Disney World has fallen into a deep slumber since closing its theme parks on March 16th.
And while Disney officials were tentatively planning on re-opening Walt Disney World Resort April 1st, the temporary closure has just been extended.
Disney World will remain closed until further notice. Cast Members will continue to be paid through April 18th.
This news follows Orange County Mayor Jerry Deming’s recent stay at home order which will run from March 26th through April 9th. Even before this decision to extend its dates, this has been the longest Disney World has ever been closed.
Universal Studios Orlando has also amended its temporary closure dates.
If you had plans to travel to Disney World during this time, you can check here to see what Disney World will refund as well as how to cancel your Disney trip here.
We continue to release more information regarding Disney World extending its temporary closure as it becomes available.

Are Disney World Restaurants Really Just Firing Everybody?! It’s Much More Complicated Than You Think
Tom says
Sorry to about the extended closure, but if this will help to stop the spread of this terrible virus, I’m totally for it.
We are pass holders, and were soooo looking forward to our trip in April, to the beautiful Flower and Garden Festival .
Hopefully by the end of April, we can get back to our merriest place on earth.

I understand being vigilant but I think some precautions have been extreme. SURELY, things will be back to normal by May????
Alexis says
Pris, If you look at or read any of the projected medical charts for the coronavirus, it is not forecasted to be better by May. Especially since both Florida and California are in the top 5 hardest hit states.
Susan Easterday says
The medical community has many different predictions about how many cases, etc. If you listen to Dr. Deborah Birx (on the task force), she indicates that the “scary” death numbers are highly exaggerated. And, we all knew–with all of the testing–that we would see more cases. As the cases go up, it does not mean that the death rate will go up. If you look at worldometers.info/coronavirus, you’ll see that 95% of the world cases are mild.
So, I’m hoping that all these local governments do this to “flatten the curve” then plan to get everyone back to work. We can do both–protect the older and vulnerable AND get the healthy people back to work. Even a company like Disney can’t stay closed for months and months. There has to be other options.

Alexis, just so that there is not misinformation, as to the status of where Florida is with COVID-19. I would suggest, turning to The Florida Department of Health, Division of Disease Control. I like to refer to their site for real time updates. For the State of Florida and individual counties. I find it to be most helpful, from those in the know. You can click on Orange County & Osceola County. Both of which parts of WDW fall into. I hope that this site, will help provide some updates on COVID-19 looking to travel to WDW, and or Florida in the near future.

Disney World needs to open sometime in April, even if it is with reduced attendance or hours.
Lynn says
We saw the writing on the wall. Canceled our April 28th trip before the announcement. We LOVE Disney World but it’s not worth our lives. Hope to be back soon, but I’m afraid to re-book for fall in case the virus resurfaces.
I guess it’s a good time to get my husband on the treadmill so when we do go, he can keep up with me!!! 🙂
Judy says
We were so fortunate to be in Disneyworld the first week of March. It makes me so sad to see the park empty, but this virus is for real. I live I in NJ and we are second in cases only to New York. Our governor moved quickly to shut down businesses and schools . Everyday is a day closer to the end of this scary time and a day closer to the Happiest Place on Earth. Be patient, be safe, be healthy and we will all come out stronger when it is over.
