When Walt Disney World first announced a forthcoming option for guests and Annual Passholders to upgrade their MagicBands, we heard from a ton of DFB readers and followers who couldn’t wait to partake in this fun, personalized option.
But since the bands became available to order on Monday (see the announcement here!), we’ve heard a lot more about glitches than successes.
If you’re one of the many who attempted to order a Disney icon, character, or snack MagicBand and met with limited (if any!) success, you’re not alone! We’re hearing about snags that include a reduced number of options when making a selection and orders being cancelled after they’ve been placed.
Disney hasn’t released any official account of why these things are happening, but some readers have reported calling Disney World and being told by cast members that many of the MagicBands have already sold out. That could explain why the options are reduced when guests try to order and why some orders are being canceled after the fact.
We’ll keep you posted if we learn anything official about the glitches in the MagicBand upgrade process — and if we hear that MagicBands are being restocked. In the meantime, comment below to let us know what you’ve encountered when trying to upgrade. And though it’s a poor consolation: know that you’re not alone in your MagicBand upgrading dismay.

SOOO disappointed, got my daughters today and went to get our bands. There are only 6 options! How sad. I hope they restock, otherwise i won’t bother getting them. Please restock soon!! Please let us know when.

Transaction processed but did not apparently go through. Almost all available options now sold out on the upgrade page, yet the same can still be purchased in the Disney Store. So is it really “sold out”? Disney IT botched this up, hope fixed soon.

Tried to order multiple times and have gotten an error message every time. Monday when I checked there were 55 options. Today 27 (and I still can’t get an order to go through). Most of the ones I wanted are gone now anyway.

On Monday I logged into MDE on my computer and got errors for a while. I switched to the app on my iPhone and it worked perfectly. I ordered the Mickey pride magicband. And this was for a band I had originally declined. I paid my $10 and it is supposed to ship shortly for my trip on June 18.

I tried to order the first day. After trying numerous times throughout the day I was finally able to snag the 2 we wanted only to find there was no link to pay for them! Needless to say the next day they did not show up under our names and the ones we wanted were no longer available.

I’ve been trying to order my upgraded bands since I saw your tweet on Monday. I had our bands picked and in my cart, but couldn’t place the order because I now have a second profile. It only shows up on my magic bands page. My bands are sent to production in 5 days, I still have the second profile, and the bands I originally tried to purchase are gone. My husband and I are taking our boys to Disney to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. I’m a little disappointed but trying to stay positive and upbeat. We can just buy what we want when we get there, but was excited about the discount and not having to deal with the issue of having all our information transferred once we arrive.

I agree with the comments on Facebook that they should have offered it to resort guests arriving the next few months first. Our trip is not till November so I’m sure they will restock in plenty of time to order ours. I was able to order my annual pass holder band though.
Although you would think by now that they would know just how popular an option like this would be.

After several error messages, ordered 4 the day of the release. I received an email that they have been shipped, however, only 1 of the 4 is showing on MDE. I guess we will know on Friday!

I had problems for hours but finally got it to work around noon on Monday. Part of the problem was that I didn’t realize I had to edit all of them not just the special ones .I was able to get most of the ones we wanted.

We have been trying to order for 2 days with no luck. We called Disney and they were not able to help with the order and said that the error messages were likely because the styles we were attempting to order were out of stock. We continue to try to order a variety of styles but continue to receive error messages.

I called guest services Monday and was told to keep trying. But they wouldn’t go through I thought because we arrive the 29th of may and I had previously thought it was because I had declined the bands or the shipping was too close and I wanted to resort pickup. called back Tuesday (pass holder line) and it took them a while to figure it out but we got it to go through. I must have been on the line 30 minutes, but so far it seems to have gone though

I too tried ordering the upgraded magic bands and the ones that I originally wanted were no longer an option. I called Disney and was told they were selling out but that they would be restocking. Today there are even less options available. Looks like it is back to buying skins on Etsy!

I wasn’t able to order them using my computer, kept getting error messages. I ended up using the browser on my Iphone and ordered absolutely no problem.

i have been trying since monday & can’t even get onto check our magicband status it has put about 30 entries on my credit card as each time i retried my card was debited & credited we go very shortly so i don’t think its going to happen for us

I went on this morning to order bands for a trip next month and am getting only 8 band options, none of which are appealing. This is ridiculous and extraordinarily disappointing that we can’t take advantage of this offer!

I had So many issues. First I couldn’t even log into my disney go account then when I went to my magic band I had to refresh the page twice I finally pick out the ones I liked for myself and my family I can put my credit card information and met with an error try again or dismiss. So I hit retry about 10 times before I finally give up I go back on the next morning and an met with the eight dwarfs page is unavailable after fleshing 5-10 times I finally get to the options only to find all of the options that I picked are gone. My visit is not until November so I have more time to try if they actually stock more however I have been really disappointed with the Disney app in general planning this trip this time. I have seen stich eating the page one too many times. The last time I had logged in to my account was to make dining reservations took me 45 minutes to actually get my account to work properly to make one. By this time all the good time frames are gone or left me with no options It’s been frustrating.

Ordered mine on Tuesday morning without issue but now no magic bands are listed at all! Make sure you check even if you think everything’s fine!

I had three orders go through, one AP band and two trips (upgraded bands for myself and my kids who are going with me on those trips). The AP band had issues, I kept getting error messages but kept trying and it finally went through after about 30 minutes. The bands for my trip went through without a hitch, although I did wait till later in the day to try those since I had so much trouble Monday morning with the first band. I think it ended up being luck and a super fast internet connection.

First there were 27 options, then only 16 – most of them the free colors. So disappointed I wasn’t faster on this.

I had been able to select an upgraded band a few days ago, but now it is just showing the old colored band I choose and getting this message when I go to edit –

You do not have permission to access this page.

This could have something to do with the fact my trip isn’t until December. Not overly stressed because clearly not in a time crunch but I hope everyone with trips upcoming sooner can get through!

Due to strong popularity, our selection of MagicBand upgrade options is currently limited. Disney Resort hotel Guests and new and renewing Walt Disney World Annual Passholders may continue to choose from a selection of complimentary solid-color MagicBands. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to replenish our inventory as soon as possible

I was on the website the first day with absolutely no luck. I finally got through the next day but was super disappointed when our 2 picks were gone. I hope they re-stock!

I was lucky enough to have no issues. Selected my band from probably 50 options? The sorting by color and theme was working well.
After choosing the band, scrolled down to Checkout button, paid my $10 by cc, and received confirmation and a follow up email. This included the information that “Initially, you may see a link asking you to place your MagicBand order, but this will soon disappear as the order is processed“
I take this to mean there are no takesie-backsies on the design I chose, and that my husband’s free blue band that processed at the same time can also not be changed, even though we have 75 more days.
It sounds like I was lucky to have a seamless experience!
My main critique would be that the Checkout Now was way at the bottom and it wasn’t a super clear next step after choosing the design.

My husband phoned yesterday after days of unsuccessful tries. The cast member said it’s a known problem. They said they will be restocked in 7 days and the glitches should stop by then. Fingers crossed

I tried picking my bands on the day that they came out and although it let me select them, it would not let me checkout as an error message came up every time I clicked purchase (which I’ve selected over 100 times on multiple platforms and internet servers. I have had to call Disney three times with over 30 min waits so far to no avail as they all advise to keep retrying. One guest service member provided the manufacturer’s number to find a restock date as the bands that we had selected sold out. They had no additional information about restock dates which was super upsetting. I find the whole situation poorly planned as they should open the platform in a staggered manner, just like they do for fast pass reservations so that the closer your reservation is (based on a time basis ie.30 days) to avoid the rush. I really hope that they do restock soon as our trip is coming up soon and our selection window is also closing soon.

The first day I tried, I couldn’t even access the site. It kept returning an error message. So i figured the site was overloaded with people. A few days later I tried again and was able to choose a themed magic band but the options were super, super limited. I opted to not change because I didnt love what was left.

Monday was the last day I had to order before our trip. So I just refreshed a billion times and it finally worked. I received notice they shipped ! So hopefully it starts working better for everyone soon. What an exciting upgrade

I actually just wanted to get solid colored ones, but I only had 3 color options. No blue, red, purple, pink, orange… Just gray, yellow, and green :/ I mean, it’s not a huge deal, cause we go a lot and I could easily use an old one, but I like to keep them as mementos.

I was able to order 3 out of 4. I was told the 4th one I tried to order was sold out at the time of purchase. When I talked to a cast member yesterday she said they were all sold out and that they did not expect the about of demand and response that they recieved.

I have been trying since Monday. Every time I click on “review my order” under my plans, it gives me a “Disney is unable to handle this request” message. And it’s not one of the Disney ones…it’s like it’s coming from the Internet/browser, if that makes sense.

Wasn’t able to purchase any upgrades. When I went in to do one, received an error message. Tried others later, and same thing. Error message because I am located outside of the US, or is it just a glitch? Also, I have read that it is a one shot deal, need to upgrade all at the same time, can’t do one at a time, or at future date. If this is the case, when I go into upgrade one adult, it makes me complete the whole process for the one bad (which is where I get the error message), how do I upgrade both?

Because we left one of six as a solid color it didn’t trigger the pay now button so we thought it was saved in mydisneyexperience as it had a picture of our selected band next to each person’s icon so I thought we were all set. there was NO checkout button so how was I to know? Now, of course, they are all sold out of the ones the kids wanted. Argh. I know, #firstworldproblems but still…

I am going to Disney tomorrow (staying at the Hilton Palace) but I booked & paid yesterday, in full, for my reservation AP resort reservation at the Caribbean July 3-8. I will ask over the weekend at Guest Services for more information about this hassle. My app, automatically, is declining a Magic Band.. I will be going to all 4 parks for memorial weekend..maybe I’ll get more assistance face to face. I will keep you all posted!

I logged on and looked at them Monday. I believe there were 51 or 54, something like that available. Then Tuesday it was down to 27. It changes every time I look. This morning there were 16. Talk about being unprepared… fortunately for me my trip is not until December. The unfortunate part is having to check daily to see if or when all the options are going to show back up

I too tried at day one with many errors, but my main error was the app having myself listed twice. The message said to pick our 3 bands but I had to choose 4 because of the duplication. Once I called Disney help desk they said give it three days. Well of course by now three days means no bands to select from. My sister was in and out with no issues. I guess it’s the luck of the drawn! Good luck to all.

I had no trouble ordering 4 Magic Band upgrades. Maybe because I ordered immediately after I heard upgrades were available? Our trip isn’t until April of 2020, but I think I am set with our Magic Bands. I am glad I didn’t have to wait to order!
