While this morning we finally learned the exact date Avengers Campus is set to open in Disney California Adventure, we now know even more details about the new Marvel-themed land set to open this summer!
But that’s not all the MARVEL-ous news we have to share with you this morning about the Avengers Campus! We just learned even more details about one of the land’s two new major attractions!
Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure
The new state-of-the-art Spiderman attraction has an official name! It’s being referred to now as Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure! You’ll enter the new ride through the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or WEB for short.
Who Will You See On The Ride?
You’ll get to see Peter Parker (portrayed by Tom Holland) working on his inventions to let regular, ordinary people such as yourselves experience what it’s like to have superhuman powers! He’s been developing a new invention with the help of some other kid-geniuses like himself including 9-year-old Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl), Harley Keener (who appeared in “Iron Man 3”), and Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl). But suddenly one of his other innovations, the “Spider-Bots”, get stuck in a replication loop, creating more bots than Spider-Man can handle! They start to run amuck, and you’ll be enlisted by Spider-Man to help wrangle them up!
Ride Technology
You’ll board a web-slinger ride vehicle wearing 3D glasses and use hand gestures to fire and retract virtual webs! We’re thinking of this interactive attraction more like being inside one giant video game! Think of it as a souped-up superhero-y version of Toy Story Midway Mania!
So let’s talk webs, people. Syfy.com shared that, “utilizing a gesture recognition system that scans your position 60 times per second, the web-slinging interface moves so quickly that no hand-held device or sensor is required to render a virtual web; it’ll simply appear instantly, like magic.” They also shared that the webs will open doors, trigger conveyer belts, and moving objects “throughout virtual renditions of Avengers Campus locations Pym Laboratory, Avengers HQ, and the basement of the Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! drop tower attraction, which houses Taneleer Tivan’s storied collection of relics.”
You’ll use your webs to primarily shoot at the Spider-bots you’ll see crawling just about everywhere! One cool aspect of the Spider-bots? They change color depending on what they’re doing and you get more points depending on the colors you hit! Brent Strong, an Executive Creative Director of Imagineering, shared more details on the Spider-bots: “When they go to start destroying the environment, [like] eating things, they start to glow red. When they’re about to self-replicate, they start to glow blue. When they get into The Collector’s crazy alien goo, they become unstable and green. There’s even a handful of gold bots that escape the lab with heat shielding on them. Those are worth a lot of points.”
Height Requirement
Disney also shared with us much like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure will have no height requirement and will feature TONS of hidden Easter eggs and surprises! The ride is designed to have tons of re-rideability and secrets to unlock over time.
Ride Time and Scoring
There will be a 2 1/2-minute pre-show where Spider-Man will appear on a multi-layer projector screen. The attraction itself should last around 4 1/2-minutes.
Not only will each player get an individual score, but each car will be treated like a “team” and highest team scores for the hour, day, and month will be displayed prominently on a display board in Avengers Campus for all to see! So riders can coordinate with their other riders to try and tackle getting a top score!
FastPass+ Information
Our friend @carlyewisel shared that while Disney officials have yet to confirm if the new attraction will launch with FastPass, the attraction is enabled for it. She also shared that the queue area will mostly outdoors, but covered!
Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure is slated to open for phase one of the Avengers Campus! But hold tight, because we have even MORE updates to share with you including Marvel character interactions, food, and merch when the new land opens in Disney California Adventure!
