We’re out here reporting LIVE at Disneyland this morning to see how the grand opening of Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge West is goin’ down!
How was traffic getting here, you ask? Not SO HOT! But we DID make it here just in time for the gates to open with the rest of these fine Rise of the Resistance rope-dropping champions! And even though we ALL got here SUPER EARLY — we knew we’d be in for a looong wait until the mad-dash to secure our boarding groups once the virtual queue finally opened at 8 AM!
The Disneyland gates opened a little before 6 AM this morning. With only a few shops open on Main Street, U.S.A. there wasn’t much to do except mill about in nervous anticipation! Oh, and wait in the ridonkulous-ly long line for Starbucks!
Every 20 minutes or so an announcement was made informing guests the Disneyland app would start allowing reservations starting at 8 AM. And once 8 AM finally neared, it was BATTLE STATIONS, people! Glued to our screens, we’re READY FOR IT! GAME ON!
Once 8 AM hit, we were quickly able to snag a boarding group on our Disneyland app. People were huggin’ and screamin’! We hope YOU were one of the folks we saw overcome by jubilation!
And then, in what felt like moments later, it was OVER! Just as quickly as the frenzy had settled over the crowd, it was lifted! All the boarding groups were distributed in just 20 minutes! That’s right, by 8:20 AM electronic boards confirmed all the passes were GONE just like dat! The first 82 groups disappeared within seconds, but backup groups were still available for some time after.
While they are not currently accepting boarding groups, this does not mean that the status will not change throughout the day. This will really depend on how smoothly the ride is operating and how swiftly they can move guests through.

Were you lucky enough to snag a boarding pass this morning? Which group did you get? Tell us in the comments below!
Hi, we are going in february, do we have to be inside the park to get a boarding group?? We are going only one day to each park, any recomendations??
Paola, if the virtual queue works the same way in February, you need to scan into the park in order to be eligible for a boarding group. If you’re only doing one park each day, that’ll have to be your DHS day.
My husband and I were right there with you. Waited an hour and 15 min in that absurd Starbucks line, and we weren’t even close to the tail end of it. When 8am hit, I tried to get a BP and was told twice that an error had occurred, please try again. On my third try, we got #88. We got on it at 7:03pm. We’re going back this coming week to hopefully go on it again. It Is the best immersive experience ( I won’t call it a ride) I’ve ever been on!! Absolutely incredible!!
Spending the day at Disneyland and all boarding groups were full within one minute. I received standby group 83.
