As Disney Parks around the world are closed “until further notice,” other areas of the Walt Disney Company are also, of course, being impacted in light of the current global situation.
While non-essential cast members in both Disney World and Disneyland have previously received notification of furloughs, today brings the news that employees “whose jobs aren’t necessary at this time” have now received official furlough notices at Walt Disney Studios as well.
As is the case with park cast members, the temporary furloughs will begin on April 19th. Affected employees will remain Disney employees and will still receive full health care benefits (with the cost of employee and company premiums paid by Disney). Other benefits include continued access for those enrolled to the Disney Aspire program, and the ability to use paid-time off hours at the beginning of the furloughs.
According to the The Hollywood Reporter, departments which have been especially impacted include marketing and distribution.
The Walt Disney Studios encompasses Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Disney’s live-action studio, Walt Disney Animation Studios, 20th Century and Searchlight. Major cinematic productions which have already been announced for delayed release include Mulan (which will debut in theaters on July 24th).
