If you’re planning to fly out for a vacation at Walt Disney World in the next few days, you may want to think again.
Just like Disney is taking precautions with park and resort cancellations, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is following suit to ensure the safety of passengers.
Starting Monday at 2 AM, Orlando International Airport will be closed until further notice.
Since Hurricane Dorian has now slowed and is becoming stronger (according hurricane hunters and models), it has developed into a Category 4 hurricane. Due to potentially dangerous conditions into and out of Florida, flights are being canceled, and the airport is planning to close ahead of the storm making landfall. Airport officials have advised passengers with booked flights to check with airlines for more information.
So if you’re planning to visit Disney World for the opening of Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this weekend, it may get messy, and you’ll want to plan carefully.
Stay safe, everybody!!

Oh no! I’m horrible about keeping up with the weather. We were planning on flying to Orlando on Friday, September 6th (next week). Do you think it will be all clear by then?

I’m supposed to go on my first WDW trip ever next Saturday (9/7). I’m hoping everything is settled by the time I’m supposed to fly down I’ve never done a big trip so I don’t know how to deal with cancellations. 😭

Jake, when Irma hit in 2017, MCO closed for about 2.5 day, I believe. A lot will depend on the timing and track of the current storm. Check your weather frequently!

We had anniversary plans from 9/2 – 9/6. Southwest told us once MCO announces they will close, it’s not easy to reopen it quickly if the weather changes course. Luckily, we were able to change most of our reservations to the first week in October. Not to the resort we originally had booked, but we still got a reservation. We wanted to have a special anniversary dinner at Victoria and Alberts, and we had a hard time finding an alternate date, but we did!

Coming in on the 7th from Pa. Hope it turns away from Florida but still worried we will not be able fly down 🤞😣

Just curious- what does someone do in a situation like this? Does the airline try to get you a flight to a close airport (well, as close as they can get without running into the bad weather)? Or are you just out of luck and out of the money you spent on the trip?
