We’ve been visiting Disney Springs every day since its reopening on May 20 to bring you the latest on Disney World’s shopping and dining district. Overall, we have noticed pretty low crowds on most days!
We weren’t sure what we would see today on Memorial Day, but once again Disney Springs is super quiet! Just take a look at these photos!
Typically, the Memorial Day holiday weekend is among the busier times of the year for Disney World. So this is a stark contrast to crowds we’re used to seeing!
The weather seems to be playing a big role today, too. Rain is forecasted for much of the day.
This scene may be very different on Wednesday, May 27, when World of Disney is scheduled to reopen. We will be sure to report on those crowds so we can compare them.
There were even places in Disney Springs today where we didn’t see a single person!
See what it’s like to shop at the retail stores that are currently open here!
Walking around outside, it almost looked like Disney Springs was still closed!
Crowd levels overall seem to be remaining relatively low as Disney Springs continues to reopen its retail shops and restaurants. We’ll see if this pattern changes in the coming weeks, especially as we anticipate some news from Disney this week in regard to a proposed reopening of the parks.

There’s no reason to be there. After the first few days, the parks will be the exact same way. Nobody wants to social distance and wear masks. Families with small kids literally can’t ensure social distancing and mask wearing.
JC says
Sadly, I believe it will continue to be very slow until the mask restriction is lifted although I see it happening even more when the parks open than in DS. As much as I adore Disney it is hard to imagine spending the money on a trip out there and being so restricted.

Between wearing a mask in the heat (and wearing a mask in the rain right now) and the limited number of shops and restaurants that are actually open currently, I don’t guess I’m that surprised. As more things open, it will pick up, but if the comments sections of many of the theme park and Disney blogs are anything to go by, many people plan to hold off coming until the mask requirement is relaxed.
Jim says
Not too surprised. For us anyhow, Disney Springs isn’t a destination, it’s somewhere we go on the day of the park to grab dinner. Plus, all the Disney shops are still closed, so even less incentive as the main draw isn’t there.
I hope the parks are that empty when they open! I’ll be there everyday 😀

Agree with Chad. I was wanting to go today, and normally would have driven an hour and a half to be at Disney for Memorial Day, but decided against it with the mask policy. I can stay and eat locally and not be forced to wear a mask.
Toni Nolan says
I agree with Chad. One can only do so much shopping and then you eat lunch and then what for the rest of the day? Plus the whole thing with the masks and social distancing, especially with small kids, can get trying enough for a family to say oh forget it, and go home. And let’s not forget that 4 states have a quarantine law in FL that would not let them go anywhere but straight to a hotel and no where else for 14 days.

No doubt wearing face gear will no be tolerated. You can’t see you kid or friend smile. There is no magic without smiling
Jason says
I agree with the first comment completely. Nobody wants to go to “The Happiest Place on Earth” and wear a face mast the entire trip! Disney will not start to rebound until they lift some of the restrictions.

Weather had nothing to do with it masks in 90 degree heat had everything to do with it Disney will c small crowds with that in place to spend the money it cost to go to Disney to wear a mask not worth it
Richard says
I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be for all the workers who have to wear a mask for hours
in the Florida heat and do it for the next several months.
How long can a restaurant afford to stay open with half the revenue coming in?
We need a vaccine in order for all of this to work.
Steve says
We were there on Monday. We had a great lunch at Wine Bar George. George was thrilled we were there and his staff was amazing, as always. There were a ton of discounts throughout. Boathouse store had 30% off the entire store. We have reservations at Boathouse for dinner tomorrow. I have no issue wearing a mask, and if that is what it takes to enjoy Disney, I will do so until it is no longer required.

My wife and daughter are Disney lovers. I know that wearing a mask is the right thing to do out of consideration for each other. Wearing a mask in 90 degree temperature all day will not be fun. With the way Disney is going to do the lines and some attractions not open, it does not make sense to pay that amount of money and not have real enjoyment. Maybe we will see you sometime in 2021. Only time will tell.

All this talk of a vaccine that will cure all is bull. For example, the flu vaccine was only 47% effective. Having to wait for a vaccine is a fallacy. Since the vast number of people that contracted the virus have recovered, there follows that there is already a cure. It’s the same cure that would be triggered by a vaccine. It’s called an immune system that manufactures antibodies to destroy the virus.
