“Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live!” is BACK for the summer at Epcot!
From today until August 18th, Guardians Star-Lord and Gamora and their alien band will be performing hits from Awesome Mix Volumes 1 & 2 five times a day in the American Gardens Theatre.
Songs include “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Come and Get Your Love,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and “I Want You Back.”
A certain someone also makes an appearance…
And for a quick bite to eat before or after the show in The American Adventure Pavilion, both Liberty Inn and Fife & Drum Tavern are serving up themed eats throughout the show’s run!
In Liberty Inn, you’ll find the Space Sandwich, the Awesome Mix Plate (ha!), and Cosmic Cake. [Editor’s Update: Note that Liberty Inn will close on July 8th to make way for a new restaurant coming to The American Adventure Pavilion, so we are not certain if these three snacks will be available after that date, though the offerings at Fife & Drum Tavern should still be available.]
Note that Rocket Fuel is the themed drink here — it’s a frozen Coca-Cola Slushy with grenadine.
The Space Sandwich ($10.99) is barbecue pulled pork topped with crispy onions and served on a Kaiser bun with french fries on the side.
The kaiser is toasted to offer a bit of crunch, and obviously the colors present a unique appearance! Anyone else think it’s a little moldy looking?
If you can get past the appearance, though, the sandwich itself is pretty basic. The pork — while there is lots of it — isn’t overly flavorful, and you can find better pork dishes out there.
For instance…
The Awesome Mix Plate ($11.99) is a pile of french fries topped with barbecue pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, bacon, and lettuce. It’s a huge dish and easily sharable.
And because the other elements lend this dish loads more flavor overall, this would be what we would order over the sandwich.
Cosmic Cake ($4.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) is a dome of chocolate cake covered in more chocolate. And we’re giving you two warnings with this one.
One, that chocolate cover melts quickly; and two, the black paint on the space topper is tough to get off your hands.
That said, the cake itself is filled with vanilla buttercream and “space sprinkles,” and it’s tasty altogether, with a good cake-to-buttercream ratio.
Just steps away outside at Fife & Drum Tavern, you’ll find a selection of specialty beverages.
The Awesome Mix Slushy ($8.25) is a frozen blue raspberry, strawberry, and lemonade slushy served with a glow cube (which, granted, you can’t really appreciate in the bright light of day, but it’s in there!).
It’s super yummy and refreshing on a hot day, even though the colors themselves blend together in about 5 seconds.
The I am Root float is a classic Root Beer Float topped with whipped cream and mint leaves (which you can also have spiked with Stoli Vanil Vodka). And the Destroyer Punch is orange, pineapple, and lime juices and grenadine, which can be turned into Galaxy Juice for guests 21-and-over with the addition of cherry bourbon.
This is also where you can grab a Mix Tart ($5.00 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit)! This strawberry-filled shortbread cookie is topped with a fondant Awesome Mix Tape.
It’s a terrific photo touch, but the tart itself tastes much better without the fondant.
It did lack the buttery flavor we expect from shortbread, though. Overall, it’s just okay.
We can’t say we were really blown away by the eats for Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live! The flavors, unfortunately, don’t impress as much as the appearance for the most part. We do give thumbs up to the Awesome Mix Plate (the loaded fries) and the Awesome Mix Slushy. (And, in fact, since your other drink options are variations on fruity drinks and root beer floats, you probably can’t go wrong with any of those.) So, we say grab an “Awesome Mix” one or the other to go with your “Awesome Mix Live!” show and have some summer fun, Guardians fans!

Awesome mix plate advertised on the Liberty Inn sign has the word lettuce misspelled

That bun definitely looks like it’s moldy. Not a very visually appealing sight. I would think a food expert there would catch that stuff.

My 11 year old was SO excited about trying these for lunch during our trip next week! We’re bummed Liberty Inn will be closed before we get there. Any ideas if they may move those offerings to another spot? I’m hoping they’ll keep the snacks at Fife&Drum but he was really hoping to try all of them. He’s a huge Marvel fan.

Nicole, we don’t know! We’re on the lookout and will update if they do move.
