Remember when we told you that automated PhotoPass cameras are now in use at Mickey and Minnie’s meet-and-greet in Magic Kingdom?
Well, based on what we saw in Epcot today, it looks like those cameras may be on their way to other meet-and-greets around the Disney World theme parks.
During our visit to Epcot, we noticed a themed camera box and what appears to be a PhotoPass kiosk in the Norway Pavilion’s Royal Sommerhus. In case you didn’t know, this is where guests can meet Anna and Elsa from Frozen.Â
Now, these were not in use yet, but they very well may be used in the future. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more updates regarding potential PhotoPass changes!

These really do not work!

This is horrible news, in my opinion. The few photos I have seen taken by these boxes are just awful- in no way up to the standards we have come to expect (and pay dearly for, mind you) from Disney.
A click box can’t replace a human photographer, no matter how much your shareholders tell you it can save.
I am strongly opposed to the direction this is headed. If we are all going to have to take pics on our phones anyway, I guess the good news is that we won’t bother to pay for Memory Maker.
Disappointed 😞
Beth says
We got memory maker for our trip next year so real photographers can capture all the awesome memories. Not so some crummy automated photo box.
Kelly says
I dislike these so much. Makes me sad
Randi says
I really, truly HATE that these photo boxes are becoming more prominent. They don’t take good pictures, you lose out on a lot of the magic, and frankly, they’re an eyesore!
Disney, listen to your guests! Everybody thinks these are a change for the worse- get rid of them!!!
Anthony says
What a cheap and bone headed move. Part of Disney’s appeal is interacting with the wonderful cast members, not a box.
Phyllis says
If we all boycott the Memory Maker, maybe they will bring back real photographers.
It is not worth the money to me to not have the personal touch of a human being.
M. Thompson says
The automated photo boxes do not even COMPARE to and actual photopass photographer! We have experienced both and in NO WAY EVER will the automated come close to capturing the magic like an actual person! This is a very bad move on Disney’s part, in my opinion!!
Kim says
I am so disappointed. My husband and I always purchase the photopass/memory maker option before we even leave for vacation, because we have always loved the photos taken by the Disney photographers. A machine can not replace a talented photographer. Some things just cannot be automated. I hope this is just a test run, and not a sign of what’s to come.
Carissa says
Agreed. Loved the Memory Maker cast members when we were there last. Really hoping they do away with these boxes.
Tricia says
This is a disturbing trend on Disney’s part and if it becomes widespread will basically make the value of Memory Maker $0. Hopefully this is just a test and they discover early on that the savings in photographers’ wages will not offset the lost revenue from Photopass and Memorymaker purchases if people stop purchasing. I certainly wouldn’t bother spending money for an automated photo and it certainly would devalue the Memorymaker Annual Pass perk.
Michelle says
I hope they don’t think this is an easier way to capture memories. I disagree and I am not against having them around for a quick picture but to have them in lieu of real people is NOT a good idea. Are they planning on lowering the cost of Memory maker? They already took away the option to add your own boarders and they put them on automatically. They don’t always work.
Faith says
This is not a professional idea! We bought for this year but if they don’t turn out excellent 🙄we won’t buy again! Really inhuman idea! Machines are taking over people’s jobs and life anymore! Boo Hiss Boo!
Carmine says
I really dont think this is a great idea, no way its going to capture magical moments like a human photographer. With a young child the photographer has helped my daughter focus on the camera and take a great picture. Maybe put them where there are no photographers now…
Mark says
When we visited In 2017 my grandaughter wore an Elsa baseball cap. Elsa took the hat and signed the peak as well as a very personal and lovely message on the side. She spent over 5 minutes with both our grandchildren and the whole time the photographer circled them snapping away. Over 40 pictures from loads on angles were available on photo pass. That interaction, quality and quantity would never ever be achieved with a box on a wall. While ever Disney decrease the levels of interaction while increasing prices their rating will go only one way. DOWN!
