HUGE news was announced today about a new smoking policy in the Disney Parks beginning very soon.
According to the Disney Parks Blog:
…beginning May 1, smoking areas will no longer be present inside Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex or Downtown Disney in California.
But if you’re a smoker visiting the Disney Parks, note that the entire properties aren’t undergoing a no smoking policy. Smoking areas will be provided outside the main entrances of the theme parks, and if you’re staying or visiting Disney’s resort hotels, there will still be smoking areas provided for your convenience. Disney Springs has designated smoking areas as well.
The policy begins May 1st, and note that it applies to both Disney World and Disneyland as well as water parks, ESPN WWoS, and Downtown Disney in California.

Wow people!!! Doesn’t everyone know that we all have bad habits that could always (and probably do) offend others. No one is perfect!!! I am no longer a smoker and cigarette smoke does now bother me and my husband. When we are there we don’t even know where the smoking areas are and we have never had an issue with getting sick from smelling these areas. This a bad idea and will make Disney lose a lot of respect and business. People are going to miss out on Disney vacations because of this. I don’t necessarily agree with drinking alcohol at the parks, but I don’t hate over it. Really people!!! Get over yourselves you are not perfect yourselves. You wouldn’t like it if we picked on you or banned you from the parks for your faults. Don’t do it to others.
Joslyn says
The designated smoking areas might not have been in the way, but they were still close enough that smoke could be smelled. If some of you didn’t experience that then you’re either lucky or lying, because in Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom especially it has been terrible. And Walt was ashamed of his smoking, DEEPLY ashamed of it but couldn’t kick the addiction, so yeah he might not have allowed it in his parks, but I don’t know if that’s true or not.
Lela says
As someone who is using vaping as a smoking cessation product, I was already a bit frustrated with being resigned to the smoking section as the smell of cigs is still something of a ‘trigger’ for me. However, I was happy to use the designated smoking areas rather than cause discomfort for non-smokers who feel just the sight of the vapor is unappealing.
In fact, throughout my life, I’ve found that some of the friendliest, least judgmental people in the world can be found in smokers’ areas, and we’ve been able to recommend vaping to those who expressed curiosity about our vapes and success in weaning ourselves completely from cigarettes.
I’m sorry that we won’t have those opportunities anymore as we move from 3mg nicotine fluid to 0mg (as the practice is not accepted regardless of nicotine content) and finish our journey to ‘non-smoker’ status. Those little out of the way spots have been particular favorites for my husband and I when we’ve needed a moment off our feet.
Peggy says
Discrimination at it’s finest. And I’m a non smoker. This is what my very wise teenager said about it.
I don’t like the smoking sections but I don’t think it’s fair. People don’t really smoke for fun, addiction is more of a mental health issue. They accommodate people with autism so what makes this any different? They still serve alcohol and that’s promoting alcoholism.
Tom says
I’ll give a CM viewpoint that most people don’t see, if all the smokers actually stayed in the designated smoking areas and put their cigarette butts in the proper disposal receptacles there wouldn’t be much of a problem but there is plenty of disrespectful smokers that don’t to follow the rules and try to smoke in in unauthorized areas and then throw their cigarette butts all the ground, in planters, waterways, fountains and other places also causing trash can fires. So someone had clean up all their trash and messes. I see it all the time when I’m in the guest areas and I always politely ask them to stop smoking and direct them to where the smoking area is, so most smokers comply without any problems but then there are others say okay then run off and try to hide and smoke in a different location. So to all the normal smokers who follow the rules and clean up after themselves, the people to blame are the disrespectful smokers who don’t like to follow the rules and litter the areas with their trash. So when you see your fellow smokers breaking the rules and trashing everything, you should tell them because of you we are losing our places to smoke.
Margaret Hubarewich says
Wow, I was shocked by today’s announcements, both regarding stroller size and smoking section removal. But what shocks me even more are the cruel comments from others. I AM a smoker, I AM no less of a citizen, I AM NOT disgusting and I happen to enjoy my habit. I follow all the rules regarding where I can and cannot smoke and do respect others. I am also handicapped to some degree and have to use a scooter when I visit the park. I don’t intentionally hold up lines, or speed through the park honking the horn, honestly I’ve never seen this when I visited. We are visiting next month with our toddler grandsons (2) and need a double stroller to enjoy our visit. I see some of you have a problem with double strollers too. I see comments about overweight people, handicapped people, smokers, those who might enjoy an alcoholic beverage (which by the way doesn’t make them a creep) as some of you describe them. At the end of the day, Disney is a corporation and my money seems to be as good as those who are slim, fit, able bodied, non drinkers, non smokers. So how about instead of all the slamming going on here, we agree or disagree with the decision but refrain from insulting so many people when doing so. Last time I checked we were all still people with feelings, and can be hurt by the words of others. When we’re in the park next month I can assure you after reading these remarks I will be worried about those of you who have disdain for me because I’m in a scooter, or enjoying an ice cream because I’m carrying some extra weight. How very sad. How can we possibly be talking about policies related to “the happiest place on earth” when so many of you who are park guests are so rude, uncaring and cruel at heart. This has nothing to do with smoking, it goes far beyond that.
Arlene says
I just want to say that cigarette smoke goes into the air – air travels everywhere, there are no boundaries to it. So having a designated smoking area does not mean that others will not smell or inhale the smoke. Having said that , I really don’t think Disney is instituting this policy purely for the comfort of the majority of guest who do not smoke. I really think it has something to do with all of the new rides and expansions that will be coming the parks. To prove my point, smoking will still be allowed at all of the Disney Resorts and at Disney Springs in designated smoking areas, . If Disney Corp was “anti-smoking”, they would have banned smoking everywhere on their property instead of just in the parks. The same children and families that go to the parks also stay in the resorts, and also visit Disney Springs . So this can’t just be about children or families, or even non-smokers. While the parks are expanding and many more guests will be traveling to Disney World in the future due to Star Wars Galaxies Edge, TRON and many other new rides, Disney is not making plans for any new designated smoking areas except the ones outside of the parks. So I really think this new policy has something to do with the construction of the new parks. Not that they need those small designated smoking areas to expand in, but perhaps more of a safety issue? I’m not sure, but I don’t think it’s discrimination. I think the decision to ban smoking in the parks has a more far-reaching purpose than we are aware of. Just a thought.

Dianna wrote: “When Walt was alive he never allowed smoking or alcohol in His park… If people appeared to have been drinking they were refused admission at the gate. I do not think he would approve of all the alcohol they serve inside the parks now.” Yes to the alcohol! I am not a teetotaler or an alcohol prude, but it’s dismaying to see so much beer, wine, and heavy drinks pushed and sold all over the place.
Matt says
I think having smoking areas right outside of the parks is a very fair compromise. The only issue I see would be for smokers on very busy days, like Christmas at Magic Kingdom.
William Wells says
For those of you making the comparison of smoking to being overweight or drinking, I agree that serving alcohol in the the two most child oriented parks (Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom) seems like a bad idea and more of a profit motivated decision. Some comments have suggested that Disney instituted the no-smoking policy for health concerns and therefore should also institute sugar and healthy meals policies. These are probably the same people who think McDonalds should have a ‘healthy’ menu, people don’t go to MIckey D’s for health food. This policy was instituted for one reason, guest comfort. Disney had finally gotten enough guest feedback against smoking that it was in their best interest to ban smoking. It was NOT about trying to make the parks an oasis of healthy living. The chubby guy on the bench with the triple scoop waffle-cone is not blowing smoke in your face and the only discomfort he might cause is when your kiddies see it and start whining for one.
John says
Noticed that this blog eliminated most of the negative comments and eliminated the ability to reply to comments they kept. Oh well, they don’t care about fairness anyway, as evidenced by their new no smoking policy. So should expect that to carryover to their blog.
Deborah L. says
Yes smoking is a dirty habit.you say this is discrimination. I say its disney being health conscious if you have to have this nasty habit why would you want to inflict innocent people that dont have this habit and dont want it.its been proven that second hand smoke can kill. I for one dont want my grandkids exposed to the effects of second hand smoke.
Niki says
John , you can’t reply to comment directly on here. Also DFB didn’t make the policy, it’s not their smoking policy, they’re just reporting it. They are not actually part of Disney, just an independent site that focuses on Disney
JT says
Isolate the smoking areas. Even have a couple of smoking bars WAY away from everything else. Smokers tend to get hostile and cranky without nicotine, so I can foresee a lot of kids having the magic disappear. I no longer smoke, but I’m not sure this is a very good idea. I could be a pill when I couldn’t have a cigarette back in the day.
Kim says
As a loyal Disney fan, one who goes once to twice a year I’m appalled at the new no smoking policy. We’re already shunned, and forced in mostly back areas with no shade or barely seating. I’ll proudly smoke wherever now if I go back. Disney is by far being discriminatory to their smoking guests. I’ve always followed the rules, gone to the designated areas and was ok with the rules. I completely understand not smoking in lines, or crowded areas. But with this stupid rule people will be throwing butts everywhere and not caring. You can’t expect people that spent 9-12 hours in a park to run to the entrance when they need one and go through security/band checks several times a day. You sell booze and drunk rude people are fine?? I’ve always found very respectful smokers in the 7 years I’ve been going. But rude drunks at Epcot is acceptable because Disney profits. Who else do you plan to discriminate against Disney? Shame on Disney.
John says
Niki – interesting because I replied many times yesterday and the day before directly under people’s comments.
Oh well, no matter. Even though I don’t smoke and don’t use strollers, I will not be visiting WDW. I do not believe in what they believe in and do not want to associate with and support people such as them.

“To the smokers who say you’re addicted and can’t give up. Why did you start in the first place?”
Oh dear, Bless your little heart…
My story…
Well… ya see… let me turn back the clock for ya… way way way back…
back in the olden days…
Smoking was considered cool or sheik. You could smoke everywhere…
Planes, airports, trains, hospitals, stores, supermarkets and not in a “smoking section” , you could smoke down hallways, offices, where ever… and EVERYWHERE! There were cigarette ads on roadway billboards , magazines, and on TV. If you were a high schooler at that time, like myself, all the cool kids were doing it., along with everyone else, celebrities, musicians, politicians, doctors, even dentists.
So go forward in time with me….
That one pack you smoked to fit in way back then… has now turned into a raging addiction that you’ve tried desperately to quit over and over again. A horrible daily curse that has beaten you to into submission. You know it’s bad, that it will kill you, but it weighs on you like a gorilla, calling for you hour after hour. You smoke with coffee, you smoke before and after meals, you smoke with a drink, you smoke to calm your nerves, you smoke to celebrate, you smoke while driving, you smoke to take a break, you smoke and smoke and smoke… all day everyday. It rules your every waking hour….It is insane.
And it all started for me when smoking was considered acceptable… and here I am.
I’m going to take this in stride and
I’m going to try to quit again…
I’m running out of chances.

I am (and always have been) a non-smoker. So I’m kind of up-in-the-air about this new policy. I suppose I’ll have to see how any changes actually affect me before I really voice a stance on it.
That being said, I *Loved* your comment about the screaming children. It cracked me up. I’m glad someone had the guts to say something like that, because I can tell you right now that those screaming children, and their obnoxious, self-absorbed, entitled “parents” are far more disruptive to my enjoyment of WDW than designated smoking sections, or smoking in the parks in general for that matter, has ever been. And people, CM’s for instance, are much more comfortable andwilling to say something to a smoker about following the rules for everyone’s enjoyment than they would ever be commenting on someone’s (lack of) parenting. So there’s nothing anyone can do – just suck it up and deal with it. Disney is meant to be enjoyed by all – even screaming, wretched children and their self-involved, obnoxious parents.
So I suppose my take on the smoking policy is that I hope they at least work to make it as convenient and painless as possible for smokers to leave the park, have their cigarette and re-enter. It’s the only way to make this policy work; I’m not entirely sure it’s “fair,” but if this is the policy, they need to do everything they can to make it as painless as possible. And I hope they do.

I am with Mushu. For those of us that have a hard time walking and can’t afford a wheelchair or scooter can’t walk out the front gate and back to where our group is very easily. For this reason I will not be back to the parks. I used to have a yearly pass. I guess no more…..I love Disney but this is too much.
Barbara says
YEAY!!!!!! Feel sorry for the smokers that followed the rules. But to may people were self entitled and thought they were special and could walk around and smoke anywhere they wanted, and toss their butts on the ground, in the water, in the plants. Disgusting behavior. I hope they enforce it and scan the magic bands of people that smoke inside after 5/1 and toss them for the day. Repeat offenders simply revoke their annual pass. It’s ridiculous that Disney now has to parent adults that can’t follow the rules. This is what is comes down to. They search your bags when you go in – take the cigarettes and tag them and you can go get them when you go to the new designated area. Problem partially solved.
John says
One positive. But refusing to visit Disney anymore, I am not at risk from associating with compassionless people like Barbara. I know she feels great not having any personal faults of her own.

if disney wants to ban smoking then they should also ban any and all alochol from the parks in case some child would happen to pick one up.. i and my wife have been coming to disney since 1986,every year there have been sutle changes made but taking away the smoking areas is the kast straw. after 33 tears i will no longer spend any money at disney or purchase any of there products . they are policially correct not people correct. bye bye dusney

From a 66 year old disney fanatic…and a smoker, disney has seen my last dime. Can anyone at disneyland honestly say there is not a way that we can be accomodated and not alienated. Planned family vacation in october will not be at disneyland and for the first time ever, any suggestion i give to anyone and everyone …disneyland is not worth it anymore. Too crowded, way too expensive, and way too politicallly correct.
Gene tausch says
Somehow i think that mr. can do walt disney would have resolved this issue without alianating 25% of us and feeding the egos of the overbearing and loud vocal few that just have to mold the world to their liking. He probably would have called his genious and bleeding heart unimagineers to come up with a probably very simple semi open shelter with an exhaust fan and filter perhaps in an existing smoking area. It could probably even have a screen so barbara wouldnt have to actually witness people smoking thus sending her off into a fit of convulsions. Walt had a reputation for making the seemingly impossible happen. This doesnt even come close to impossible and it could probably be done for less than the 8 grand i had budgeted for my cancelled october disneyland trip. What would walt do…eh?
Margaret Drayden says
I’m a non-smoker and have a very hard time being around any smoke. But, I’m wondering, is this policy limited to the U.S properties or is it a universal policy, including France, China and Japan? My understanding is that Europe and Asia have large smoking populations. Are they being told they cannot smoke on property as well? Or is this a policy that’s being tried out on the U.S. properties first to see how it affects Disney’s bottom line before introducing it to their other properties?
Sebastian says
Being autistic doesn’t give others cancer, that’s why catering for smokers isn’t like catering for autistic people. Every smoker chose to smoke, neurodivergent and disabled people don’t choose to be disabled – but smoking does also cause and worsen many disabilities. This makes a huge difference for eg people with cystic fibrosis. Why should they suffer because of your addiction?
PJ says
It takes a lot of walking to find the few smoking areas that were in the parks. Most of the areas were pretty discreet though. Walking to exit the parks will probably be an even further walk. We don’t know because they haven’t said exactly where the new areas at the entrances will be. I can’t imagine where they could put them at the entrances where non smokers would not pass by and complain, so I anticipate Disney will do away with those too eventually… will see. I am anticipating that a lot more people who smoke will be renting scooters just because of all the extra walking they will have to do to have a smoke. Not everyone is young and fit and can walk easily all day. The parks should be for everyone though… young, old, handicapped, fit or unfit.
KL says
I am for the ban. Others have mention that children having a melt down, people who are heavy set, people who drink, and persons who are different abled are somehow like a smoker?? This is completely false. Those who smoke are endangering our lives with second hand smoke. These other groups have no ill effect on our health. Period.
Arlene says
I have read all the comments about the smoking ban, and I am amazed at how many people are upset and are defiantly defending smoking in the parks. I am an ex smoker. I started smoking when I was 13 years old because I thought it was cool. By the time I was 24 years old I was married and had two small children and I was still smoking. I still remember my little three-year-old daughter coughing in the house and trying to wave the cigarette smoke from her face. I also remember looking one day at my sheer white curtains on the window and wondering what all of the yellow stains on them were from until I got close enough to see it was nicotine stains from my smoking. It was disgusting! I had a disgusting and life-threatening habit and it took a lot of prayer, and three years to finally stop. But one day I did. I woke up and I just did not smoke anymore. I was a true smoker then. I had a cigarette first thing in the morning, a cigarette after meals, cigarettes at work, cigarettes when stressed and cigarettes last thing at night, and running out in the middle of the night for cigarettes.too. So that I finally stopped smoking was nothing less than a miracle of God, and prayer, and wanting to live a better and longer life for myself and my children. So I really don’t understand why people are defending smoking? Not only are you killing yourselves with smoking, slowly and gradually every day, the second hand smoke is killing others. And why are you defending something that will cause harm and death to others? It is a proven fact – secondhand smoke kills. Smoke gets into the air – air cannot be contained, and it doesn’t matter how far away the designated smoking area is, Cigarette smoke travels and will be in the air just as those white curtains of mine proved it. So if you choose to smoke, that is your choice. However that is not the choice of thousands of others who do not deserve to be contaminated by smoke from your cigarettes. If only all of this effort would go into finding a solution for you to stop smoking, instead of defending the habit. we would have a better, healthier world. But I do understand that when you are a smoker you do feel threatened when people come against you because you have a habit that you’re addicted to, one that you think you like, but all the time it is killing you and killing others. To all of the smokers out there – I feel your pain. I was you. But I know that with help, prayer and determination you will be able to stop smoking. You will save your life and the lives of those around you. That is my hope for you. I applaud Disney’s decision for whatever reasons they had and also because it will make people think twice about this very deadly and addictive habit, and it will save many people from the danger of secondhand smoke. I am happy and blessed to say that my children have grown up and have children and families of their own now, and no one in our families smoke. Had I continued smoking, I don’t know if I would have lived to see this day. I wish each of you, smokers and non-smokers alike all the very best.
Andrea says
I wish there had been more notice, I go next month but booked last year, I can honestly say I would not have booked if I had known, I feel this is unfair.
I never smoked anywhere apart from designated areas.
I do understand although never seen the extra work and unfairness on non smokers of inconsiderate people smoking anywhere..
Deb says
Has there been any word yet word yet when Disney will discontinue all their nighttime shows that burn toxic chemicals in the air? Just asking. Their decision to remove the smoking areas really should go along with this. Those concerned about second hand smoke should have the same complaint for the same reasoning. But somehow I doubt that will be the case.
AB says
I doubt Disney has made these new smoking rules to accommodate non smokers visiting the parks but rather wanted to create better foot traffic areas due to all the new additions to the parks. I’m sure it was easier to eliminate smoking areas than to move them with ques to Star Wars, Tron, cars, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. opening in the near future. They would not want guests entering or exiting these new attractions in congested areas. Look at maps of the parks. One example is at Epcot. Will the additional guests be entering world showcase from the new skyliner into the smoking area at the gateway entrance.? Will the entrance to Star Wars in Hollywood Studios be through the smoking area where every inch of space is needed? Why do you think they are spending so much money to widen walkways and eliminate some curbs in the parks? I’m sure they gave little consideration to the great smoking debate!
Debbie says
I am a lifelong non-smoker but I have reservations for June with a large party which includes some smokers. Some of the smokers are elderly, who have smoked most of their lives, and will have trouble making it to the front entrance every time they want to cigarette. These people have been looking forward to this trip for over a year and now because of this policy change they are upset and and worried. I think smoking is a terrible habit but at least Disney used to be considerate enough to have smoking areas, which were out of the way, but at least a little more convenient for people to get to. The thing that I’m most upset about is the fact that Disney waited until the last minute to announce this policy change so that people who have already paid for their airfare, their reservations and their hotel can’t cancel. This will be the last trip we will be making to a Disney resort not because of the smoking ban but rather the fact that I would not be comfortable knowing that they can make policy changes that go into affect in a month, such as the park deciding to go vegan and no longer serve meat because it upsets some people (I am respectful of those who don’t eat meat but this is just an example of some stupid policy change they could make very quickly so as not to allow those who have already made reservations to change or cancel them.)

I am a non smoker but my husband smokes nearly 2 packs a day. This smoking ban is going to tear our family apart in so many ways. We all need to come together and voice our opinions to Disney. If we all unite maybe they will come up with a better solution. I just sent an email to guest services. Maybe if enough people complain they will realize that they made a very poor decision and change it.
lets all come together and voice our opinions to them! send DISNEY an email and let them know how you feel. I just sent an email to:
[email protected],
[email protected]
If any of you have an idea on how else we can overcome this please let me know because I would like to be a part of what ever we can do to change this smoking ban.

I was about to renew my annual pass to Disney but now have decided to let it go. This is discrimination at it’s finest. Disney has the money and the space to build non intrusive smoking areas. They just choose not to. I will be taking my money over to Universal for my AP this year.
Derrick Woodson says
I, as of yet, have not decided to quit smoking, but I have decided I am not coming back to Disney until some other arrangements have been made for smokers. I am not at all filthy, disgusting, or disrespectful will doing it and I actually get pretty aggravated when I see messes in smoking areas because I know it’s just a matter of time till the privilege is taken away. I don’t think Disney has thought about who it is that bring kids to their parks. You might bring your children once so you can check off Disney on the good parent checklist, but kids don’t get there by themselves, and as a parent also wanting enjoyment for a vacation that usually costs thousands of dollars, I can choose to go somewhere else, instead of a yearly trip there. If you were asking me to stop doing something illegal, I could surely understand, but smoking is not illegal and what I choose to do is my business until it is. Interestingly, Disney is forever updating their parks, and a lot is geared towards adults, otherwise we could all say “been there, “done that” well I just go back to the point that adults come to Disney also, some without children, for adult fun. I will be checking to see what Universal’s policy is on the subject, and also Disney parks in other countries. Try this in Japan, Disney, they’d never allow it there. I have worked a a few Japanese corporations here in the United States and the Japanese LOVE smoking!! ? I just have one request Disney…please let me know how much money you start losing when this starts!
Donna says
I am booked to go the first week of May, right after the policy is put in place. Three adults are going to celebrate our retirement, for the money I paid it will be the last time. I will go to Universal. I am a smoker who has always followed the rules, it outside away from the crowds. Just too much money not to be able to relax and enjoy. My friends accept me for who I am , this is discrimination. Sorry Disney you lost a life long fan.
Arlene says
From what I’ve read it seems we have a whole generation of smokers that are not returning to Disney World anymore. However, I’m not very sure if that’s going to be a problem for Disney. While they may not want to lose any current guest, or the financial benefit , I’m sure they’re concentrating on this Generation and future generations to continue to come. Smoking is not as popular as it used to be in the 50s 60s and 70s and 80’s .We have a new generation of young people who are more health-conscious. While I’m sure some of them do smoke, I’m pretty sure the majority do not. Everyone, including Disney, has become more concerned these days with the environment and the long-term effects of not respecting the environment. Also, I’m sure Disney doesn’t make any decisions without counting the cost. They’ve already calculated how many people will be offended by having to smoke outside of the parks and who say they are never returning. For every guest who decides not to return to Disney, there will be another new family of non-smokers who will take their place. I’m sure that Disney has done their homework on this. I hope that people will change their mind and realize you can still smoke outside of the parks, also in the designated smoking area at your Disney hotel and in Disney Springs. We also have to keep in mind that as much as people like to smoke – there are just as many people who don’t want to be around this smoke because of secondhand smoke and the damaging effects It can cause – especially to young children, who make up the majority of the population at Disney.
Judy says
So I called the Disney world .go com phone number to check on all the rules + regulations before booking. I was reassured of stroller size, designated smoking areas, etc… They did not tell me rules are subject to change 2 days after they took my credit card. I think they must have or should have had this information.
I would think Disney could have come up with a solution to guarantee everyone has a “ Magical day” Beware when there are rules made there will be more rules to follow! Disney needs to concentrate on more important safety issues. They could take away, sugar, fat, + Alcohol next?? Remember rules are subject to change!
Deb says
Hey Folks,
How much money do those Disney execs make? Looking at the app one has to laugh where they put the smoking areas. If you take the boat to HS expect to walk by the smoke. Arriving by the Skyliner to Epcot you will smell the smoke. Taking the bus back to your resort from the MK chances are you will go by the smoke. I really can’t see how this is an improvement, but hey, no matter to me, because Disney won’t see my dime.

All this crap about smoking but u can drink it up right??? In a children’s park and drinking don’t kill what the heck ever ?

Funny how you can’t smoke/Vape in the park now BUT you can still get Cancer from just walking around the park….I’m sure you have all seen the signs before….If not take a look see. Oh and can’t make vape clouds but it’s ok for the park to put out cancer chemical clouds.

I am a smoker and have loved going to disney for years. The smoking areas were always off the beaten path. I thought we are a country, this is just another right removed from us. It was bad enough to have to exhiled to a area away from everything, in the sun. Why should my personal choice be taken from me. I’m sure this decision was made because of non smokers complaining of the smell. I say, you got the whole damn park, don’t go in the few designated areas we use to have. Walt was a chain smoker, but you are enjoying the fruits of his labor. Maybe we should shut down the park, because a smoker designed it for everyone not just nonsmokers. Just another enfrigment of smokers rights.
Robbin Zaleski says
Funny thing is, the park put the smoking areas on the path of people, pretty shameful. Smokers are very happy to go off the path to smoke, but couldn’t because the mandatory smoking areas were actually in the way of people, again, pathetic by the people managing Disney world. Fine, I will save much money by not going to Disney,, I wont be back, but for those who had such a problem with smoking, please do enjoy eating your plastic chemical ridden food. Have they banned plastic straws, silverware. Wait bottled water? Enjoy those chemicals, and horrible environmental problems to society.

I am a smoker and have been an annual member for many years, always used the designated areas but my contract finishes in Jan 2020. I will not be going back again but they still will have my monthly subscription. How come no advance warning? or offer to cancel?

Way to go Disney! Thanks for being health conscious and considerate to those people who wish not to smell or inhale the toxic chemicals in cigarettes!

How’s about Disney bans smoking on all their properties with the exception of the parking lots. Last night we went to the Moonlight Magic event at Epcot and got bombarded with all the smokers lined up at the make shift entrance in World Showcase near the boat dock while walking over from Boardwalk. Ideally there should be a total smoking ban, but realize a smoking habit must be very hard to shake, although my son managed it.

Candace, as I said those people at Disney aren’t rocket scientists. They placed the smoking areas right in the path of where people have to go. They have already moved the SA at MK further out. Poorly planned move. So now smokers have the option to inconvenience you or don’t spend their money there. Some people paid big bucks for their vacation only to have a little over a months notice about the change. I have read that they are smoking in the bathrooms or just blantantly smoking until told not to. I have always respected rules and only smoked where it was allowed. I know you might not think so, but the rule is unreasonable considering human nature. They have put cast members in an awful position. Next I think that they will scan that magic band and send the violator a penalty. So I guess I have made my last trip to Disney. Yup, I know good riddins.

I personally think this is a good start but as Disney is such a magical environment they should ban it everywhere as secondary smoking kills 50,000 a year and there are so many kids around who may see it and try to take up the habit.
