The Otter Grotto is newly reopen on Discovery Island in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We took you on a trip around the park this weekend and gave you a glimpse of their updated abode.
And today we’re taking a closer look, because after a lengthy refurbishment, we thought you might want to see the home for some of the park’s star residents.
Sponsored by OtterBox (ha!), the area is very lush and green — as expected in Animal Kingdom — with a lot of fun boundaries and sticks for the animals to play around on.
The walkway for guests is abundantly filled with plants and flowers.
And here is the entrance to a shaded guest viewing area.
There are also a few fun little learning opportunities, especially for kiddos. The one shown below allows little ones to see how large their hands are in comparison to an otter’s paw.
Signs throughout the Grotto give facts and information about the otters, much like the other animal locations throughout Animal Kingdom.
And as for the stars of the show…
Looks like they’ve got the perfect place to make a splash, play, and relax.
Welcome back home, friends!

The drawing of the otter is incorrect. It has the face of a river otter but the back flippers of a sea otter. Plus it’s lying on it’s back like a sea otter
