In case you missed it, Disney Springs’ Flavors of Florida food event is underway! From now through September 2, this event is bringing a variety of Florida-inspired dishes to 20 dining locations throughout Disney Springs. Today, we HAD to try a fun new option from Morimoto Asia — the GATOR TAIL WAFFLE CONE!
This thing is all kinds of awesome. It’s a play on chicken and waffles with a Florida (gator) twist!
So, yes, this IS real gator, and if that freaks you out a little bit, we understand. BUT, hear us out, ’cause this really may be worth your time and money if you’re an orange chicken fan! And also note that while you can find them in the restaurant proper, you DON’T need a reservation. You can get yours at the bar. As of June 28, you can also order it at Morimoto Asia Street Food!
A strong citrus taste came through from the gator, so orange flavor fans ONLY on this one. The gator is breaded and marinated in the same way as Morimoto’s orange chicken, so it tastes very similar.
And this one’s not rubbery at all, as you may have previously experienced from gator meat dishes. The chef actually marinates the gator tail in saki to give it a tender consistency! We’d say give it a sample…it might be your new favorite!
You’ll find the Gator Tail Waffle Cone at Morimoto Asia for $15.98, including tax. Each dish includes two cones, so it’s totally shareable! It’s important to note that it is not listed on the menu but only on the pop-up at the hostess stand. To try one of these cones for yourself, be sure to ask for it between now and September 2! Don’t forget to order at the bar to avoid lines for a table.
