My daughter and I almost died when they closed the Great Movie Ride. We even got “That’s A Wrap” tee shirts.
And we ALWAYS had breakfast at Starring Rolls. Not to mention, replacing Starring Rolls with a Starbucks was the ultimate insult to WDW aficionados. We also used to love the Fountain in Epcot, before they got rid of the latte, cappuccino and espresso. Sadly, its a Starbucks now, too. AND we were so hoping they would move the Osborne lights to the place where the Epcot Christmas lights used to be, or even a scaled down version on Grant Avenue. But, were still going back for four days next week, so I guess I must not be too broken-hearted; although its extremely unlikely I will step inside a Starbucks!

Hi DFB gang! Thanks for all the great blogs! AJ, I have to agree with almost 100% of your choices. I believe we’re around the same age, so here’s some additions that I’m sure you’ll remember, like the beautiful centerpiece that was the lobby of The Polynesian. I remember the live birds in there back in the 80’s. I miss the original Mickey bar, with its chocolate ice cream and choc covered ears, with Mickey smiling on his vanilla face. Who doesn’t love a tasty sandwich they can hold in one hand aka the handwich? I only saw pics of the poop candy. It was gone by the time I went to AK. I found it gross, but intriguing, and was definitely going to buy some of each, darn! As for the plastic cheese, I so miss my meal of corn dog nuggets, and chili cheese fries, at Casey’s Corner. My sisters and I would make our own, by purchasing fries, a cup of chili, and then loading on the free cheese and chopped onions-to die for! While I’ll never quite understand some of Disney’s choices, change can be good. I’ve come to really love, and thoroughly enjoy Disney Springs. I loathed it when it was first coming to be-lol! I’m not quite sure about all the change coming to Epcot. It’s been pretty much the same my entire life. The sense of familiarity is comforting. That being said, I’m sure it will be stupendous, and I’ll come to appreciate the change. Pretty much everything has to evolve at one point or another, right? Thanks again, and keep up the awesome work!

Really miss Osborne lights. It was the best

I miss coming back to our room every day to see what new washcloth animal housekeeping had made! (We still have my personal favorite, a peacock complete with multiple colored stickers decorating it’s tail) I also miss the Wonders of Life pavilion, we could spend an entire day in there, the Innovations East and West when they were packed with activities and the original Journey into Imagination with Dreamfinder and Figment. Those made Epcot my son’s favorite park from the time he was little.
I agree with David about the Fountainview at Epcot, espressos and pastries at one of the outdoor tables while watching the Fountain was a staple of every trip. Haven’t bothered going in since it first became Edy’s ice cream and then Starbucks.
And I enjoyed shopping so much more when the gift shops carried varied and unique merchandise at each location Now it’s pretty much the same stuff everywhere.
The list could go on and on.
But we love many of the newer additions like Expedition Everest, Toy Story Land, New Fantasyland and Disney Springs.

I really miss the bakery on Main Street that was replaced with a Starbucks. We used to always stop there in the morning for coffee and a giant cinnamon roll and we would sit and eat at a table in their seating area. And yes, of course, Mr. Toad, Great Movie Ride, and the Osborne lights! Great point about how Disney should start creating more of their own narratives for their rides and not rely so much on movies all the time.

I can never forget staking out a spot at the end of Main Street on the 2nd floor of the Train Station to get a prime video spot to get the Main Street Electrical Parade. It made my heart face. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING compared to being on the new York Street when the Osborne Lights were turned on at night. I video taped it but the power of those lights coming on can not be matched. I feel the same way about Illumniations. I actually have video of Laserphonic Fantasy from late September of 1987 which was the predecessor of Illuminations. It was more sound based than explosive and was gentler. Illuminations was special and will certainly be missed. I suppose we will get attached to the new shows but will never forget the old ones
