The time has come! After the positively INSANE guest response to the opening of Rise of the Resistance in Walt Disney World just over a month ago, it’s FINALLY Disneyland’s turn to escape the First Order!
We’re right in the middle of it all in Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, so follow along with us as we experience this amazing ride for the first time…AGAIN!
We are reporting LIVE from the grand opening on Rise of the Resistance today! So, be sure to follow along with us as we update you on all the stellar need-to-know Rise info throughout the day.
6 AM
It’s a BUSY day at Disneyland! Cast Members opened the gates a little before 6 AM and eager guests quickly filled Main Street U.S.A.
Here’s a look at the Starbucks line…yes the STARBUCKS line! Where it begins and ends…the world may never know! 😉
Guests are currently only being held on Main Street as well. We will let you know if this changes!
6:30 AM
Wait…I think we found the Starbucks line!
They are now letting guests into the hub area of the park. Groups are beginning to form near the entrances to Frontierland and Adventureland.
Similar to Hollywood Studios’ Rise of the Resistance in Disney World, you’ll need a boarding group to get on the ride! Boarding groups are available through the virtual queue system on the official Disneyland app! Once Disneyland opens for the day and you step inside the park, you’ll have access to join a boarding group — but even though you can’t reserve your ride time until the park’s official opening time, we STILL recommend getting here early! If Disney World’s Rise has taught us anything, we’ve learned these boarding groups fill up FAST!
Boarding groups are currently set to be released at 8 AM today.
6:45 AM
Currently, Main Street Cinema, Starbucks, The Emporium, and the Penny Arcade are open for guests to enjoy.
7:45 AM
The calm before the storm! Lines outside of the park are looking pretty normal.
Most of the traffic has moved away from Main Street U.S.A.
8 AM
Boarding Groups promptly opened at 8 AM. And YAY we were able to snag a boarding group!!!!
Guests will be sent a push notification when it’s our group’s turn to board. Those looking to board will recieve a push notification when it’s time to return or we can check “My Status” on the Disneyland app. Once we’re called we will have an hour to use our boarding pass to hop on Rise of the Resistance! Guests have typically been given 2 hours to board the attraction when riding in Disney World, but things seem to be a little different for the opening of Rise in Disneyland.
Please note that according to the Disneyland app, “Boarding groups 82 and above will only be called if all of the initially planned boarding groups have been called back and there is capacity for more riders. Capacity is limited. A boarding group does not guarantee entry to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. ”

8:20 AM
Signs are now informing guests that all of the boarding groups have been distributed throughout the day.
Find out why all the boarding groups are GONE — here!
9:30 AM
We had a little bump in the road when riding the attraction this morning!!
Sadly, the attraction broke down while we were riding!
But, luckily, we were given a FASTPASS and told to check back in about 45 minutes to see if the attraction was up and running again. We will be sharing more details on this experience soon, so be on the lookout!

Eats
And don’t forget that three BRAND NEW treats debuted in Galaxy’s Edge today. We, of course, will be reviewing them all for ya. We kicked things off with the new Toydaria Swirl, which is pretty much SPICY Green Milk from the Milk Stand. Our team had mixed reviews on if this is a hit or miss.
Read our full Toydaria Swirl review here!
Then, we tried the Black Spire Hot Chocolate, which is both SPARKLY (!!!) and delicious!

Annnnnd we also checked out the brand new Galma Garlic Puffed Cheese Chips! And spoiler alert…these are another knock out addition to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Check out our Galma Garic Puffed Cheese Chip review here!!!
A new TIE Interceptor mug has landed at Galactic Grill. You can get this thing with a drink or FRIES!

May be a dumb question, but is there any scuttlebutt in FL or CA about whether it matters what kind of phone you have or which cell provider you have to better obtain a Rise boarding pass? And does it seem to be random assignment rather than in numerical order (meaning if guest A gets into the system before guest B, will guest A necessarily have a lower group number than B)? Just wondering – I’ll be in DL in 10 days.

Tom, we haven’t noted any scuttlebutt about those things. And it’s hard to say how they’re assigning boarding group numbers. With so many people trying for groups simultaneously, it seems a little wonky.
