Due to growing concern over the coronavirus outbreak, Tokyo Disney Resort will be closing its doors this weekend.
According to The New York Times, the Japanese theme parks Disneyland and Disney Sea are expected to remain closed until March 15th. [EDITOR’S UPDATE: Please note that, as of April 8, after additional extensions to the closure it has been announced that a new reopening date will be determined in mid-May.]
The statement that Tokyo Disneyland would be shutting down was issued by Oriental Land Co., the owner and operator of Toyko Disney Resort citing the government’s request issued by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this week to cancel or postpone any big events, gatherings, or sporting events in an effort stop the transmitting the infection.
With Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland already closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, Toyko Disneyland is now the third overseas Disney park to succumb to take precautions. We’ll continue to follow this story closely for any updates as more information develops.
