Back in May, Disney announced that Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests would have the option of upgrading their MagicBand with 30 fun options. Our readers expressed a lot of enthusiasm for this discounted pricing on some of their favorite designs!
Essentially, guests staying at a Disney resort from late-May onward could log into My Disney Experience and choose to upgrade their complimentary solid-colored MagicBands to bands with designs featuring beloved characters, attractions, and more. The cost for doing so was about $15 less than guests would pay for the same bands in the parks.
But as is often the case when Disney announces something brand new and super-fun, the upgradable MagicBand options quickly went “out of stock”. See our post about the system’s glitches here!
Now, after weeks of waiting, it appears the upgraded MagicBand option is back — with a few new designs! In My Disney Experience, it’s easy to see the Special Pre-Order Pricing of $10 per band, which is charged at the time of purchase.
As with the initial round of upgraded MagicBands, Annual Passholders will also be presented with this option when renewing or purchasing a pass.
Upgraded MagicBands will still be shipped to guests’ homes in the U.S. if they are ordered 11 or more days before their arrival.
As a reminder, solid-colored complimentary MagicBands are still an option for those who do not wish to upgrade their MagicBand.
But — no shocker here — the system does seem to be a little bit glitchy today, as a few of our team members have been unable to see the new options while others could. So if you’re trying to order your upgraded MagicBands, you may run into some hurdles. We’ll keep an eye on things and update if the MagicBand drama continues! 😉

I tried to order one for my son (Donald) and one for me (Toy Story) and it kept giving me error messages. I finally got to the payment screen and submitted and it timed out and said it couldn’t process my order, but then sent me a confirmation that it went through…. for just my sons. And it defaulted mine back to solid color… and the option went away to edit mine any further. So. Sad.

I wish they would have enough to keep it stocked. I hate they offer this upgrade but between glitches and running out , people who are going to Disney aren’t able to upgrade. I keep checking and either the designs are unavailable or there is a glitch. We’re not going until the end of September so I have time but I really hope they get it together and quickly. My daughter really wants that Captain Marvel band and I really liked the castle band and those have been gone since the beginning of this upgrade

I’m wondering if Premium Magic Band availability depends on when you are traveling to WDW? My room reservations are not until Dec & I can only see the standard solid color bands right now. I hope Premium MBs will be available closer to our travel date.

There are 4 of us traveling this fall and have been trying to get the new magic band upgrade, but they went out of stock. When they restocked, it only showed a few upgrades so only 1 of us saw one we liked. I Ordered the upgrade for the 1 person in our party thinking that when they restocked with ones the rest of us liked I would buy ones for the other 3 in our party. However, when I purchased the one, Disney went ahead and sent all 4 of ours and now it shows we can not upgrade the other 3. We are pretty upset about that. We were all looking forward to the upgrade.

We have been trying for over a week now to upgrade our magic bands we are travelling from the uk on the 15 July and we are having to call Disney every day as our account is resetting itself and we are getting a page with the seven dwarfs on saying the page os being worked on. The magic bands we are choosing are out of stock by the time we get to the check out and we’ve been mislead by two cast members who have told us on incorrect information. I’ve made a complaint about this by email 5 days ago and have not had any response. We’re very disappointed by this whole experience and a bit fed up!

Spoke to a reservations cast member and they said they are working on another restock, they just aren’t sure when the shipment will come. They did not anticipate this service to be as popular as it is, so the past restocks have sold out in minutes, which causes the system error and glitches. With all that, I’m assuming a restock won’t be for possibly a couple months, until Disney get significant stock, which is unfortunate.

We are going to Disney in August and have FINALLY been able to order our upgraded magic bands. I have been trying for weeks to order them and was able to get them yesterday. My advice for those trying to order them, keep trying! I checked the website often and at all hours of the day, even at 3 am! So hang in there. I was able to get all the ones I wanted except for the female villains for my daughter , but ordered her the second choice I had in mind. Good luck!

I have also been checking daily since May and finally got to order 4 yesterday afternoon. In the am they all said sold out but when I checked later it let me order. I got shipping notification this morning already. Keep trying!!

MyDisneyExperience should be changed to MyDismalExperience! I’m unable to see any of the premium magic band options – only the solid colors. Attempted multiple times from my computer and phone app. Disney really needs to get their act together. HUGE annual pass price increases certainly didn’t go towards improving their internet technology.

It’s frustrating because you can choose the band you want but can’t check out. Has anyone had any luck hitting “retry” after getting the message that Disney is unable to complete your request?

Disney has never let me down until now – snagged an upgraded band for my stepson and the system indicated I could “go back” and obtain themed bands for my husband and I at a later time. Nope they immediately shipped out all three bands which we didn’t want. Even though there were significant system glitches plus the fact I didn’t choose them they are ours.

Same thing happened to us!! We have 4 traveling. I was able to finally get 1 band ordered. Was going to order others thinking we could do that. But then they shipped all 4. 3 are the regular free colored ones and 1 an upgrade. I was pretty bummed.

Don’t worry! They will open it up for you soon. The same thing happened to me. After they shipped us the bands, they re-opened the MagicBand selection for the band I was having issues with.
I finally got all 4 in my cart (regular for me & hubs, and upgrades for our boys) and was checking out. I hit “pay” and my total was an appropriate amount for 2 upgraded bands. However a few minutes later I got a confirmation email for 1 upgrade. I called and spoke to a few people who said someone would get back with me. No one did, and I was very surprised to get 4 MBs in the mail a few days later, to include a plain band for my son. I logged on my account and saw that he was opened back up for MB selection. I was very happy. And after a few more days of endless checking for the elusive Haunted Mansion band, I finally snagged it!!
In the end, I’m very pleased that I was able to get the bands I wanted, even if it was a big pain in the butt.

It took a while and s lot of checking at the Disney site but this morning I was able to order the small world band to surprise my wife. Cost $15 while most others are $10 if you are staying at a Disney hotel but this will make my wife’s trip. Don’t give up on getting that special magic band.

Trying so many times a day – Did get a big Hero 6 band but nothing else in stock – decided to just take it while we could – will keep trying for Toy Story band on another reservation but yes, very complex to get something as simple as a magic band which appears but you can’t order it.

This is ridiculous. Band becomes available but you can’t add it to your cart, and when you can, you can’t check out. Who is running this circus?! Absolutely ridiculous. Let everyone checkout, even when it is sold out, and run a backorder list. If stock doesn’t become available in time for trip, just send an email letting customer know to reselect different band. It doesn’t take a genious to make this process less frustrating. Get with it Disney.

We have been trying since they became available for 4 bands but the ones we want are never available at the same time. Don’t understand why they don’t let you order 1 at a time when it becomes available. To have to order your whole group at 1 time has been impossible. Very disappointing.

I finally gave up and decided to just buy decals on Etsy . It cost half of what we would’ve spent on custom bands. Still disappointed that I couldn’t get the upgrade but it was becoming too annoying .

It lets you choose a band, then when you confirm, it tells you it is out of stock. If it is out of stock, why are they showing the band. Really crappy system.

Choosing a Magic Band for an upcoming Disney trip, is supposed to be fun. But in fact it’s starting to get on my nerves… Why do they put upgrades on dislplay that are ALL out of stock?

I’ve heard that if you book a Disney package, they will also send souvenir luggage tags (not the yellow flight tags) to “match” your magic bands. Does anyone know if this is limited to the solid color magic bands or is this also available for the upgraded designed bands? And, if they know what the souvenir tags look like for those upgraded bands.
