We had the opportunity to check out The Wonderful World of Wine experience at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club.
The Wonderful World of Wine experience gives guests the opportunity to “sample the liquid legacies of some of the finest appellations and vineyards throughout California, Italy, France, Chile, Australia and more—and learn about their flavor profiles, winemaking techniques, and soil and climate conditions.”
The idea for the Wonderful World of Wine came from Walt’s World of Color. Kris Soto, the proprietor, and sommelier at Yachtsman decided to put his love for wine and Disney movies together to create this unique opportunity.
He will take a famous Disney film or slogan and create a wine pairing that goes along with it! Our theme was “Never Had a Wine Like Me,” which plays off of “Friend Like Me” from Disney’s Aladdin.
We had such a great time at this experience and felt so welcomed by everyone we met, that we couldn’t help but share!
Kris Soto kicked the afternoon off with a very warm introduction. He welcomed us to the event and began talking about his passion for wine. You can see the passion as he spoke about each wine! This really made it fun for everyone, because he not only loves wine, but he’s very knowledgable too.
Those attending Wonderful World of Wines will get a small tasting plate with their selected wine offerings. We tried a Melon de Bourgogne, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Cabernet Franc, and a Mal-Bec.
As we sipped on the wines and tried our food pairings, Kris used the opportunity to speak with and quiz guests. We would guess where the wine came from or what type of grape it was made out of.
After guessing, Kris would share his knowledge by telling us more about the wines including what country and region they came from.
But the wine and Kris weren’t the only stars of the show because we thought that our tasting plate was INCREDIBLE. Ours was like a charcuterie board filled with different meats and cheese.
And, fun fact, each one of the charcuterie meats were house-made! We LOVED the Duck Bacon. It had very deep earthy tones and tasted VERY fresh.
The Pistachio Pate was incredible and had the best texture and taste we’ve ever had in a pate! We’re not kidding…it was THAT good. And we know good pate! The Chorizo Sausage was also good — spicy and full of flavor.
Both the food and the wine are outstanding, but we really feel like Kris Soto is what makes this such a worthwhile experience. We really think that this is a great way to spend the afternoon relaxing with a friend, a great date idea, or a fun way to treat yo self.
The Wonderful World of Wine is $45 per guest and takes place at Yachtsman Steakhouse at 3:00 PM on the second Wednesday of each month. Interested guests (21 and over) may call (407) WDW-DINE to book their very own Wonderful World of Wine experience.
