With the parks currently closed, Disney World and Disneyland have chosen to furlough several Cast and Crew Members beginning April 19th.
More than half of Disney World’s employees were furloughed through the latest agreement with the Service Trades Council Union. We also saw furloughs of other unionized musicians and electrical workers, but now an agreement has been reached regarding unionized performers.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Actors’ Equity Association has come to an agreement to furlough 800 Disney World actors and performers starting April 19th.
The chief negotiator for the union stated he was “proud to be able to reach agreement on our primary goals, to ensure both continued access to health care throughout the furlough, and a guaranteed return to employment under the contract for everyone on the Equity agreement.”
Along with Disney World employees, entertainers on Broadway are experiencing similar situations as the theaters have gone dark. However, the Disney on Broadway 25th Anniversary Concert will be streamed to raise money for these Broadway performers who have been recently affected by the closures.
