is the Polynesian Village Resort’s sushi bar — but colorful preparations of fish aren’t the only thing this spot purveys. Indeed, the Kona Island Sushi Bar is a coffee bar for most of the day, and what’s coffee without some sweet treats to go with?
We just shared Walt Disney World’s latest treatment of bacon with not one, not two, but three chocolate-covered bacon varieties. Read about the madness here.
And now we’ve got a look at the Polynesian’s version of an Italian Florentine. A classic Florentine is a relatively flat cookie comprised of a combination of nuts, dried fruits, and chocolate. Kona Island’s version… well, it’s more Mount Florentine than classic.
The Chocolate Florentine, as it’s called here, includes several varieties of nuts: sliced almonds, whole almonds, walnuts, and cinnamon-sugar (almond and/or pecan at Walt Disney World). We also spied a few different dried fruits, including cranberries, apricots, and cherries.
As is traditional, chocolate and sugar are used to fuse the ingredients together. And we gotta be honest: it’s good! Imagine if sweet trail mix melted into a clump and then miraculously came out in one compact, not melty mound. That’s this Chocolate Florentine.
In fact, we imagine this is tasty with a cup of coffee. But while it could be a great on-the-go bite to eat en route to the Monorail, that chocolate doesn’t stand a chance in the Florida heat, so gobble this up in the relaxing Poly lobby before you head out into the big, steamy World.

Is it gluten free?? I cant tell from the picture. It looks like chocolate and fruits and nuts. Is there any actual cookie in there, made with flour? Looks fantastic and my kind of treat!
DFB Sarah says
Bellamouse, it does not, at least upon first glance, seem to have flour in it. The nuts and fruits are held together with sugar and chocolate. But you’d want to confirm with the cast members at Kona Island, who should have a binder with allergen information.

Thank you Sarah! I’m sure there isn’t any flour otherwise. I just couldn’t tell if there was broken up “cookie” in there – one of the pictures kinda looks like there could be. Can’t wait to get over there and try it!!
