This just in! We have heard reports from Magic Kingdom that a Jungle Cruise boat has just gone down at Disney World!

And one of our DFB readers was THERE when it HAPPENED! See the photo of the sinking boat BELOW water HERE!
This image was sent to us by a guest who was at Disney World today! As you can tell from the image captured, this event all unfolded very quickly. As you can see, guests who were on board exited safely as the water continued to flood in.

As of right now, the Jungle Cruise is closed. We’re not sure how long the attraction will remain down, but probably at least until they figure out why this happened!

In case you were wondering, there are 15 Jungle Cruise boats in circulation. The one that sank today is Bomokandi Bertha, which is one of the wheelchair lift-equipped boats. There is another wheelchair equipped boat — Wamba Wanda — so if this Bertha goes out of commission for a bit there should be no need to worry about having access to a wheelchair equipped boat.
The system does run on an underwater navigation system, but the reason for the sinkage is unknown at this time. Also, no injuries have been reported at this time.

My husband and I were on it we read your blog all the time before coming for our first trip. It was so unexpected and scary even though the water wasn’t very deep. I’m only five ft 2 and I can’t swim lol. I also was noticing the smell that someone has reported as gas and was crying at one point because people were genuinely afraid and some even saying they were going to jump out of the boat due to a smell of gas. Ah well memorable honeymoon story but not feeling great the morning after. Sick/ sore throat etc the water was up way past our ankles but some people were in it up to their torso. Hopefully I can shake it off as we have universal today

Wow! The water is deeper than I thought… I know POTC and IASW is barely 2 ft deep!
Disney really needs to stop acquiring more companies and start paying attention to upkeep like they used to. Too many things are falling through the cracks these days and it could become a real safety issue. I’m going in August and at this point I’m praying that everything will be okay. I’ve never worried about safety in WDW, but I’m starting to.
Kathy it’s a bit harsh to say they ignore safety. The sheer size of the parks means maintenance is a massive job and they do their part, somethings just can’t be helped. I would take the safety of Disney over the UK theme parks all day long. Yes I bet it was scary but everyone got off ok – bet the skyline breakdown was worse 😉
