Goodbye “Year of the Pig” and hello 2020, the “Year of the Mouse”! (Alright, so maybe it’s actually the “Year of the Rat”, but close enough, right?)
We’re super-stoked about the return of the limited-time Lunar New Year event, which is a multicultural celebration at Disney California Adventure that starts January 17th and runs through February 9th, 2020. And we’re even MORE excited to attend this year’s fest now that Disney’s just shared a sneak-peek with us!
The Lunar New Year event is included in the price of your regular park admission — no special ticket required! Folks who attended last year’s celebration may be happy to hear Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession and Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration will be returning!
And according to Disney, “beloved characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will don new festive Lunar New Year attire this year as they greet guests at Paradise Gardens. Other characters guests may find in this area include Mulan, Pluto, and the Three Little Pigs who also join in the Lunar New Year celebration.” Oh boy! We were hoping the Three Little Pigs would find a way to hang around! They were so cute last year!
And what about the eats, you’re probably asking? (We always have food on our minds, too!) Disney’s shared a few dishes that look might tasty! You’ll find special festival fare inspired by Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine at the following four Lunar New Year food booths:
- Longevity Noodle Co.
- Lucky 8 Lantern
- Prosperity Bao & Buns
- Red Dragon Spice Traders
You’ll also be able to find Asian-inspired Lunar New Year menu items at Paradise Garden Grill as well as Lucky Fortune Cookery in Pacific Wharf. Disney’s shared with us a selection of some of this year’s offerings! Check out the Smoked Beef Bulgogi Short Rib you can try at this year’s fest!
Or how ’bout the returning vegetarian-friendly Orange Tempeh? The tempeh is even Mickey-shaped! So cute!
These Lo Mein Noodles look like they’d really hit the spot! If you’re a longtime DFB reader, you already know how much we adore our NOODS!
And you best be believin’ we can’t wait to get our hands on this Mickey Chinese Hot Dog Bun again! It’s so adorable — plus it’s studded with sliced hot dog pieces! We’re so jazzed this treat is returning!
And to wash down all the tasty bites, Disney will be pouring this Peach Sojito — a Korean spin on a classic mojito!
And we’re still obsessed with this Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc Macaron! The colors are so pretty and we can’t wait to try it out again!
We can’t forget to talk about the Lunar New Year MERCH! Check out these gorgeous Asian-inspired Lunar New Year Minnie Ears!
And here’s the Lunar New Year Spirit Jersey! We think we’re gonna need one of each to celebrate the Year of the Mouse in true Disney fashion!
The festival will also include authentic Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese dancers and musicians, kid-friendly crafts, and activities and an interactive “Lucky Wishing Wall”!
