If you recently sensed a great disturbance in The Force today, we think we might know why!
You see, while we’ve been SUPER excited to get our hands on the new Star Wars Day merch that was added to shopDisney today, we haven’t been able to get the website to work!
Just yesterday, shopDisney announced they would be implementing a new virtual queue system for their special May the Fourth releases, but so far, it’s been a bit of a bust! Disney even tweeted they are having technical difficulties with shopDisney and apologized for the delay.
We tried clicking on several of the items, only to find out they’d already sold out or the page wouldn’t successfully load.
We were lucky enough to get one of the new Starbucks: You Are Here Star Wars Mugs to open up for us! It reminds us of the ones we see inside the Disney parks, only its design features an awesome Stars Wars location! The Starbucks: You Are Here Hoth Mug costs $19.99 and there’s also a style for Bespin and Dagobah as well!

We’re hoping the issue shopDisney is having gets resolved soon so that everyone can load up their virtual shopping carts with all this cool Star Wars swag! In the meantime, did you hear a new Star Wars movie has just been announced? Learn more here!

What pisses me off about it is the fact I had it my bag at 703, and the site auto logged me out while processing payment! Log back in only to be stuck in line with everything already “sold out”
I had the same frustration. I had the ears in my cart, even put my mailing address and hit purchase… got the spinning circle of death then wreck-it Ralph appeared saying something went wrong. Then the website was down for hours. Then everything was sold out. Did anyone purchase anything? Did only scalpers get them?
I was in the virtual queue for 4 hours and by the time it let me out, of course everything I wanted was sold out. Really wanted that Hoth mug!
I had everything with regards to the website ready to go the night before – I lwas logged in, had my address and personal info up to date including credit card info etc so that all I had to do was start adding the mugs and the key to check out at 7 am. Well just like the other guests, I unfortunately saw Wreck it Ralph and everything I wanted was sold out . I kept trying on the Disney web site for hours. I eventually went to the DFB website at 12:20 in the afternoon and got through to the Disney website in that round about way and was able to buy the Yoda stuffed animal and the Empire strikes back collector pin.
THANKS DFB!
Why does DIsney limit items when all people do is buy them to sell on EBAY? I really wanted the key and the 3 Starbucks mug too.
Like so many others, by the time I actually got on the site, everything I wanted was sold out (a couple of the limited edition pins & the Star Wars Key were the major items I was interested in).
I got in at around 10am EST and had my cart loaded by 10:10 and went to check out. It wouldn’t take my credit card. Kicked me out of the program a dozen times and wasn’t able to purchase anything till about 4pm EST. By then what I had in my basket was sold out. Wasn’t worth waiting all day for.
As soon as the Ahsoka ears came up I clicked on them and got the Virtual waiting room message. After about 5 minutes it kicked me out and even though they showed in my cart, the site wouldn’t let me sign in/check out. Within minutes the $78 ears were showing up on ebay (current asking price $325 to $600). I’ve had the same type of experience and come away empty handed from the last 5 limited releases. Didn’t limited releases (not limited edition) used to work that there was a set period of time that you could order the item and then they produced and mailed them? Obviously they aren’t making enough if the release is limited to a matter of minutes and scalpers know they can get 3 times the price or more.
I can’t even begin to explain how frustrating the entire experience was. I started checking the site three hours prior to the merchandise being offered. I had three others trying as well. The robots were allowed to get through the servers before we were. When we finally were able to place keys on our bags, we were all faced with the site locking up and then having to start again- only to find all were sold out.
If the virtual queues being discussed for park openings work the way this did, it is doomed for failure.
What is the consensus- will there be more mugs available for sale later, or are we out of luck? Maybe once the parks open, can someone confirm if they’ll be sold inside the Starbucks?
Thanks
Jon, sadly no info on this. But when things open up, we’ll be reporting on what’s available. (We love us some mugs around here!)
Has anyone been to Starbucks at Hollywood Studios? Are these mugs available in the parks? Thanks!
Jon, we have not seen them in the DHS Starbucks.
