic alive? Though you may not be at the parks, your stone still is.
Disney knew we would jump all over that as well. Think about it.
That stone cost “maybe” $10.00 to mfg and engrave. The remainder of your $50.00 purchase went to help Disney offset the cost to install.
That’s the real Disney magic. How to get you to feel as if your a part of it all while having you pay for it all. A page right out of Barnum and Bailey playbook. “This way to see the Great Egress”
I’m shocked Disney didn’t offer a certificate to us for the opportunity to purchase a 6” section of cable for the new gondolas. You know you would have done it.
It’s a way to be a part of Disney! A way to own a small piece of the magic.
Don’t get me wrong.
I love Disney. I always have and always will.
It’s a place where we can feel safe and enjoy the spleander of wonders and the memories created that Disney is famous for.
I’m just upset that a section of “my” stone that my children and now grandchildren enjoyed hunting and finding will no longer be there for them to see and might just end up in someone else’s junk drawer.
For those of you who really need to retain a piece of the magic, I still have several of last years mugs if anyone wants to buy them. You won’t be able to use them at Disney anymore as Disney made sure of that by adding that little chip in the bottom but it’s about the memories not the dollars right?
However, if it’s a piece of randomly selected stone picked out of a box by a cast member “Ye Be After” Be Our Guest!

DFB Sarah says
For those of you wondering about what you’ll receive for a brick if you did buy an original one: check out this post. We believe (and are trying to confirm) that if you use your voucher to buy a 6″ commemorative brick, you’ll receive one that mirrors the original you purchased. We’re going to see if we can confirm this, and we’ll update!
Kathleen says
I would love to get one but unfortunately I won’t be down Disney until Sept. I hope they would keep it going at least till the end of the year or Mickey’s 90th celebration was over.
Jennifer Hundt says
I never got to purchase a stone, but when you bought yours, there was a time limit on the stones (2011) and you did get an extra 8 years out of them. I get that it is sad, I would be too, but to complain about a contract you signed because the contract is up, is a little much. And the commemorative one, you are getting for 1/3 the price of anyone else. This is obviously not going out to those just expressing their sadness, but to those of you expressing anger and shock that this is happening. It was stated in your contract that this would be happening.
Scott says
Perhaps I should have done some research before I posted my last comments.
The commemorative stone is not a piece of the original stones randomly plucked form a cardboard box by a cast member.
It is however a customized version made to your specifications that “represents” the original stone you had once proudly displayed at Disney.
It still would be nice to have the original one we purchased.

Amanda says
Weren’t these bricks only guaranteed to remain in place until 2011?
Ren says
I’m thrilled that I can get a commemorative brick to present to my grandparents! I don’t know that they will ever be able to go to WDW again. I emailed to get a code. I look forward to surprising them!
I feel like $10 is cheap in the land of Mickey.
DFB Sarah says
Scott, I think most would agree with you. 🙂
DFB Sarah says
Kathleen, Disney says this spring, the custom bricks will be available to order on ShopDisney!
Marie DeCarolis says
What will the new stone look like and is it really a stone, or what is the material it is made of? Will it be able to go outside in my garden? We were just down there in Feb 2019 so I do not have plans to be there again this year, can this be one by mail? Like many of the comments above I would really like my original stone.
DFB Sarah says
Marie, Disney says they can’t pull up stones individually, unfortunately. We haven’t seen the finished material yet, but we’ll update when we do. You will be able to customize a brick on ShopDisney, and since you bought an original, you can also contact Disney for a commemorative stone. All the info is in the post. 🙂
Glenn says
How can I purchase bricks online?
Mark D says
DFB
We spoke with a Cast member from guest services, and we’re informed that the bricks from the monorail to the GRand Floridian were no longer accessable and that we could not view them and that they were earmarked for removal.
Mark D
Candice says
Well, the plot thickens on this subject. Our brick as well as many thousands of other brick owners have our bricks at this location and now it’s not even accessible!!! When did this construction start and Disney never even notified any of us? We live close to Disney and would have had one last look. Yes, I realize the contract was only until 2011, but it would have been nice to know they would never be accessible again. Funny thing those that have their brick over at TTC have now been notified of their future removal through your DFB and most likely not through Disney directly. Since my husband has mobility issues, it’s been a very long time since we’ve been around that walkway towards the Grand Floridian to see our brick. We purchased the brick in 1994 after joining DVC and just the other day my husband was saying he remembered in proximity to the Monorail where the brick was so we could go by and have one last look, if bricks in that location were part of the announcement we saw this week on the DFB. I’m assuming the Cast Member in Guest Services is giving out accurate information.
DFB Sarah says
Glenn, Disney says they’ll be available for ordering on ShopDisney “this spring”. We’ll be watching to see when the option pops up.
Linda Hamel says
I bought my brick when they were first offered. It has long been unavailable for me to visit due to security check lines as it is right in front of the entrance. I will get a brick just to have the memory. I agree ten dollars (plus S&H) is a steal.
Tiffani says
I would love to buy one of the bricks for my dad that loves disney
DFB Sarah says
Tiffani, the bricks aren’t being sold on ShopDisney yet, but we’ll update when they are!
Angela says
I remember when these bricks went on sale. I was a poor, first-generation college student with a part-time job. I could barely afford my college books; I could not afford a brick. I occasionally went to Disney on a deeply discounted, college student, one-day, one-park ticket. I loved seeing those bricks and dreamed of the day when I’d FINALLY be able to afford one! After college, I was paying off student debt, buying a car, and setting up a home; I still couldn’t afford a brick. But I never gave up hope that I’d be able to get one, and in 2011 or 2012, I inquired only to find out they weren’t selling them anymore. I was disappointed, but assumed Disney was just building more interest and would reopen sales when something else needed funds.
Now I feel crushed.
In some ways, I feel like with Disney removing all these bricks, not only will I not be able to buy one now, but it just leaves me with only the memories of my history with Disney and nothing else. At least in seeing other people’s bricks, and getting to share in someone else’s fortune in “owning a piece of the magic”, it was a nice reminder of my own happy memories at Disney……like “oh look! Jim and Janet were celebrating their 20th anniversary in 1995! That’s when I was in college and I personally met Mickey for the first time!” 🙂 And now, all of that “personal-ness” is going to be gone once those bricks are gone.
It saddens me….the hope of getting to be part of the magic and have my own personal touch at Disney is gone.
