Great news (maybe?) if you’re going to be a Disney World hotel guest after Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on August 29th!
Disney is extending park hours AND adding more Extra Magic Hour options to alleviate the Galaxy’s Edge crowds that will be flooding the Orlando parks this fall. So…yeah…it’s gonna be CROWDED in Disney World, but at least you can plan to get up really early and maybe not get as lost in the sea of humanity as you would have otherwise.
FYI, Extra Magic Hours are times when the parks are open exclusively for guests staying at resort hotels that offer the Extra Magic Hour benefit — those include the Disney World-owned resort hotels and several good neighbor hotels in the area.
They’re usually only offered at one or two parks per day, but this year, from September 1-November 2, those guests will be able to experience Extra Magic Hours at three Disney World theme parks…EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Yep, Hollywood Studios — Galaxy’s Edge’s home park — will be open for Extra Magic Hours every day until November 2nd from 6-9AM. So if your goal is to ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ten times with low waits, be sure to be at the gates no later than 5:30AM! During these Extra Magic Hours, Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and other “select attractions” will be open.
AND, if Star Wars isn’t your thing (or you’ve already been there), you’ll be able to experience Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom for an extra hour every morning this fall. NOTE, however, that not ALL attractions will be open during Extra Magic Hours in the parks. For example, in Magic Kingdom, you’ll only have access to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland — no Big Thunder Mountain for you.
And the best part is that there are some days showing two sets of Extra Magic Hours for some parks like Magic Kingdom. On this date, you’ll be able to do EMH in Magic Kingdom in the morning and the evening! (Who needs sleep?!?!)
It’s also important to note that from August 29-31, Hollywood Studios will open at 6AM for ALL guests — you don’t need to be an Extra Magic Hours-eligible hotel guest to take advantage of the early opening on those first days after Galaxy’s Edge opens.
So, super exciting, right? And yes — this IS a measure to disperse crowds…because there WILL be crowds. Are you staying at a Disney resort hotel this fall? Let us know with a comment!

So with these Magic Hours, We are staying at the Music Resort. Do you have to register or pay to attend the extra hours? Sorry this is my first time going! Of course I picked a busy time..
AMY says
We are going the week of Oct 5-12. Really hate to lose the evening EMH at MK because we have teenage girls. We also had booked several park breakfasts pre-park opening that we will not be attending now… because the incentive in lost.
DFB Sarah says
Julia, they likely just haven’t released the dates for the fall yet, but we expect they will. We will post when they update!
Chelsea says
Is it confirmed that only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland will be open for EMH? The official post by Disney says “*including* favorites in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland” which could be read as potential accessibility to attractions in other lands not listed, especially when read alongside the EMH description for Animal Kingdom: “including Pandora – The World of Avatar and other attractions throughout the park”.
“Including” seems to suggest it’s only a partial list?
DFB Sarah says
Chelsea, here’s a link to DisneyWorld.com’s official ride list (always subject to change, of course!). I hope this helps clarify what they offer during Extra Magic Hours!

If Resort guests and non resort guests can get into Hollywood Studios at 6am on opening day of Galaxys Edge, will there be a separate line for resort guests once you get there or once your in the park?
Julie says
Hi
As a WDL guests staying on property you are guaranteed entry to SWGE. We are staying at a WDW Disney hotel when the EEMH are on which is great does this mean that we will get into SWGE or is it still possible we wont thinking of how many guests / hotels there are in Florida. Thanks
DFB Sarah says
Julie, if they reach capacity even during Extra Extra Magic Hours, it’s possible they’ll stop allowing guests until others have left the land. No guarantees at WDW.
Helen says
We’re coming from the UK in October. It’s taken us over 5 years to save up for this trip (£14,000, or $18,000) we booked well before any announcements regarding Galaxys Edge. We’re so excited for our trip, if it’s busy, it’s busy! Suck it up and get on with it! Ok, some of our early ADRs may be affected by this but so what? I’ve spent years planning but at the end of the day, we’re going to WDW to enjoy ourselves!!!

Hi
We have just got tickets for the After Hours MK Sept 2019. We have done a MNSSH before. Is there usually about the same amount of people at the AH as there are at MNSSH or is it less. Also what happens if the weather is really bad ie thunderstorms/rain wise and rides don’t run do you get a refund or any compensation? Thanks juls
DFB Sarah says
Julie, in our experience, the crowds have been smaller at After Hours, but of course that will vary. As for weather: same as the parties: no refunds. BUT we’ve heard plenty of guests who went to Guest Relations (prior to or during) the Parties to request compensation (usually in the form of tickets to a different night), so in that event, you could pursue that. Again, mileage will likely vary.
Alison B. says
Will places be open to get food in the parks that early? Especially for the 6am Hollywood studios EMH?
Brittany says
I really wanted to do the toy story early morning magic. So is it still an option or will they not be on sale?? Thabks in advance we are going oct.6th-oct.12th
Jared says
Look at Disneyland…I honestly, and hopefully doubt it will be busy. Galaxy’s Edge has been a huge bust thus far. Other rides in cars land and throughout the park are having higher wait times than smugglers run because Star Wars fans doesn’t like what Disney did with the land. Luke, Vader, Yoda, means way less people interested. Many just aren’t into the newer characters and a land that’s completely new. People wanted to see a land they’ve seen in movies so they could feel like they were in the movie. And with rise of the resistance being announced for October, many notebooks guest will hold off until then. I see Disney World flopping just like Disneyland did when it opened.
Courtney says
We are heading back to Disney Labor Day weekend and staying at SSR! Excited to check out Food & Wine Festival for the first time and to experience SWGE!
DFB Sarah says
Brittany, nothing currently shows for October, but they may be released at a later date — that’s pretty common.
DFB Sarah says
Alison, we’d bet they will offer food at various locations, including inside Galaxy’s Edge. But when we find out for sure, we’ll update!
cyndi slagle says
I was wondering if Disney will offer evening EMH for Hollywood studios in January- February 2020? Do you know when the schedule for early 2020 will be posted?
DFB Sarah says
Cyndi, we’ll watch the Park hours. No set date by which they’ll be posted. unfortunately.
