When Walt Disney World first announced a forthcoming option for guests and Annual Passholders to upgrade their MagicBands, we heard from a ton of DFB readers and followers who couldn’t wait to partake in this fun, personalized option.
But since the bands became available to order on Monday (see the announcement here!), we’ve heard a lot more about glitches than successes.
If you’re one of the many who attempted to order a Disney icon, character, or snack MagicBand and met with limited (if any!) success, you’re not alone! We’re hearing about snags that include a reduced number of options when making a selection and orders being cancelled after they’ve been placed.
Disney hasn’t released any official account of why these things are happening, but some readers have reported calling Disney World and being told by cast members that many of the MagicBands have already sold out. That could explain why the options are reduced when guests try to order and why some orders are being canceled after the fact.
We’ll keep you posted if we learn anything official about the glitches in the MagicBand upgrade process — and if we hear that MagicBands are being restocked. In the meantime, comment below to let us know what you’ve encountered when trying to upgrade. And though it’s a poor consolation: know that you’re not alone in your MagicBand upgrading dismay.

I was able to order 2 out of 3, so I’ll have to go back for the third later but yeah the site was a disaster. It didn’t have an out of stock message just would throw a generic call WDW message and the credit card portion was super buggy. They definitely weren’t prepared for the volume that came through. My trip isn’t til September so I am not as worried about it.

I get an error before I even get to the magic bands. I log in to MDE, I click on choose magic bands and I get an error that says I don’t have permission to view the page, it may have been deleted, yada yada yada. If by chance the page loads, it shows our magic bands from our 2016 trip and when I click on “Update Order”, it tells me Stitch ate the page, or I get the “You don’t have permission, deleted, yada yada” message again. Our trip isn’t until the end of July, so I have time, but I can’t even access the plain colored ones you get for free much less the upgraded character versions.

We placed the order and paid ON Monday. Four of our five bands came as ordered. The fifth instead of Mickey was plain grey. No call no explanation they just sub a grey band in for the ones that are sold out with your name engraved.

I’m from the UK and struggled to get on on release day, when I finally got on I was unsure what to order and with us not going till October I thought I’ve plenty time to order. I checked back the following day and 3 of what I wanted were gone (there’s 5 of us) I’ve checked several times daily since and now there’s only the free ones left. I hope they restock them or add new ones. If not they should honour the $15 off for I site guests.

Picked a specialty band for my wife and I when the offer came out, for our 10 day November trip. We were very excited. The next morning the bands were gone from our account??????? Very disappointed! Like many other Disney fans this trip is costing us around 10k……. this magic band should not be a problem…..very disappointing to say the least!!!!!

We ordered ours the first day they came out without a problem. Then my sister tried the next day and no luck in getting what she wanted. Happened that fast. Maybe Disney under estimated the demand.

Had nothing but trouble with this website. Managed to order two bands but the website is showing last years bands. Cannot edit or view bands, get a message the page is unavailable and to try later.Have been “ trying” for four days now. Money not yet taken from my credit card, is showing as pending since Wed but today received an email to say my bands will be shipped in 11 days. That is not correct, I am in the UK and Disney don’t ship to the UK. About time Disney spent some of their profit on a decent IT system.

I ordered on Monday, the day they came out, for our June 12th trip (this was after having a cast member reset our bands because we had already set our solid color bands). The charge landed in my account for a couple days. I called Disney to check the staus and they escalated the order. A day or so later the charge fell off my account and I can’t order anything now. I did call and the cast member said they could see it was escalated. They said that we should have no problem getting what we ordered even if it isn’t until we arrive. I think the escalation process is so that someone is checking inventory. I really hope they are right.

We placed and paid for our magic band order on the 20th of May. I woke this morning to a bank notification that the payment has been reverted. Just checked and the bands are no longer on our account and the order page is not working ?

I had so much trouble trying to get a fancy Magicband for my husband and my trip in October the first day it was released. I literally tried all day at work, while I was out to dinner with my husband, and then later while at home. No luck. My cats wake me up sooooo early, so the next day I was able to purchase them at 5:30 EST. So pumped! I wanted Baymax and I decided that my husband should get the Epcot one….seems both were good choices. They are displayed on our MDE account and it says they shipped. I’m extra pumped about that because we will be in Orlando in early July (and are going to Disney for a day). Looks like we will have fancy bands for both!

Ordered first thing Monday (20th about 8:30am) morning. It was glitchy but I persisted retrying, refreshing, rebooting, restarting, etc. I was able to customize 3 sets (13 total bands). We have a split stay, 1 set of 4 bands and 1 set of 5 bands, and are also AP holders, 1 set of 4 bands. By 11:30am I had all 3 sets customized and have already received them. I am so fortunate as I’ve heard so many problems for others. Good luck to all and be patient and persistent. °○°

I’ve been checking multiple times daily. Yesterday morning it showed like 52 or 54 available so I thought it was fixed. But when I attempted to add one to my cart it said there was an error and to call Disney. By yesterday afternoon and today as well there are only 8 showing, all the free ones , so I guess I’ll have to continue checking daily.

I tried and tried to purchase 3 of these bands they let me put 3 in cart then when I went to check out error messages I kept refreshing for a whole hour and nothing happened. So I called Disney they couldn’t do anything. They said try later in day so I did then they were all sold out terrible experience Disney. I called back and I was told another story. Come on Disney get your stuff together I just wanna give you more money ha

We were able to order on May 21st. Got confirmation email and CC charged. Got another email that the order had been delayed and order not charged now. Now when I go to MB page I see the colored ones we ordered. I cannot edit them even though I have 3 days to change. What a mess.

I was finally able to get to the bands page by using an incognito window. A friend on a Disney forum said she had heard that some people had success with incognito, and it worked for me, so if you’re having trouble, you might try it.

The thing that frustrates me most about this is they don’t say on their MDE website that the upgraded bands are sold out. They just tell you that you have the choice to upgrade. But if you try to filter by price or theme, you get “no results”. It would be nice if the site said “You can look but we are currently out of stock. We’ll replenish as soon as we can” or something.
I’m months out from my own trip but wouldn’t mind looking at what’s going to be available

I ordered ours on launch day. It took a few hours for the website to work but eventually it did. Got them at our house about 2 weeks later. Guess we were lucky…I’m sure they will get it all straightened out.

I *thought* we were successful for our party of five (after much deliberation with the kids choices!) but then just went into MDE and noticed we were back to plain colors. Ugh. I have an email out to Signature Services (we are staying club level – BEST perk) so we’ll see what they say.

More Magic Bands released 6.21.19 and once more I was unable to get between selection to payment. I kept being thrown out and the message saying to contact Customer Service would display. So, I contacted customer service, waited online for 30 minutes, during which time the bands I wanted were purchased by others. Once I did get someone online, I was told there was nothing they can do, and that I would have to wait for more Magic Bands to be released in the future. The problem is that this is the second time now and Disney has still not fixed their system to account for the high demand for this service.

Keep trying as I successfully (yes after a month) finally was able to secure the magic band of my choice. Interesting enough the haunted mansion looked updated, so maybe the month of madness was worth the way. Still in agreement Disney should have put this in a tier monthly system so visitors arriving in the next two months or so would have first choice! ???

My husband and I have been trying for the past few days and nothing but error messages! We really want the space ship earth one and the dole whip one. Sometimes lets us choose it but not check out and resets the bands. I am surprised that Disney didn’t put more thought into this! With all the price hikes lately (That they have no problem doing) but a discounted item is an issue. ugh.

Premium Magic Bands were restocked, more than 20 designs several moments ago. Was able to place an order without any errors!

Just in regards to the comment about the bands being restocked yesterday – I am being met with severe glitches and have not been able to order any band. I am checking every hour and things seem to be jumping around. Sometimes I’m even getting to the payment screen and just getting knocked back again. So it’s safe to assume they didn’t adjust to the first time issues.

The link page to preset con cited to my holiday wasn’t working so called Disney spent 45 mins on the phone to be told it’s too early for me to order(even though giving me the option) and to try later. Also it maybe my phone/iPads issue and nothing wrong with there site. Ok we have a year to go but little things completed like this help in the long run as so much to plan and sort out. Have tried again this morning and it’s still not working.

It’s a total disaster attempting to do this, particularly with a party of 5. I can’t imagine anyone having to do this for more than a few people at a time. My wife are also annual pass holders, so I was able to close our order for just 2 (we hadn’t taken advantage of our pass holder magic band order so used it just for this for an upcoming trip). But for the rest of the family, it’s just a huge disappointment – you think you’ve gotten them completed, finally thinking you have them in your list, go to complete the order and some disappear again.
I’ve spent several hours now off and on and let me tell you, there is no magic in this. 🙁

Been having issues none stop, every time I can choose the bands but when I place order it glitches and I have to re select bands again, spoke to Disney who informed me they are sold out but I can buy the exact same ones for 25 dollars on shop Disney, when youre paying thousands for a holiday and are then told you can’t buy something for 10 dollars but you can for 25 dollars you kind of lose the sense of magic

Been trying to get the themed Magic Bands since they were announced – been trying almost every day. From pages crashing to none available and now when I select the magic bands it will accept it and then just disappear. I have yet to get one. Absolutely ridiculous and no one at Disney will do a thing. I asked if guest services can order them for me since I either get a page crash or a disappearing band and was told no. What kind of customer service is that. What a fiasco!!!! Disney Service going down hill.

I have been trying to order since they came out for our September trip! No success yet and I’m going with a party of 7 people. Honestly, i have been checking almost every day! It’s annoying that you have to select it for everyone before you can check out. I have called customer service few times, who would just send me over to IT for the error messages. Then Tech support would just things like, “They are probably sold out, try back later, not sure when they will be restocked!” I don’t understand why Disney would launch this and not be prepared with inventory. I mean the bands are available on their shop Disney site. Our first trip to Disney and I’m quite disappointed already. Thousands of dollars spent and can’t even upgrade wristbands for my kids. 🙁

What a mess! I was able to log in this morning to take a screenshot for my wife of the options available. When I logged back in a couple of hours later to make the purchase, it gives me the stupid error message with an image of a panicked Donald:
“Access Unavailable. You do not have permission to access this page. Sorry, but access to the page you requested is unavailable. It may have been moved or deleted, or the URL may contain errors. Please check your spelling.”
Seriously? What kind of glitch is that? I’m going to try again tomorrow morning. Hopefully, they still have the one I want in stock. I had several issues last week (same problem!), and when it finally let me in, I had to settle on a less popular option. Good luck, folks!

I’ve been checking regularly to see if they added new styles… I found one for my daughter that she liked so I ordered it and after several glitches it finally went through (the one I picked for myself kept erroring). But now that I’ve done that, the option to “edit,” the other free bands has disappeared and the screen showing my magic band order looks different. Anyone else had this experience?

This does not seem to work if you are in the UK to be able to order for pick up on check in. Feel Disney should sort this out as the UK is a large portion of their visitors!

I understand when something new gets rolled out, there will be glitches. But here we are nearly 7 weeks later and it is still a game of Russian Roulette. I either cannot see the magic bands I want, or can see the one I want, but not the one my husband wants. Or, for some real fun- I can see both and add them to my cart, but then get an error message when trying to go to the cart to pay for them. I have been trying non-stop all day, on top of the off and on for weeks, with no luck. There is absolutely nothing Disney-like about this experience or set-up. I am really disappointed in Disney. They are usually so much better at navigating or fixing things than this.

Ordered magic bands and when we got to the checkout both magic bands were in the basket just waiting on payment. We payed for them and then when the page showed us our order one of the bands had been cancelled during payment. Now when that band comes back in stock we are unable to select it as an option

Ever since the Disney family let a board of directors take over, there’s little magic left about it. From hotel decor becoming basic instead of whimsical, to bad customer service… & did anyone else see the family punching each other for 5 minutes before security showed up to do NOTHING? not to mention belligerent drunks in every park. Disney is not the Happiest magical place on Earth anymore, it’s a cash cow for a bunch of old business men who care more about their bottom dollar than the dream Disney created… They’ll eventually milk that cow dry though, more often than not I see negative reviews about Disney and the cost is so high now that the only people who can afford to go to Disney can afford to vacation elsewhere after their bad experience.

I have been trying to order the Haunted Mansion one whenever it pops up on the screen as ‘there’ but it always gives me an error saying the page is ‘Unable to Complete the Request’ and to choose a different band. If I wanted one of the other bands I wouldn’t be trying so hard for this one…. it’s terrible frustrating.

Been trying FOR DAYS to get the Magic Bands my mom and I want! One of the following happen: 1. I choose the band but it says something went wrong when I try to add it or 2. It lets me add the band but says something went wrong when I try to checkout. Emailed Disney about it and was just told to keep trying as they sell out quickly. It’s horrible! Luckily our trip isn’t until December so we have time, but I’m thinking about getting one of the free ones and buying an upgraded one in the park. I feel like the real magic in the Magic Bands is getting the one you want on MDE!

Been trying endlessly for the last few weeks. As everyone else has said either the bands we want aren’t there or – even worse – they both are and either give an error message when selecting one of them of – the absolutely worst – it lets you select them both then gives you the error message when trying to checkout.
For a company the size of Disney it is absolutely shocking.
Tempted to just wait and buy one in the park at the normal price. I’m not too bothered about the $15 saving, it’s more the principle of it.
If you try to order them from ShopDisney at full price they’re readily available. How does that work?!

This whole theme Magic Band selection is very disappointing. I was told that if you’re one of the lucky ones who are able to have your choice of band available and can snag it, putting it in your cart (having it show up as your choice next to the profile picture) doesn’t guarantee you getting the band. It merely puts it in your cart. So if there’s a person who grabs the same style band and actually PAYS for it, that’s supposed to guarantee your band. Putting it in your cart doesn’t hold it for you. And I was also told that you have to select EVERYONE in your party’s bands all at once. If you only find one or two bands your party wants, you can’t what until all the bands you want are available…you can’t find one persons’ band, pay for that one go back later to look for the band the other people want…you have to get everyone’s right then. Once you purchase one band, it closes out your party’s order and it can’t be open back up to add in any more bands, so keep that in mind!
