Epcot’s upcoming Regal Eagle Smokehouse is almost here (hopefully), and we are SO ready for some BBQ!
Earlier today, we visited the site of the future BBQ-joint to check out the progress of construction, and now we have even more exciting details that have us itching for the newest Epcot restaurant to open its doors!
Disney Parks has released some new images and information for the restaurant, featuring the BBQ-joint’s namesake Sam the Eagle! Our favorite patriotic Muppet will be featured in the decor of the new restaurant. He will be front and center on this sign — which also looks like it may be the restaurant’s logo — which will be on display when you enter the fast-casual eatery. Sam is looking like his usual stoic self, but is fully prepared for some BBQ with grilling tools grasped in his talons!
We also got a sneak peek at a Sam the Eagle-themed poster that will be displayed in the restaurant, advertising Sam’s Centennial Cook-Off! When you visit, it seems as if it will happen to be Sam’s Annual Cookoff. This event will be hosted by Sam himself, and will be “a salute to all cook-offs…but mostly barbecue!” We cannot wait to check out this “event”, which is described as “a competition fit for all patriots and pitmasters”, and will apparently feature a variety of classic BBQ favorites from across the country going head to head to compete for Sam’s top honor!
We are SO here for more Muppets in the park, and were thrilled to learn that Sam the Eagle decor (along with exclusive merchandise!) will be prominently on display in the newest Epcot eatery. The restaurant will be opening its doors later this winter, but in the meantime, you can check out our review of some of the menu items here!

I’m confused. You keep saying later this winter. Does that mean we have to wait until November or December 2020 before it opens?
DFB Sarah says
Brandon, Disney had published that it would open in December 2019, and since that date has passed, we expect this winter — meaning January/February/maybe March 2020.

so according to the poster they will have an annual BBQ cookoff? complete with challengers?
