Greetings from the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival! We’ve been making our way to all of the outdoor booths to try all of the incredible food offerings, available now through June 1, 2020!
Located by the front entrance to World Showcase at Showcase Plaza, La Isla Fresca celebrates the flavors of the Caribbean and is finally open for the festival! We stopped by to see what’s returning and what’s new at this year’s festival!
Food
We’re kicking things off with a NEW menu item at La Isla Fresca: the Lamb Curry with Sweet Plantains and Rice. It might not be the most insta-worthy snack of the fest, but we thought this curry was a home run!
This snack is $6.25 (or a snack credit) and it took the place of last year’s Jamaican-braised Beef. The lamb was very tender and each component was packed with flavor that made every bite delicious! We are big fans of curry, but we think this one is mild enough for a variety of palates to enjoy!
We didn’t notice the spice at first but it built slowly while we were eating! It wasn’t overwhelming to us, but we do love a kick of spice! The plantains were a nice, sweet contrast to the slight spiciness of the curry. The rice was tender and served as a nice base to the rest of the curry — and helped fill us up!
We were thrilled to see the RETURN of a Flower and Garden favorite, the Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewer! This dish comes with Steamed Rice and Coconut Lime Sauce for $7.00 or a great use of a snack credit!
Also returning this year is the Tropical Mousse Cup! This dessert comes with layers of Passion Fruit Cake, Coconut Mousse and a Tropical Fruit Glaze with Fresh Pineapple for $4.50 or a snack credit! We thought this dessert really represented the tropical flavors well! The pineapple on top was really fresh and it was sprinkled with fresh coconut. The mousse and cake were light, fluffy, and mildly sweet — but this definitely isn’t an over-the-top sweet dessert!
The pineapple on top added an extra burst of sweetness and freshness that we loved. We could have done without the gelatin-type layer layer on top — because the gel texture didn’t quite blend with the cake and mousse — but, fortunately, there wasn’t too much, so we still really enjoyed this cup!
Drinks
For beverages, we saw mostly returning items to La Isla Fresca. The Tropical Breeze returns this year and is a non-alcoholic option for $4.50.
Also returning is the Golden Road Brewing Tart Mango Cart Wheat Ale for $4.50 AND the alcoholic Tropical Freeze. This year’s version is a slight variation from last year! Whereas last year’s drink was made with Cruzan Mango Rum, this year’s version is made with Parrot Bay Mango Rum. So, essentially the same, but ever-so-slightly different for $10.00!
La Isla Fresca was definitely worth the wait and we are thrilled that the booth is joining the festival again this year. If you’re on the hunt for fresh, tropical flavors, consider stopping by this tasty booth before the festival ends!
