Greetings from Colonial America — also known as Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom! We recently learned of an exciting appetizer at Liberty Tree Tavern, and we had to try it! And once I got there, something a little lighter caught my eye as well. So when in Rome — or 1776, right?!
Atmosphere
Liberty Tree Tavern is a full service restaurant in Liberty Square, themed after Colonial America. It’s always been known for its huge Thanksgiving style meal, served family-style, for dinner — and now that platter is available for lunch as well. But we were here for something a little newer…and a little different!
The Colonial and Revolutionary War era details are in full swing here. The tables and chairs are made of dark wood, and 18th century paintings adorn the walls.
And don’t forget that every room is themed after a Revolution-era figure, like George Washington, Betsy Ross, Ben Franklin, John Paul Jones, and Thomas Jefferson. Here’s a famous quote from Mr. Franklin in his themed room.
So how was lunch?
Eats
As I stated, a family style all-you-care-to-eat meal is available! Check out the full review of this one here!
But today, we were interested in the a la carte menu.
And we started with the reason for our visit: the Traveler’s Loaded Tavern Fries.
These are thick cut French Fries, topped with Creamy Beer-Cheese Sauce, House-smoked Pastrami, Pickled Red Onions, and Scallions.
Overall, these were good but not great. I really enjoyed the beer cheese fondue, and the pickled onions added a nice acidity and tartness. But the fries were super salty — and being topped by a salty meat didn’t help. That said, the pastrami was prepared nicely and great on its own. The fries were just too salty for my taste, and therefore certain bites were overwhelming.
Additionally, it’s not a huge serving for an appetizer. Two people could easily share it, but any more than that and it wouldn’t be a very sizable helping. For these reasons, I would still recommend the Loaded Plaza Fries as the best french fry based appetizer in Magic Kingdom.
After such a heavy appetizer, I decided on the Colony Salad for my entree.
The Colony Salad is Grilled Chicken, Washington Apples, Sweet Pecans, Applewood-smoked Cheddar, Dried Cranberries on top of a bed of Mixed Greens and topped with a Honey-Shallot Vinaigrette.
Honestly, the stand out of the salad was the dressing. It was flavorful and light, without being too acidic. There was also a very healthy amount of chicken, as well as plenty of apples and dried cranberries. I do wish there had been more pecans for a heartier crunch, but overall it was a very satisfying and flavorful salad.
Overall
Once again, LTT is solid, but these two menu items just weren’t ticking the boxes for us today. It’s a great spot to try and get a last minute reservation, or hide out when the rain starts! I really did enjoy the salad as a nice, lighter option, however I wouldn’t go out of my way to grab it. Same goes for those Loaded Fries — pretty good but not great.
We’ve enjoyed other options on the Liberty Tree Tavern menu much more in the past – check out our other recent lunch review here! However, at the end of the day, the Liberty Tree is one of the few constant, reliable restaurants we can count on!

THANK YOU DFB! You let us know about the AP early FWF booking at 9am yesterday and we were on it! Very first time we got ALL our reservations!! Italian Food, Wine vs. Beer Pairing, Mexican Tequila Lunch, Party for the Senses, and Sunday Brunch with the Chef!! We threw in a few beverage seminars and the MNSSHP for good measure. Yes, it was small fortune but we now have one heck of a FWF Thu-Sun weekend planned! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

First they need to improve their cheap crummy fries before loading them with whatever they can find. Seriously, they are charging huge amounts for yuck food like this that sits back there and is not even fresh, the fries are deplorable. and people pay for this. Thats why we get mediocrity and Disney gets away with it. Instead of having real restaurants that put out food from a team who actually cares like they should, to them its just a cattle call and they are raking in absurd amounts of money for horrible food.
