Did you snag your FastPasses for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway yet? You know, the zany, trackless dark ride that takes you into Mickey and Minnie’s wacky cartoon world and where anything (and we mean ANYTHING!) can happen?
Well, you might want to grab one (if they are still available) because the new attraction opens on March 4th, 2020!
While we already knew the new Hollywood Studios’ attraction and first dark ride to EVER feature Mickey and Minnie Mouse would be packed with loads of new technology and special effects during a special preview we attended, we didn’t know until this morning that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway actually has 2 plots AND tons of secret surprises!
See our FIRST LOOK at Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway HERE!
According to The Orange County Register, not only will this be the first time we’ll get to kick back and enjoy a train ride alongside our best pals Mickey and Minnie, but according to Walt Disney Imagineering’s Kevin Rafferty (who’s worked on numerous projects including Radiator Springs Racers, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror), this attraction will be the “first one ever that has a B story in addition to the A story. It’s very clear and it’s very fun.”
Find out everything you need to know about Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway before it opens here!
Regarding the secondary storyline, Rafferty went on to explain, “Everybody will see it… It’s subtle, but you will see it.”
Rafferty went on to discuss the new ride will also include many Hidden Easter eggs, stating, “This is the kind of attraction that there’s so much going on… Every scene is so jam-packed. It’s 10 pounds of potatoes in a five-pound bag… There’s so much to see… So many nods to such great stuff that hearkens back to the Disney studio and little nods to different things, even Imagineering. It’s going to take you many, many rides through to actually see everything. And you probably won’t even then.”
We also learned that riders will encounter hurricanes, waterfalls, and even stampeding bulls. We can’t WAIT for our first go-around on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway when it opens March 4th and we’ll be there LIVE with our review (BOTH a spoiler-free and spoiler-version) — so don’t turn that dial!

Thank you for this. We’re looking forward to this new experience when we visit with friends in April. (Yay, booking Fastpasses tomorrow!)
I hope when you provide the full review, you’ll comment on what amount of motion the ride has. I’m hoping it’s just like the old movie ride, which was pretty slow and steady. But the concept of a runaway railway make me wonder if there’s more speeding up or other action. I just don’t handle the motion stuff well.

Caryn, we will have a full review. What we do know is that the ride uses trackless vehicles, which can be more unpredictable than what we experienced in Great Movie Ride. But we found the vehicles to be surprisingly smooth on Rise of the Resistance (also trackless), so hopefully it’ll be okay for you. Stay tuned!
