Andrea says
I’m a United Kingdom resident and I’m chuffed with this. I like going for 10 or 11 nights during the last 2 weeks of September and POFQ is my resort of choice. My boss has approved my two weeks off work and I’ll be booking it on 25th April which also happens to be my pay day 🙂
Marilyn says
What about free dining for US residents? Not happy that AKL where we have DVC points is one of the resorts on the list. Why can’t the UK residents just go to the Park in Paris? Disney World is crowded enough as it is. As an AP; shareholder and DVC member, I am definitely not happy about this.
Liz says
Is it correct that Contemporary and Poly aren’t included? This seems odd :S
Andrea says
I’m a UK resident and am really pleased about this. I like going for 10 or 11 nights during the last two weeks of September and Port Orleans French Quarter is my resort of choice. My boss has approved my time off work for it and I’ll be booking it as soon as booking opens for us.
Andrea says
Marilyn – I’ve been to Disneyland Paris loads of times and most of the accents I’ve heard there are American ones ……..
Rita says
Hi, Disney are changing dramatically. Both US and U.K. residents have been having a very good deal. Disney like to attract all nationalities as well as US. The school mass trips have always been a pain to me. I am Uk but I visited Disney when it was first being built. I saw the lake dug out, saw the underground foundations.. I am now 70, and religiously visit ever year. My step father worked on the project. I am UK BUT Florida and Disney are my second home. Improvements have been made at Disney. Food, rides, theatres, parades, fireworks.new access roads, shopping, night venues. I have watched it change every year and become more costly. To tell you the truth I loved the old family Disney, but you just have to accept changes the New Disney way, and enjoy the dream.
Marilyn says
Majority of the US residents I know, such as one of our sons who is in law enforcement, can barely take his family of two kids to DW. We had to offer to pay for their Quick Dining Plan.
Catherine Ann says
Marilyn..- as a UK resident myself with DVC points in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, I am certainly pleased 🙂
Why don’t YOU go to Disneyland Paris, to give us a bit more room? 🙂
Luana says
Oh my gosh Marilyn! Get a grip! In addition to being an AP, a shareholder and DVC member like you, I’m also a Tables in Wonderland member and it beats the heck out of the Dining Plan! Since you have so many memberships, perhaps you should try TIW and then plan your vacations accordingly! By the way, “Free Dining” is not really free since since there are no discounted rooms. Besides that, it is a boon to the American economy! Welcome UK!
Andrea says
Luana – speaking as a UK resident thank you 🙂 I did a 14 night solo trip at WDW last year, stayed at POFQ, and got chatting to loads of lovely Americans like you. They all loved my accent! And they all said how brave I was flying all that way and staying so long on my own – flights take 9 hours.
Gilly says
Very excited about this! This will be welcomed by lots of us in the UK.
It’s a shame that you feel that way Marilyn. I have been to WDW many times over the years and spent a lot of money in the US. Perhaps if all of us UK lot decided to stop going you’d have something to say about that too. And I’m sure most Americans will be a lot more welcoming than you.
Marilyn says
We find that the dining plan works best for us since DVC members have to pay for it but I’d like to see the free dining plan offered to other US residents who can’t afford it. I lived in London for five years when I was going to college there and actually carry a dual citizenship. I don’t have a problem with them offering the UK residents free dining but let’s be fair about it. Enough said.
Andrea says
Marilyn – I thought Americans got free dining. I see it mentioned on all the American sites when it comes out. Also how many nights do you stay at WDW on average? Those of us who live in the UK tend to spend a long time in WDW because of the flight times and prices, jet lag etc, 14 nights is average though some spend a week and others 3 weeks and others in between. These holidays aren’t cheap and the 9 hour flights are no fun, which is why Disney give us these good deals, so we continue to spend money with them 🙂
Wendy says
Marilyn USA residents get Free Dining promotions as well.
I want to know why us Aussies who are the furthest away AND spend the most amount of time on WDW property get no special deals!
I can get the UK 14 and 21 day tickets I wonder if we can also book the UK plans as well?
WE’ve been having to book the USA deals for years and when you stay as long as we do a 10 day ticket isn’t long enough.
Vicky says
We r looking to stay at saratoga springs in July /August but can’t booked until Sept as its a vacation club resort! So how does that work for free dining if u have to book by July?
Tracey says
Marilyn I’m a dvc owner and a annual pass holder and shock horror I’m from the Uk ! I work hard to holiday in the US and we don’t get the offers that you guys get with DVC promotions pay it forward we can’t always access the dvc magic nights due to the way we holiday but I choose to holiday in Disney world and accept these things I wouldn’t dream of saying to anyone where they should or should not holiday too . I think you need some Fairy dust sprinkled in your direction !
Billie-Jean McManus says
I live in NZ and booked my accomodation thru the travel agent and I got my 14 day hopper pass via UK site as we are UK citizens also. Will I qualify for this if I phone Disney to apply the free breakfast??
Npe101 says
MARILYN honestly that is the most ridiculous comment ever. I mean come on , listen to yourself. For a family of four it would cost about 7000-8000 for a two week holiday to Disney that’s why they suggest the free dinning to try and help with costs. That’s like us saying well stop complaining about Disneyworld and fly to Disney land instead
Dm says
Marilyn USA guests also get a free dinning offer. For a shareholder, APH and DVC member you don’t seem to have a clue!
Law enforcement also get discounts!!!!!
Helen says
I would add that in the UK we do not get the room discounts that US guests do. Some people would prefer that to a dining plan.
But what an odd thing to say that we should only go to DLP. We are DVC members so you just try stopping us from going!
As for your comment about AKL being included as that is where you own points – you do realise that there are NON DVC rooms at AKL, don’t you? There are regular rooms in addition to DVC studios and villas.
Angela says
I agree with Wendy. Residents from Australia should also get special deals. Our flights are 14 hrs just to LA. We always stay 14 days – Love to be able to book the great UK deals .
Jeff says
You should be embarrassed Marilyn.
Just go away.
MagicbandKev says
Marilyn. As Walt once famously said ‘‘To all that come to this happy place, Welcome’’
As a UK resident I challenge you to go to DLP and try comparing it to the world class offering WDW gives…
Charley says
Oh Marilyn, if you’re there at the beginning of June, come find me and I’ll treat you to a Casey’s and drink, after all I did get free dining! Lighten up, life’s to short. Happy holiday/vacation
Lynette says
Marilyn, ever thought that disney world is “crowded enough as it is” because half of the visitors are from the uk and europe?? What a silly statement to make, who are you to determine where we should holiday. We spend around 10k to holiday for 2 weeks at disney even with the free dining plan. Disney would not be offering it to us if we didn’t bring in lots of money!!
Leanne says
Another U.K. guest here and I save all year for my Disney trips and I love the free dining perks that we get they also if lucky run alongside room discounts but why shouldn’t they! Most U.K. guest come for 10-21 nights at a time and these perks help massively with the cost so why would you assume that it should only be for US residents?
All guest should be entitled to the same benefits regardless so maybe stop acting so self entitled and lighten up!
FYI US do get free dining it’s just not out yet.
Sebastian says
Also of course, Disneyland Paris is a Disneyland themed park and completely different to WDW! Maybe you think Americans shouldn’t visit Tokyo or Paris, Marilyn? As has been mentioned, WDW is a long haul vacation for Brits and we stay longer – we can’t just go for a weekend. Americans get plenty of perks. I agree that there should be more offers for Aussies btw!
Pauline smith says
Marilyn
You have come across very badly with that post. Myself my mother and daughter are arriving in 4 weeks to Riverside from Belfast and we cant wait. Yeah to free dining ?
Andrea says
I agree that our Aussie friends should get more offers. Since they can buy UK tickets I think they should be able to get the UK Dining Deals as well. Flights to Orlando for those of us who live in the UK aren’t cheap and I dread to think how much they cost for Aussies. Plus of course there’s the length of the flights.
Sarah says
Marilyn that’s not a very Disney thing to say, I’m actually Irish but we book under the UK and Ireland free dining offer. Thankfully all Americans we have met in Disney have been very welcoming and nothing like you.
DFB Sarah says
Billie-Jean, it’s worth checking!
DFB Sarah says
Vicky, that’s a good question. Try reaching out to Disney directly about that so you can get an official answer. Good luck!
Victoria says
Free dining for UK and IRELAND! A heads up to any fellow Irish to book in pounds through the UK site to benefit from the current exchange rates. Thank you Brexit!
DFB Sarah says
Liz, I just double-checked the fine print at the bottom of the official page (“click here for details”), and Contemporary and Polynesian are not listed for participating Deluxe resorts.
Susan says
Might be a silly question but starting to plan our trip. When do 2020 dates get announced for US residents?
Sarah says
Marilyn – UK Disney visitor here… you sound like you need to chill out .. meet me in the Magic kingdom in August I will buy you lunch with some of my free dining credits to cheer you up ??
Julia Stubblefield says
Marilyn..
We are a family of 3. We go to WDW for 10-13 days.
We spent under $5k all inclusive for 10 days, 4 park days, 1 party day, all food, drinks, alcohol, tips, cabs, flights from STL to MCO, souvenirs, and special events.
We have less income than your Leo son. (I have a Leo Brother)
If they don’t know how to budget.. they will go less often.
We go 1-2 times per year.
paula gibson says
whats happened to october and november this year usually come over at this time for year for food and wine festival at epcot
Liz says
Thanks DFB Sarah! What a shame : the reduced dates and hotels shows Disney is doing well. Thank you for checking. Will get to those hotels one day!
Gina says
I got this deal when I booked last May for this year’s holiday. I booked through virgin holidays who also had a 10%discount running over the bank holiday weekend. Any offers/discounts really do make a difference. I ‘m super excited for our 1st wdw family holiday.
Toby says
Do Disney increase the hotel prices during these offers?
Bernadette says
Does anyone know why the dates only go to early October? Usually to end of October.
DFB Sarah says
Toby, typically there just aren’t room discounts offered simultaneously, so you’re paying full rack rate for the room but getting free dining (presumably to off-set, but folks should crunch numbers for themselves to see if it’s worth it).
DFB Sarah says
Susan: Not silly at all! Historically we see Free Dining announced in April, but this year dates were released in early January. If this was due to Galaxy’s Edge, we could see a return to spring announcements, but there’s no way to know! We’ll post AS SOON as the news drops, and if you’re subscribed to the DFB Newsletter, we send that out ASAP, too.
Helen says
I know that it is different in the US, but in the UK prices do NOT go up when free dining is released.
Andrea says
To the people asking why it only goes to the beginning of October this year – I suspect it’s because Disney know they’ll have no trouble getting bookings for October and November so there’s no need for them to offer an incentive to draw people in. Us Brits only make up about 3% of WDW’s visitors and there’ll be no shortage of Americans or other nationalities wanting to go there at that time. What I think might happen though is a lot of people who would normally go late October for half term will now go at the end of May for that half term since October half term won’t be elligible.
Sue says
So when would they announce free dinning if there are any for January or February 2020?
Sue says
When would they announce dates for January-February 2020 for US?
DFB Sarah says
Sue, historically Free Dining in the US is offered late summer through fall, although the 2019 dates were off a bit (we guess because of Galaxy’s Edge). Dates for 2020 will likely be announced in early-2020 for dates in mid-to-late 2020.
Vicky says
We’re going in November 2020 and are gutted to be missing out on this deal! I’m sure last year it included arrivals up to November 30th 🙁
As a result, we are picking a cheaper hotel than we otherwise would have, in order to make up for paying out of pocket for food. It’s a shame, because last time we went (2016) the free dining plan allowed us to try many different restaurants without worrying about prices, and we had some gorgeous meals we might not otherwise have had. Plus now with 2 snacks per person per day, it’s GREAT at the Food and Wine Festival.
