Each year, runDisney hosts events in which guests from all over the world participate.
However, at this year’s Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, tragedy has struck.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the unfortunate death of an unidentified runner occurred after he/ she collapsed during the Disney Fall Feast 5k.
The race on Friday morning was open to ages 5 and older specified by the Disney website, and was plotted for 3.1 miles around the Walt Disney World property. Although the weekend continued with a 10K on Saturday and 15,000 guests participating in the half marathon on Sunday, Disney does have protocols when tragic incidents like this happen.
Andrea Finger, a spokeswoman for the Walt Disney World Resort, stated that “We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the runner’s family and loved ones throughout this difficult time.”
Unfortunately, a similar situation took place in the Wine & Dine Half Marathon in 2017, when another runner collapsed and died during the event.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the runner at this time.
