Yeah, it’s a big bummer that the parks are closed right now, but we’re not going to let that bring us down!
Not when there’s still plenty of Disney magic happening around the world — if you know where to look for it!
Social media is such a great way to stay connected right now, but we gotta admit — we’ve developed quite the habit for “snooping” on some of our favorite Disney artists and legends! Come explore with us what some of our favorite Disney peeps are up to these days!
Disney Legend Bob Gurr Toasting Us From His OG Mr. Toad Car
At 88-years YOUNG you wouldn’t necessarily expect this legendary Imagineer to know anything about operating an Instagram account, but you’d be wrong! In fact, the Disney guru is quite active on social — even posting this pic of him in his living room — which just so happens to be fully-equipped with one of the original 1955 vehicles from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride!
In fact, Mr. Gurr wrote he raises a toast to the sunset every night from his beloved “Winky” and we think it’s the raddest thing we’ve ever seen!
Gurr had a hand in designing several ride vehicles for Disneyland including Autopia, Haunted Mansion, Monorail, Submarine Voyage, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds!
As for keeping busy, Mr. Gurr has been buzzing around the Matterhorn using a flight simulator program on his computer. “Some nights I’m in Zermatt circling the real Matterhorn in my big helicopter and just the other night I buzzed through the Las Vegas Strip in my cute little chopper. Now that I’m not doing appearances, I have more time to be in hot water…yes, in my outdoor Jacuzzi, especially at night in my lighted Tiki-like backyard.”
Occasionally Mr. Gurr has been selling miniature replicas of Disneyland’s Matterhorn as well as autographed copies of ride vehicle patents and attraction posters on FandomProductions.com. The quantities are super-limited, so ya gotta be quick if you want to snag a piece of Disney history from this legendary guy!
Joe Rohde (Self-Acclaimed Guy with The Huge Earrings) Giving Super-Detailed Photo Tours of Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Another huge Disney figure who has been entertaining the masses is Joe Rohde. Even if the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ll most likely know who we’re referring to once you check out his Instagram. He’s been in tons of videos and is an expert when it comes to Disney’s unique way of telling a story through details.
Rohde has been showing us just how many of these details are infused throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom. From original artworks to recreated artifacts, many of the objects aren’t just decoration — they hold a deep and personal meaning for cultures all over the world. We’re are learning so much from his posts! And…ahem, Disney…we hope that he gets his own Disney+ series!
Recently he posted, “Let’s take some time with the ritual objects that we see at Expedition Everest. The most unusual are the animal heads surrounded by a variety of woven amulets. The original ones, from when we opened, were carved wood. The newer ones use replica animal skulls. These are more accurate to the look and feel of the actual pieces in the Himalayas.”
Wow! We’re totally going to be hunting for all these little details on our next trip to Disney World!
Scott Thompson Teaching Us How to Draw One of Our Favorite Disney Characters
Scott Thompson is using his downtime and his Instagram account to help us learn a new skill — drawing! He makes it look so easy! We can assure you, our drawing of Ariel from The Little Mermaid didn’t turn out quite as perfectly, but it was still really fun to see how animators do what they do best!
Just think of what you could do if you discover you have a talent for drawing like Scott Thompson! You could become Disney’s next animator superstar! We believe in you!
Spice Up Your Zoom Calls with Disney Artist Jeff Granito’s Colorful Backgrounds
Don’t want your co-workers to see the remainders of last night’s pizza and netflix rager strewn all over your living room? We’ve got just the thing! One of our favorite Disney artists, Jeff Granito, is selling digital versions of his artwork on his website to help “liven up” your boring office calls!
Jeff Granito was also the designer behind this Food and Wine Festival pillowcase we were obsessed with at Disney California Adventure earlier this year! His colors and patterns are super playful and remind us of cool vintage stuff!
He’s also selling pillowcases, art prints, pins, and vinyl stickers featuring many of his gorgeous pieces! We seriously want EVERYTHING he’s got — he must have the COOLEST house!

Trader Brandon’s Transmissions
Speaking of people with cool houses, we’d love to be invited over to Trader Brandon’s tropical hideaway! Trader Brandon helped decorate Disneyland’s Trader Sams Enchanted Tiki Room and he’s also the author of “Field Guide to Tiki Decorating” — so ya know he’s got to have some fantastic stuff at his home!
But since we won’t be hanging out with the former Imagineer anytime soon, we discovered the next best thing! We’ve been tuning in to Trader Brandon’s Transmissions which he posts regularly on his Instagram!
He’s chatted with some notable Disney peeps in the 20+ episodes he’s already done including performers, Cast Members, and even some Imagineers! Grab a tiki drink and tune in some time!
Other Ways to Stay In-Touch With the Disney Imagineers
Some of Disney+’s exclusive series have been an awesome way to get our Imagineer-fix lately including Disney Insider, Imagineering Story, and One Day at Disney.
Plus, we can’t wait to see the new Prop Culture series that is being released soon! We’re going to learn stories about some of our favorite movie props from films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Mary Poppins, and The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Click here to learn more about Disney+’s new Prop Culture series AND watch the trailer!
And if you haven’t check out The DISH yet, what are you waiting for? Imagineers are giving a behind-the-scenes tour on the #DisneyMagicMoments website of this facility! It’s what they use to previsualize the projects they’re working on, including new rides and park experiences, before they’re ever built. It’s super futuristic and totally BANANAS!
Take a tour of Disney’s Digital Immersive Showroom, a.k.a. The Dish, here!
Until the parks reopen we’ll keep creepin’ on our favorite Disney artists and Imagineers on social media and report back to you what we find. Just remember to cheers Bob Gurr in his Mr. Toad car when the sun begins to set tonight! Cheers, BOB!

Who are some of the Disney people you enjoy following on social media? Let us know in the comments below!
F. George Dunham, III says
Wonderful. I’m so jealous of that Winkie Toad car. I wish I had one. I loved Toad even though I also love Pooh. Plus Winkie was my nickname when I played football in high school. Also I love the drawing lessons. I hope there are lessons on how to draw Mulan because she’s my favorite of all time. I have a full sized movie poster of Mulan in my office and would love to learn to draw her. She’s so powerful and beautiful. I have a lot of ideas for new stories for Mulan and I could draw them like my own book.
