Happy Halloween (in August)!
When the end of summer hits and fall begins, we’re always more than ready to visit Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. We hope you’re ready for a spooky post because we went to the first party of the year (still in a candy daze tbh), and we’re ready to tell you allll about this year’s entertainment offerings!
We’ve seen plenty of delicious treats being featured at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and even some spine-chilling merch… But, now we have the deets on the spooktacular new fireworks, dance parties, parade floats, ride overlays, and MORE causing some toil and trouble over in Magic Kingdom.
NEW Floats In The Boo-to-You Parade!
The Boo-to-You Parade is one of our favorite parts of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! We love watching the floats and characters (looking at you and your spark-filled shovel choreo, Grave Diggers) travel down Main Street U.S.A dressed in their spooky finery.
Although the parade begins at 9:15 and 11:15, we recommend that you find your spots at least 30 minutes beforehand. As always, the Headless Horseman starts off the parade with a terrifying ride through the route.
After the horseman, the real spooks and ghouls start to come out!
Mickey Mouse dressed in his vampire costume is one of the first character to greet guests during the parade. Look at that smile (and those pearly fangs)!
And, all your favorite friends are back this year in their costumes!
We’ve had to beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts, Grave Diggers, and Haunted Mansion Ballroom Dancers for a while now! But this year, you’ll also need to beware of the Spectral Bride who glides down Main Street U.S.A. along with the Haunted Mansion Ballroom Dancers. She lights up and is super cool…but SUPER hard to get a shot of in this light! If you want to photograph her, we recommend heading to a better lit area than we were in obvi.
But that’s not all that’s new to Boo-To-You this year! There’s also a new Tomorrowland parade unit! That’s right, The Incredibles have joined the party!
Edna Mode would be happy to see that there are no capes on these supers! (By the way — peep Edna walking behind!)
Buzz Lightyear and the Aliens from Toy Story are additions to the parade as well.
We’re eternally grateful to see these little guys!
You’ll also spot fan-favorite, Wreck-it-Ralph! We think that he’s just a teensy bit too big for the Sugar Rush Delivery Car.
Au revoir, Admiral Underpants! We’re on our way to the rides!!
Attraction Overlays
Okay, so attraction overlays are pretty normal for the parties Disney offers… BUT there are some new scares on display for this year’s Halloween party!
For the first time, the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor pals interact with party guests as they learn about the Human World holiday known as Halloween.
Guests receive candy at the beginning and end of the show, and you have the ability to come and go as you please.
That guy on the screen is buying churros for everybody!! (We’ll take 13.) And this one is fun and cute — especially for the kiddos. Plus treats at the beginning and the end — #worthitfortheAC.
In Liberty Square, you’ll have a chance once again to see the fabulous Madame Renata or her sister Carlotta as they continue to haunt the front yard of the Haunted Mansion.
They’re kinda like the ghost version of Anastasia and Drizella, if you ask us! FYI, they don’t really do meet and greets, but they will entertain you while you wait in line at Haunted Mansion!
In Adventureland, the live pirates have made a triumphant return to Pirates of the Caribbean! Located in the queue and the ride, these pirates are on a mission!
This pirate told us that we could do a deal — we do all the work and he gets all the treasure. Um…sorry pegleg!
Space Mountain is pitch black again this year. While you twist and turn through the darkness you can jam out to a new “high-energy soundtrack.”
The only thing seriously scary about Space Mountain at the Halloween party was that the queue was pretty long for most of the night. So, if you want blast off into the stars, you’ll need to ride this attraction first thing when you get to the event.
In Fantasyland, you can spin into madness on the Mad Tea Party as special lighting and music are back again this year.
We have to say that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser, especially with…
Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Fireworks
The new show, Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, is hosted by Jack Skellington himself! Unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, Jack is a life-size puppet that realistically walks, talks, and scares like the Pumpkin King. At 10:15, our journey begins with a rendition of “This Is Halloween” before Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy sing a trick-or-treat song.
An array of projections transform Cinderella Castle throughout the show with bursts of orange, red, yellow, and pink fireworks in the sky.
The Halloween story continues as our beloved characters come across Jack Skellington’s ghost-dog Zero…
… A haunted house full of skeletons…
… A montage of Disney villains, and more.
While the new show’s story wasn’t pieced together very well, the amount of fireworks (and the appearance of Jack) made our jaws drop with eerie excitement.
Make sure to snag a good view of the castle early for the Not-So-Spooky Spectacular! You’ll definitely want to see as much as possible, and now that the Halloween show actually relies on those projections (with HalloWishes, it didn’t really matter that much if you could see the castle itself), a castle view will be a benefit.
Dance Parties
Two dance parties take place in Tomorrowland! You’ll find the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball at Rockettower Plaza Stage…
… With friends like Boo, Mike, and Sulley doing their best Monster Mash!
You can also check out the Disney Junior Dance Party at Storybook Circus in Fantasyland to groove with characters like…
… Fancy Nancy (she’ll teach you how to do a pirouette)…
… Doc McStuffins…
… And Vampirina!
If you’re near Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, be sure to stop by the DescenDANCE Party!
While we’ve seen this party at Disney Springs, it’s now at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party so guests can get down and be rotten to the core.
Learn more about the DescenDANCE Party here!
Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
The Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular has returned once again to the Castle stage at 8:30, 10:45, and midnight to make your night run amuck, amuck, amuck!
Join Winifred, Sarah, and Mary as they try to gather ingredients for their spell with the help of villains like Oogie Boogie. We wonder if Thackery Binx still has their Spellbook…
You can even purchase a new spirit jersey to represent the Sanderson Sisters with pride!
You’ll look younger by the morning in this spelltacular shirt!
Character Meet-and-Greets
You can meet a variety of characters throughout Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Check the full brochure for all the character meet and greet locations! Who’s your favorite character to visit?
During the first party, we happened to spot the Seven Dwarfs (they NEVER meet together except at special events, so this is a LONG line)…
… Alice and the Mad Hatter…
… Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, and the Queen of Hearts…
…and Tarzan and Jane!
Lines to meet characters sometimes can get pretty long, so be sure to plan out who you’ll see ahead of time and hop into line as quickly as possible!
