The FastPass+ tiers at Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Epcot can have a big effect on your overall Disney World Park strategy. While Magic Kingdom doesn’t have tiers, we can only reserve an advance FastPass+ for one top attraction at the other three parks, meaning you’ve gotta plan pretty carefully if you want to hit all of those E-ticket rides.
And now your FastPass+ strategy may be about to change even more at Hollywood Studios.
According to Touring Plans, a large number of Hollywood Studios’ rides will move to Tier 1 when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on August 29. Touring Plan’s information is based on options available for a 90-day FastPass+ booking window (a Club Level perk). The booking indicated Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster AND Tower of Terror will join all three Toy Story Land attractions in Tier 1.
What does this mean for you if this change is confirmed? Well, it means you’ll only get to make an advance FastPass+ reservation for one of the attractions listed above. You’ll be able to use your other two reservations for Tier 2 attractions such as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, or Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

Mel says
That would be absolutely ridiculous! I pray that doesn’t happen. I think it’s time to remove tiers. Make them all the same like Magic Kingdom so we can actually get on the rides we want to.
Lori says
Totally agree with you, Mel. Ridiculous! Some of the newer changes plus price increases are making WDW less “user friendly”.
Lori Rienhardt says
Another slap in the face to park goers from a Disney execs. They continue to push the boundaries of what people will take I think they are trying to see how far they actually can push us before we stop going. Nice job Igar. I can’t wait til you are gone
Elizabeth Smock says
We ALL need to email Disney and tell them this is a horrible idea. TWO FPs for only 4 attractions, 2 of which are huge shows that nearly never need an FP? [email protected] PLEASE! The more of us who email and POLITELY express our concerns and disappointment, the more likely it is they will stop this nonsense
Mark says
Wonderful. We’ll finally be able to get fastpasses for Slinky Dog Dash.
Shirley says
Can someone explain the 90 day
“Club level perk”. Is that DVC? I thought it was 60 days.
Chuck Doubet says
Any time prices or restrictions are placed on the consumer, the consumer isn’t happy. After recent price hikes at the parks (the goose that lays the golden egg for Disney) it may be enough for investors to liquidate or become more cautious at current stock values. That may have a bigger input to Disney and future announcements. Time is very important currently at the parks this will even put more stress on attendants in being able to have enough time to enjoy all of the Disney parks.
Risa Spinks says
This is the worst park to do this to. If you took all those out, I couldn’t even get my daily 3 FP from HS because there is nothing outside of those I’d want to pick besides Star Tours – even then, that’s usually a “well I guess we’ll ride that since we need to fill our FP”.
Kathy says
Do you really think our opinions matter to Disney. If you don’t have a dollar sign it doesn’t matter. But in all honesty it’s a bunch of crap!
Barry says
Horrible IDEA!!!!…leave well enough ALONE..Makes no sense !!!
Kelly O'Rourke says
Oh come on. Hardly worth admission to get one good ride on FP. Tier two is lame – Indiana and Mermaid are shows, not rides you want to do every time you’re there. Hey Disney – are you actually trying to make us stop coming?!!
Kat says
If they would go to a booking 1 FP in advance system, at least at Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom, they could get rid of tiers and there would be much more availability for day of FPs. You should be able to book one in advance and then you would be able to book your next FP either 1 1/2 hours after park opens or after you use the first one whichever happens first. Hollywood Studios simply does not have enough rides/attractions to warrant 3 FP in advance for everyone. It gums up the system, makes it more difficult to get day of FPs, and creates longer standby lines. The old pulling one FP at a time system never created the types of issues we now have of getting on tier 1 rides without huge waits like we deal with now at WDW. Before FP+ we never had trouble getting FPs for both Test Track and Soarin at EPCOT at some point in the day even though they were the only 2 headliner rides in the park. Likewise we never had trouble getting FPs for both Toy Story Mania and Rock n Roller Coaster at some point the same day before FP+. Now it is almost impossible even though more rides have been added. It makes WDW trips so much more stressful.
Nicole says
That’s dumb! Why wouldn’t attractions like ToT or RR move to their two? They won’t be as busy with two new lands to compete with.
Barry says
This will put so much STRESS on visitors winding up JUST having a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!
Kimberly Blauch says
We DVC members don’t get as many perks like Club Level perk- I think that is if you pay A LOT for concierge club level room at the resorts you may get more fast passes? DVC doesn’t get much of anything other than our expensive monthly maintenance fee that goes up every year! Would not recommend buying. We don’t have dining package / room deals and bookings for rooms is very tough! Nothing available for late Fall- or month of December!! Been looking since May!
DFB Sarah says
Shirley, Disney offers an optional Fastpass program to Club Level guests (anyone — not just DVC) that includes being able to select Fastpass+ 90 days in advance of a trip rather than 60. It was piloted, so I’m not sure if it’s a permanent feature or still being tested.
Robert Thomson says
I understand the problem that they are trying to solve, and that is fast passes filling before the 30 day booking window.
Currently, slinky dog isn’t even available 60 days out in my experience booking for multiple trips. Toy story fills soon after, followed by saucers. So the limited number of “A” fast passes means that people booking at the 30 day mark wouldn’t have any “A” options at all, which I’m sure results in a lot of frustrated people.
However, since you get 1 A, and 2 B, the B group comes with it’s own set of problems. The A group had people picking 1 of 3 rides, filling all 3 very quickly. B group becomes and issue because in reality, people are picking 2 of 3 rides (ignoring all the shows) filling those rides as well. This means that you start running into situations where someone selecting fast passes could easily have nothing but shows available when they book 30 days out.
This June was the first trip I saw the following:
1) I didn’t even bother with B passes for most parks some of the time. Having no passes in hopes of being able to get another A pass was worth more than being tied to a B pass.
2) I never picked up a single A pass on site during a 9 day trip. Usually, I find some openings here and there.
The result of these two things were that rain and rope drops end up having as big an impact on my trip as fast passes, and for the first trip ever, we didn’t hit all the rides we had hoped to during a trip.
Randi Briggs says
Interesting – Disney World keeps making changes that make things worse and worse, and Disneyland keeps making changes that make things better and better. Wish WDW would take a hint from Disneyland. I love the Disneyland Maxpass system. It works great and is really fair.
Barbara Johnson says
This system is already in operation before Galaxy Edge opened and it really stinks!!! This is the worst idea ever!! Whoever came up with this idea is crazy!!
I hope they reconsider and change this utterly stupid system real soon because we think it is the most ridiculous fastpass system Disney has keep up with so far!!!
Peter says
Annual pass holder for 15 years. Let me just say, those comparing WDW to WDL are not understanding the complex issues facing both parks. The pass system for WDL and EuroDisney will never work because of volume.
Now, this is a HORRIBLE thing to do. Just horrible. It’s a cheating of the system intended to make you traverse the park more and buy more goods. The tickets aren’t the bread n’ butter, as someone suggested….its Mickey Ears and Magic Bands….and the Movie Studio. So here they just want us walking the park more. F off Disney you’ve made me mad.
