I. DID. NOT. KNOW. THIS. HAPPENED.
But I’m for sure gonna tell YOU about it!
While Disney World might be the Most Magical Place on Earth, it isn’t necessarily exempt from unexpected weather-related problems!
Sometimes even the most well-planned Disney events experience a few set-backs from Florida weather.
But BEFORE you complain about the rainy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party you experienced…READ THIS FIRST.
This week one of our reporters visited Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. She had a great time, but did note that it was exceedingly rainy. Bummer, right?
But, the night took a pleasant turn when she was given a “rain check” voucher to use as she leaving rainy Magic Kingdom.
In case you’ve never been to a party that’s been rained out before (hopefully), this voucher basically states that your Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party hard ticket would automatically be changed into a 1-Day Disney Park Ticket! Just because the rain was a bummer! Thanks, Disney!
However, the BEST part about this voucher is that if a 1-Day Park Ticket doesn’t work for you, your party ticket could also be switched to another Magic Kingdom hard ticketed event in the future! Yaaaas!!
Now, even though this notice states that guests need to book the replacement Magic Kingdom event within the current calendar year…well…we don’t have that much time left in 2019, now do we. So Disney’s loosening the reigns a bit on that in this particular circumstance.
Per a call to guest services, if guests choose to switch their tickets to another hard ticketed event, all they have to do is call 407-939-7818 by January 31, 2020, for an available date to another Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Magic Kingdom After Hours, or Villains After Hours. Um, how AMAZING is the Disney Guest Services team?!
Still, though, there is a small issue with the voucher system. Our reporter noted that, unless people were told on their way out or received one of these notices, there’s no way they would know about the possibility for the “rain check” ticket.
There was no pop-up in the My Disney Experience app for our reporter, so that means guests would have to KNOW that they needed to search the app to see if they received the automatic extra 1-Day Park Ticket.
Although we haven’t exactly been able to figure out the threshold for when Disney decides what type of weather is extra-ticket-worthy, we do know from our research that this rain check system seems to go into effect regularly when there’s inclement weather in the Magic Kingdom.
Now another instance of this type of thing happening could be with those pesky Rise of the Resistance boarding groups. When another one of our friends here at DFB was in a later boarding group that didn’t get called for the day in question, a fastpass for the attraction was dropped into her My Disney Experience account, but there was no notification about its existence.
The moral of the stories? Keep a close eye on your My Disney Experience app tickets and fastpasses sections in case a windfall like this drops into your lap while you’re in Disney World!
And if you plan on going to a hard ticketed event in Disney World, be sure to keep an eye on the weather! If it starts to rain or there are other weather problems, check with a Cast Member to see if the vouchers will be given out.
But if you’ve already left the party, be sure to check your My Disney Experience account after the fact to see if the 1-Day Park Ticket was distributed. And, don’t forget to call Disney to confirm and re-book a new event if it’s applicable! (We’re so game for heading to another Villains After Hours.)
Even though the rain can totally be a bummer during any Disney event, this voucher might just make up for it! ;-D Thanks, Uncle Walt!

When we were staying at the Polynesian for two weeks I fell getting out of the Pirates of the Caribbean because I slipped on the water that was on the bench. I went to the hospital and was in severe pain on my leg because of being on blood thinners. My leg was bleeding inside. Did not enjoy the trip and my family that was staying in our adjoining room did not enjoy it either because of my pain. We paid for our whole trip and received nothing! What do you think of that?

Did they have to cancel anything at the party because of the rain?
The reason why am asking is I was they’re the first day of the Christmas party and we did not receive a rain check in the app. But they did not cancel anything I don’t think.

We received one of these on Wednesday. It was a really nice gesture! They had cast members stationed at all the exits handing out the info the cards. It wasn’t just rain. It was torrential downpour and thunder starting at about 7:45pm, causing cancellation of several events and perks (cookie stations closed, photography closed, no stage show, no parade). There was barely any time to enjoy the benefits of the party, which technically started at 7, and the rain lasted through the night. Still bummed we missed most of MVMCP, but it was definitely an experience to remember 🙂

I have to call Disney to confirm but it appears that we were given a raincheck ticket

We were there when Rose of the Resistance opened. My husband’s boarding queue was called and he waited in line, and as he was almost to the ride, it broke down, so they not only gave him a fastpass for it, but since we had planned on going to a different park the next day and didn’t have park hopper, they gave him a park hopper as well. The next day, he went and it broke down again and they wanted to give him the same for the next day but he explained the next day was our last and he wanted to spend it at MK with his family, so they were willing to give him a fastpass to whatever ride he wanted in MK. They actually gave him 2 so our oldest who could ride with him could join him. They really do all they can to accommodate unfortunate circumstances if they can.

I was at the very rainy first Christmas party of the season and nothing was mentioned about a rain check and nothing showed up in the MyDisneyExperience app, either. Sure wish it would have because the weather really put a damper on the “party” experience.

I was at the November 8, 2019 MVMCP and the weather was terrible! They cancelled the Mickey celebration at the castle and I believe the Elsa celebration also. They lit off the fireworks late but in the pouring rain! The 11 o’clock parade had the characters go by in cars. Super disappointing! Never received a voucher and have talked with customer service and they said they will only accommodate 2 out of the 3 rain dates. November 8th not being one of them. So disappointed in Disney!

I was on hold for two hours while trying to add my daughter and grandaughter to my Disney vacation and I didn’t complain a bit. The girl in guest services added three fast passes a day for the length of our stay for everyone in our party!! I was so happy!

I was on hold with Disney trying to add my daughter and grandaughter to my existing reservations for TWO hours! I didn’t complain at all and at the end of the conversation the girl apologized and said she was going to give us fastpasses. She gave us three fastpasses per person per day for the length of our stay!!! I was flabbergasted!!

A smaller issue but I wanted to report our bus broke down as we were boarding at our resort. The delay resulted in us missing a dining Rez. We went to city hall to explain so we wouldn’t be charged a fee for missing and were told by awesome MaryElizabeth that we got two free FPs for our party any park, any ride that day! We were not told. It was just lucky for us. Maybe others know that policy. We did not.

Recently returned from a trip to Disney. Things are very expensive even though we had a magical fun time. However in one of the food restaurants in Magic Kingdom Liberty Square my grandson wanted a Mickey Mouse southernaire sippy cup as it was called. I don’t understand why it would be called a sippy cup because the lid does not stay on not even a little bit and the contents easily spelled out. For a $17 sippy cup the lid should stay on. I wish we did not purchase this on our last day there or I would have brought it back to the restaurant.

Luanne, you need to take it up with your insurance company. This is why we buy travel insurance for extended vacations.

Two different years between 2005 and 2009, my husband and I went to the Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party… and it poured… costumes plastered to the body… no fireworks… no stage shows outdoor event … well …
Trick or treat stations limited to covered areas…
We questioned about refund or exchange for another time…
Were told no… party held… no matter limits… can’t control weather and no way were they compensating everyone who attended!!!
So second time it rained all over our party… well I almost didn’t want to come back…
Glad I didn’t … 3rd time was a charm… loved it!!
This was a time when fast passes were paper and there was no “app” or magic bands!!
Saw parade 2x and fireworks were great!!
But would have been nice to have gotten some pixie dust… felt cheated … even candy haul was what I could hold in 2 hands… not a ziplock quart bag full!

this article is gonna cause tons of problems for Guest and Ticket Services. Because even if it sprinkled, guests are gonna call up and say “Well Disney Food Blog said Im supposed to get a free ticket”. And they will yell and get nasty until they get it.

Thank you for this article! We attended a Christmas party that was exceptionally rainy, and I wouldn’t have known about the “rain check” if I hadn’t read this! Appreciate all you do to keep us “in the know!”

On our recent trip we stayed at Pop and we were surprised with a $25 gift card. We declined the daily housekeeping and we were rewarded. I don’t know if it’s for all resorts, but it’s worth a try!

Josh, we love that option!

*RAIN* check indeed, lol

We got reimbursed for our Christmas Party night. It was still a bummer though. My grand daughter’s first time there and we really wanted her to experience it 🙁

Disney lost tons of revenue from our family for not doing something like this years ago. Before the kids were born, we went to a MVMCP and loved it. Waited to go again until the kids were five (triplets!), and it rained so hard that water was ankle-deep in Tomorrowland. No parade at all, most character meets were closed, and there was no point to the fireworks because it was raining so hard when they set them off that no one was willing to stand out to watch them, even with ponchos. We asked about rain checks to at least come back and see the parade and were told we’d have to buy five more tickets if we wanted to see the parade.
We’ve never been to another hard-ticketed event since. We go to WDW four weeks each year (yay for DVC!) but we’re not about to waste money for something that might be rained out. They could have made thousands upon thousands of dollars off us had they simply refunded the cost of our MVMCP tickets years ago. They opted not to.
