Construction is a BIG thing right now in Disney World since the 50th anniversary is coming up soon!
And, while we’re super excited for all the restaurants, attractions (Tron Lightcycle Run, baby!!), and more coming to the parks, we happened to spot a change today that gave us some major feels.
You might remember that Big Top Souvenirs has been closed off and on recently (once in December and again in January) for unknown reasons.
And, as we stopped by to find that it’s open again (yay!!!), we made a pretty sad discovery. Where did the old adorable carpet go???
While Big Top previously had colorful carpet that looked like stitched together tarps and was themed very circus-like…
…now it’s been switched to a dark gray carpet that doesn’t match the theme like the original did. Sad face. ):
The biggest problem with this carpet (other than the fact it’s not nearly as cute) is that it makes the already dark circus tent appear even darker. Tbh, it slightly gives us the creeps with how dark it is.
Buuut, not all hope is lost! The carpet may have been switched due to a possible flood in the store according to a Cast Member (who said that “unfortunately, Dumbo was splashing around”). The floor near the entrance to Big Top looks pretty unfinished, so we’re hoping that the new carpet is only a temporary fix.
Please bring back the fun themed carpet, Big Top!! We’ll keep you updated on any news on Big Top Souvenirs here! And, you can keep up with all the construction around the parks by subscribing to our newsletter!

Yeah, it’s flooding. What would you expect? The previous carpet was undoubtedly a custom piece that was planned WELL in advance. You would rather the place be closed for extra weeks/months for a piece of carpet???
Sandra G says
We were so disappointed that it was closed on our last trip. The CMs out front said there had been a fire. I’m fine with the new carpet, which has a nice aged wood feel. Yes, the other carpet was themed but this is fine too. It’s such a wonderful place to shop and pick up DP snacks.

I actually like this carpet much better. The other one was more “themed” but the solid beige was always dirty and stained. It looked gross.
Amy says
Yeah it was flooding from the sprinkler system 🙁
U are dumb says
It caught on fire and flooded… Chill with the article. No way they can get a custom carpet piece ordered that quickly to fill it back in.
Breed7 says
They had a fire in December and broken plumbing in January — both of which would have involved water damage, and you’re whining about the carpet? Guess they should just shit the place down until it meets your standards.
Steve says
Actually – nobody is “complaining” about carpet, they are just reporting it. Guess that DFB should check with you before posting their stories?
Veronica buzas says
Will the Minnie collection be available any where else but at the Disney stores. This Saturday 2/15/2020 ??
Diane B McCornack says
What hateful comments. They are posting news with their opinions….they didn’t attack you personally!
Jacqueline says
I totally agree, the carpet looks awful. It looks dark and dirty. I Hope they bring back the old carpet too.
NENolan says
The carpet probably was water damaged so I understand why they would have to replace it. It’s hardly something that keeps me up nights.
“The biggest problem with this carpet (other than the fact it’s not nearly as cute) is that it makes the already dark circus tent appear even darker. Um, that sure sounds like complaining to me.
Nicole says
It looks like carpet squares so I bet it’s temporary…. Breed7 you might check your spelling. This is a family friendly blog

I don’t think DFB is offended by these comments from these people. DFB can state their preferences, so who gives a rats behind what these people are saying. I love DFB. Let the haters hate!
Terry AH says
I agree. It doesn’t look thematic and it does look dark. I also agree that I hope it’s temporary. Of course it’s too bad they had flooding followed by a fire. No one said anything about that. I don’t see this as complaining at all. It’s reporting and observing. That’s what we count on DFB for. One of their staff is on Disney property almost daily. I enjoy and look forward to their shared information! Thank you AJ and team!
lisa says
Sorry Steve, you are wrong. Saying the new flooring is not quite as cute , does indeed qualify as complaining. The determination has been made.
Maria says
Do you really think people go into a store (or not) based on the carpeting? To be honest, in all the times I’ve been to WDW (and there’s been many, dating back over 30 years), I couldn’t tell you what the carpeting looks like in ANY store, ride, or attraction. It really makes no difference.
Janet says
The article was informative. The only whining I see comes from the commenters.
DFB Sarah says
Veronica, it will likely also be on ShopDisney.
Andrea says
It’s just a carpet. I don’t understand the fuss. How many people actually look at the flooring in Disney?
Susan says
Isn’t one of the reasons why Disney World is so popular is because of their attention to detail, the themes and the way they make you fell when you enter a new building/land/ride? I mean, go look up how intense it is to be considered for a face character, or the detail in the World Showcase. If you don’t like the article, you can simply stop reading it and move on to the next one without being rude. I know, it’s true. It is possible to dislike an article and then not make rude comments about it. Now you know.
