Thanks to the opening of Gran Destino Tower, there are now more dining options than ever at Disney’s Coronado Springs!
Today, we’re kicking it old school and headed to dine at an often overlooked Table Service spot that’s been serving up guests for years.
We’re talking Rix Sports & Grill! This upscale-pub-meets-sports-bar boasts craft beers, American fare, and plenty of TVs for all your viewing needs.
The interior features simple tables and chairs throughout with open seating at the bar if you’re looking to get up close and personal to the big game! There’s also plenty of opportunities to watch your game throughout the establishment. Yay sports!
Let’s dig into the menu! Recent additions in terms of Appetizers include Sticky Ginger Ribs and a Giant Pretzel and Queso. Noticeably absent are the Lobster Sliders.
Luckily, our beloved Watchos made the draft to the new menu.
Updates to the Entrees include the addition of Citrus Mahi, Lemon Pepper Chicken, and an Island Spice Mahi Sandwich, while The NY Strip has been removed. We also found an intriguing Adult Sundae on the Desserts menu (more on that later!).
We started our meal as many do when visiting a sports bar…with a beer! We were happy to see that they brought back their own beer, Rix Red. As you could have probably guessed, this one is a Red Ale but definitely on the lighter side and made for a nice drinkable beer.
Of the new starters, we had to try the Giant Pretzel and Queso. This German-style Pretzel is insanely large, like we’re talking twice the size of our heads! It’s really good but definitely not as soft as the big pretzels that can be found in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion or Pongu Pongu in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We could have also used a tad bit more salt on this thing.
The saving grace for this pretzel was the fantastic dipping sauces that accompanied it, Beer Lager Cheese Sauce and Chorizo Beer Cheese.
While the Beer Lager Cheese Sauce does have some peppers in it, it was definitely on the mild side and what you’d expect from standard queso dip. The Chorizo Beer Cheese was the real stand out and featured small bits of chorizo in it.
Is this the best pretzel found on property? We don’t think so…BUT it’s big, sharable, and well priced at $13.00.
Clearly, we weren’t stuffed from the pretzel alone! So, we decided to try the Adult Sundae! Priced at $9.00, we received a heaping pile of vanilla gelato, rum roasted pineapple (that’s where the ‘Adult’ comes in!), white chocolate macadamia cookies, pralines, whipped cream, strawberries, and caramel corn.
This was super tasty and a pretty substantial portion. The cookie on top was soft and yummy, basically everything you’d want in a cookie.
We loved the vanilla gelato although we thought there was a tad too much whipped cream, which made the search for the pineapple and strawberry a little difficult. The popcorn was a nice touch and added a welcome crunch to the dish.
All in all, we had a lovely meal in a welcoming atmosphere! We think this is a great hidden gem where you could kick back a few and enjoy a game. There are interesting and delicious options and the location is totally worth checking out if you’re staying at Coronado Springs.
