It’s been a BIG week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we’re bringing you lots of What’s New from the birthday park! That’s right: Hollywood Studios turned thirty this week! We were on hand for the 30th anniversary celebration.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary
At the May 1st celebration, Disney unveiled a new logo for the park as part of the festivities. It features three classic characters found in Hollywood Studios: BB-8, Mickey Mouse, and Toy Story‘s Woody! We’ve heard from lots of readers and followers who had strong feelings about this new look. Let us know what you think in the comments!
The celebration also included a fun and energetic character cavalcade. That’s where we got our first look at the Citizens of Batuu costumes for Galaxy’s Edge! Check out our post here!
Buzz Lightyear was on hand, too, rollin’ in his Pixar-themed convertible.
Of course it’s not a Disney celebration if there aren’t specialty treats, and there are LOTS on hand for a limited time! Lightsaber Churros are dressed up for the Light Side and the Dark Side! Click here for our full review!
Celebrate the main mice with these Mickey and Minnie Celebration Cupcakes — full review here!
And to find out if The Sorcerer’s Hat Sponge Cake Dessert is magical (and why it’s selling out super-fast!), click here!
And that’s just a glimpse…
Check out ALL of the Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary treats here!
Hollywood Studios guests can also score some 30th anniversary merchandise. See our full preview here!
And the 30th delivered a new nighttime projection show to the park: Wonderful World of Animation. We got a sneak preview — here’s what we thought about the show!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Construction Update
Entrance construction continues with three ongoing projects. The large structure near the entrance (which cast members have said includes an extended bag check in anticipation of large crowds later this year — gee, I wonder why…) is receiving its facade and a paint job.
Disney’s Skyliner gondola transportation system continues to progress. We’re still spotting workers on roofs and on the grounds around the station, as well as some scaffolding.
This area near the flags at the Hollywood Studios entrance is still behind a construction fence. Still no word on what’s happening behind it.
Just beyond the fenced off area is the new smoking area, now that smoking is no longer permitted inside the Disney World theme parks. See our post on the newly designated areas here.
Four benches and a couple of cigarette disposal containers are placed on the path leading to the Boat Launch to Epcot/area resorts.
Inside the park, the ropes that were in front of the Chinese Theater are gone, and guests can once again peruse the handprints.
And we noticed that the displays that once had Mary Poppins and Jungle Book items are covered up. As of our visit, you could still peek around the sides to look in.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Welcomes Fancy Nancy
Disney Junior’s colorful and elegant Fancy Nancy is now meeting guests outside in Animation Courtyard!
Don’t forget to give her a warm welcome on your next visit to Hollywood Studios!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Merchandise
We spotted a new Tiki Birds Alex and Ani bangle at Once Upon a Time. We’re loooooooving this, and we expect to see it at the other parks as well (take a peek in Mouse Gear and Uptown Jewelers, where we often find the Disney Parks Alex and Ani collection!).
Click here for more info about the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki bracelet!
And we spotted this new-to-us Minnie Flower iPhone Case for iPhone XsMax!
We love the texture of those flowers! So pretty and fun!
And with that, we say, “See ya next time” from Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Went to Hollywood Studios yesterday, May 4th. I haven’t been since they moved the entrance, and I have to say I felt disoriented. There are really no signs in the parking lot to indicate where you should go if you want or if you can take a tram. Nor are there signs pointing you toward the entrance itself.
I will say this..you hit the nail on the head about the Kylo Ren cupcake. That is delicious! Although I will say if you are getting a meal and want the cupcake for dessert, buy the cupcake after you finish your meal. That chocolate Kylo doesn’t hold up well in the humidity and heat, it was so melty I couldn’t eat it cause it made a mess all over my hands. But it is an excellent cupcake
