Although we’ve been at home watching plenty of Disney+, we do miss going to the movie theaters.
AMC Theatres originally planned to keep its locations open with lowered guest capacity during the outbreak, but ultimately chose to close them as a safety precaution. With the recent closures, Disney also decided to push back the release dates of its film schedule for movies like Spider-Man 3 and Black Widow. However, there is a little hope for theaters opening up for big premieres this summer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC Theatres stated that they won’t reopen their locations until there are new and popular films coming to the big screen. But, this summer will bring Tenet on July 17th as well as Mulan on July 24th, which could give theaters the chance to reopen.
AMC stated that, “to be able to open, we also need a line of sight into a regular schedule of new theatrical blockbusters that get people truly excited about returning to their favorite movie theaters.” They added, “while we expect to open our theaters in the weeks ahead of these new blockbusters, utilizing creative programming of immensely popular previously released films, we would be wise to do so only directly in advance of the release of major new movie titles.”
So it looks like AMC isn’t rushing to open until weeks before release dates — when they are confident they will have a “regular schedule” that will interest guests. We’ll keep you updated with more information!

Sounds like a Catch-22. The theaters don’t want to open until there are films to show and the studios don’t want to release films if no one can go see them.

This is silly. They need to figure this out quick.
