In January of this year, Disney World and Disneyland introduced park-specific reusable shopping bags as part of their many efforts to eliminate single-use plastics. We love that the designs on the bags are specific to the parks where they’re purchased!
But if you love these merchandise bags like we do, we have a bit of not-so-great news to share. The totes we saw in Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Confectionery have all increased in price by a dollar.
When the reusable bags initially debuted, they were $1, $1.50 and $2.00, depending on size. Now, they’re $2.00, $2.50, and $3.00 respectively. That’s a pretty significant price increase in the span of five months! So far, we’ve only seen the new prices in Magic Kingdom, but we assume we’ll see the same price increase in the other parks as well.
This week is certainly a big one for price jumps, as we’ve already seen increased rates for Disney World Annual Passholders AND overnight parking for Disney World resort guests.

I thought these were a great idea and that were going to replace the plastic bags. BUT I was just down there and I hardly saw anyone using these. Also there wasn’t really a need since they still give out just as many of the plastic bags. Any purchase that we made was dumped into plastic and not once was I ever asked if I would like to forgo a plastic bag. I even was carrying a back pack that could have easily stowed some of the rather small items we did purchase. And there were like 4 bags wrapping up the one purchase that I sent to the resort when I got to pick it up. bag after bag wrapping the same stuff 4 fold.and stapled so that it was was never to come out. So these are just another item to purchase, I imagine that if you do purchase one they might put it into a plastic bag for you to carry around. All over Disney 29may to 9 June.

If Disney keeps raising prices, they are going to price themselves out of the market for the normal person.

I agree with Kathie- The average income person is only going to be able to afford to go to Disney once or maybe twice. We used to take our family there a couple of times per year- now we are taking the kids/grandkids and it is going to be well over $15,000 for 5 days. People will think twice about spending that much!!

Another price increase due to GREED!!

This is bad, if Disney are trying to reduce single use plastic why are they increasing the price of the re-useable bags significantly and therefore deterring people from buying? Come on Disney show the world some love!

Things are getting out of hand, we were really miffed at the wilderness lodge recently when we were told we were not allowed to have a bag at all unless we bought one. really??? and now with all these nickel and diming price hikes, Disney your really getting nasty to guests, were just about done.

Pretty sad to see the price increase on some things that really leave us no choice. The bag I bought in February this year was trashed just from normal use, the topnof the bag frayed at the handle connections and it was pretty much useless and went into the landfill once we were home.

Ummm… I dont’ get the outrage. First. Reusable shopping bags average $1-$5 a piece, depending on size and where you get them. Second. People will purchase these as an additional, or in place of a souvenir. When I spotted the initial prices, I was shocked at how cheap they were. With the price increase noted, they are right where I’d expect. And within my shopping budget. Most people spend more than that on their favorite coffee and I know several who do that more than a few times a week. I was searching Amazon for a Disney shopping bag to purchase before going this fall so I had one without the possible expense. Then I stumbled on the several articles about the shopping bags in Disney and in this case, Disney wins on their price and the convenience.

In order for Disney to go “green” they put the burden of buying or providing a shopping bag on their “guest”. If it was truly that important to Disney would they not give “green” bags to buying customers. Or could it be that Disney has cut massive cost by no longer providing bags in the stores and parks and is making a large profit on the bags that are”required” to be bought. I refuse to buy one on the principle of the matter.
