Disney World announced yesterday that they are planning to reopen July 11th beginning with Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. They then plan to reopen Epcot on Hollywood Studios beginning July 15th.
When Disney announced their proposed reopening date, they also mentioned that they would be rolling out a brand NEW reservation system and that in order to accommodate guests with existing reservations, new hotel reservations and tickets would not be available at this time. Now, Disney has shared some more information regarding this new reservation system.
“When our theme parks reopen, we will manage attendance through a new theme park reservation system on DisneyWorld.com that will require all guests to make a reservation in advance for theme park entry. Over the coming weeks, we will be making some necessary updates to prepare for the launch of this park reservation system,” Disney stated.
Disney also shared, “Guests with existing Resort reservations will have priority access to the new park reservation system when it becomes available. Additionally, when reservations for dining and other experiences resume, Guests who had existing reservations will receive priority access to rebook. Keep in mind, for dining locations within our parks, Guests will need a park reservation and valid admission before they can rebook dining and experiences.”
This is just one of many bits of information that Disney has released regarding the parks reopening. They are also suspending FastPass+ and canceling the Disney Dining Plan and existing dining reservations.
We will continue to keep you updated as Disney released more information regarding this new reservation system.

Do you have an existing reservation? Let us know in the comments below.
Melissa says
I am still wondering if people like me (who have a Disney resort reservation but were waiting to purchase tickets) will have access to priority reservations? I don’t think they have addressed that yet?!??
Gloria Baxter says
This is ridiculous!!! You can make dining reservations 160 days out but now you will need a park reservation. That means you will need to have a park pass attached to you much sooner than 60 days for fast passes. Which means you will have to put out park money so much sooner and people don’t have it. Also, you may want to do rides in one park and eat at Coral Reef as a dining experience, so now you will need to have two park reservations in one day. Will that be allowed? If not, than what’s the point in buying park hoppers. Way way overboard with these changes. You will lose more than you will gain. Not the right time to roll out something new. Why use this virus to roll out something new. You are acting as if this virus will last for another year.
DFB Sarah says
Gloria, dining reservations are shifting to a 60-day window rather than a 180-day window.
DFB Sarah says
Melissa, they’ve said folks with existing reservations will have priority access. We’ll have to see how that plays out.
Yvonne Scales says
Will this still be in place for next year too?
Melanie Durham says
I just received my letter from Disney! I can’t wait! 💜 good luck everyone! Can’t wait to enjoy the magic again with all of you!
Laura Evans says
I have reservations and tickets for July 15th
Do you know when and how they will be contacting us to make park reservations. All my things are still intact in My Plans
DFB Sarah says
Yvonne, too early to know.
Gail says
I did but cancelled until the full magic comes back. Have annual passes that weren’t yet activated.
Rick Hutchison says
I just received an email from Disney regarding a trip in December. The email said exactly what you have been saying here. They assured me that because I purchased my hotel and park tickets as a package I will have priority access when the time comes. Disney has never let me down in the past so I trust them to do the right thing.
Megan says
What if I have an annual pass but I’m not planning on staying on/off property overnight. Will I still have priority in the reservation que?
Christine says
I have already paid for parki hopper tickets for November so what does this mean I have to pay for tickets and mite not even get in
JC says
Melanie Durham, what letter? I have resort/tickets booked for July and had DDP all paid for and I’ve received nothing.
Ken says
OMG, am I glad that I got to experience WDW during the good old days… Life will no longer be the same for those of us who loved the Mouse.. What will happen to annual pass holders or Florida residents. Does this mean that we will not be able to see the Mouse on a whim, spur of the moment visit. How about the water parks.. my wife and I would enjoy a visit depending on the weather outlook for any given day. I am in great fear that after 30 years of visiting multiple times a years before I moved to Kissimmee last 10 where I purchased a home to retire at… I will miss the Mouse big time. I am in great fear that the good times may be behind us and that I was lucky enough to enjoy it all before the new deal,,,, whatever it is. I will have to also consider trying to sell out my DVC membership if it gets to be more restrictive. I love the Mouse, and was looking forward to many more years but…..?
DFB Sarah says
Some guests with existing reservations have received email communications from Disney, so it looks like those are taking some time to roll out. Essentially it outlines the information Disney has released so far and reiterates that those with existing reservations will receive first access to the new theme park reservation system.
DFB Sarah says
Christine, this is not totally clear. When the theme park reservation system rolls out, hopefully we’ll gain some clarity.
DFB Sarah says
Megan, it sounds like APs will have earlier access to the new theme park reservation system when it goes live. It may be in phases, and Disney hasn’t specified anything beyond that.
Jack says
I spent many hours planning my next trip in late summer: which parks I would go to each day of my stay taking into account extra magic hours, deciding which rides I would try get on first, making Fast Pass reservations, and making lunch and dinner dining reservations for every day of my stay. Now Disney has thrown all of that in the trash. This will be the last year I ever purchase a Florida resident annual pass.
Steven in NJ says
Today, Friday, I’ve spoken to a live Cast Member about my Profile on the My Disney Experience, then asked about my unused 4 Park Tickets — as far as the NEW Park Reservation System, they know as little as we do as it’s still being developed. Even though all of the ADR are “cancelled”, including Disney Springs, they still appear on my Disney Planning so maybe they’ll use this information for a future booking. I let her know that we’ve booked an off-site hotel/airfare/car rental for October and she said just keep checking until the new reservation system goes live and book your park dates asap. The ADR won’t be needed until September anyway.
Victoria says
I am with Ken on this one. I moved down here to be by Disney so I could go anytime.
I think I may go to a Busch Gardens pass.
I don’t understand why are people going if there are no rides or fireworks ?
John Edley says
Does this cover Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween? It says “Experiences” but isn’t clear. We have that booked for September but we have yet to purchase park passes. Will this be cancelled and refunded?
Alicia says
I may now be regretting booking my Disney hotel through the airline rather than Disney itself!
I already purchased my ticket (14 day Ultimate Hopper) months ago when I booked straight from the Disney website thankfully, but my Hotel (Allstars) and flights are with BA.
I’ve had an email from Disney as an International Guest saying they will keep me updated with what I need to do.
While I do have my code number to link my hotel to the MDE app, it’s coming up as unrecognised, despite booking in January. Anyone know how long this takes to work? The system could be totally different by October (likewise the world situation and international travel may still be impossible). Do I need to call up? I feel like it’s too early to be asking for October! I was planning on calling bear the 60 day window for Fastpasses if it still wasn’t working but I don’t want to potentially miss out on park reservations.
I wonder how far in advance park reservations will need to be? Like will they open up for the next month at a time, the next week? Or 60 days out for your whole trip like the FPs are? Or just 60 days out one day at a time?
Will be interesting! As long as I can get into the parks and am physically able to travel, I will make the most of it!
DFB Sarah says
John, today we learned that MNSSHP tickets that have already been sold are expected to be valid for parties in 2020 and that no new tickets will be sold (at least not at this time). But we’ll be watching to see if this changes.
kat says
i booked a hotel room for the 11th but had not yet booked park tickets, will i have priority access or no?
Jessica says
DFB Sarah … this makes me so sad if no more MNSSHP will be sold. I was waiting to purchase our tickets until the parks was open. Due to says no refund if cancel. I cant imagine staying Disney hotel going parks all week and not going to MNSSHP.
DFB Sarah says
Kat, we don’t know yet. We will update as soon as this is clarified.
DFB Sarah says
Jessica, I can understand it must be so disappointing. We’ll have to wait to see how things unfold between now and August (when the Party is scheduled to start). We will update with info whenever we hear official word on things.
Jasmine says
Can you please tell me when you received this : “Guests with existing Resort reservations will have priority access to the new park reservation system when it becomes available. “
I just read another tweet where the complete opposite was stated in that people with existing resort reservations will not have priority access to purchase theme park tickets. This is so confusing!
DFB Sarah says
Jasmine, we have this info from yesterday. We’ll keep digging into it.
Christine says
So I already have park tickets for November but am staying off site so do I come under priority or is only for ppl staying onsite
DFB Sarah says
Christine, that’s not been fully clarified by Disney. Hopefully we will know more soon.
Lori Rienhardt says
I want to know I’d Disney is going to charge as much for a ticket that have less attractions and may have a time limits. Example-3 hrs max in the park on a reservation. If I can only go for 3 hrs I don’t want to pay full price
DFB Sarah says
Lori, still an unknown, unfortunately. When the new system is live, we’ll try to answer these questions.
Tina says
We have resort reservations for May 2021 but no park passes or dining plan as per Disney packages would not be released until June 2020. Just wait & see
Teresa says
Will they be starting soon? I was just one day out of the window to change before they made the announcement and shut down all changes. I have plane tickets I have to change within 12 days.
DFB Sarah says
Teresa, we sure hope so, but Disney hasn’t released a timeline for the new system to come online. We’ll be updating as soon as we see anything change.
Liz says
I have received nothing from Disney either. My trip was supposed to be in early September. Also, do you think the Food and Wine Festival will still happen
DFB Sarah says
Liz, we’re curious about details regarding Food and Wine as well. We will update when we learn anything.
HP says
Great information, much appreciated!
I have admission tickets for January but am staying at an off-site resort. Any ideas on the impact of this on our admission and where we stand in the pecking order for making reservations?
DFB Sarah says
HP, no info on this yet, really. We’re still not sure if “reservations” to Disney means Resort, Park tickets, or both at this point. We will update when the new system goes live.
HP says
Thank you, Sarah!
Picc says
We can’t wait to visit for my birthday. We got hotel reservations to Beach Club DVC for 6/23, a day after opening of DVC hotels. We have been watching diligently for updates for restaurant reservation options as well as transportation options updates. We are hoping the friendship boats run between Beach, Boardwalk, Swan and dolphin hotels but highly doubt it by that time.
Does anyone remember the Genie app that was supposed to come out I wonder if that will be the new app for DISNEY.
DFB Sarah says
Picc, this is what Disney said about Resort transportation: “Before the theme parks reopen, bus transportation will be available between your Disney Resort hotel and Disney Springs area. When the theme parks reopen, complimentary transportation will also be provided between your Disney Resort hotel and Disney theme parks.” As for restaurants, click here!
Dottie Burke says
We too have been having reservations (for November) at the Swan for quite some time, but didn’t buy the tickets before Covid hit everywhere. We never thought we would have to buy the park tickets at the same time. I don’t understand why Disney is not putting people with existing reservations before those who don’t have any. When my son tried to call them a few weeks ago, a cast member told him that we had to try to find a third party to buy tickets from?? Not only is that not safe, but ridiculous. From what we are reading online, it looks like we will not find out if we can get tickets and park reservations until maybe the end of summer?? Our links in My Disney Experience are not working properly with our group either.
DFB Sarah says
Dottie, Disney is saying “later this summer” for new ticket sales, and, unfortunately, they haven’t provided a timeframe. You may want to call the IT helpdesk regarding the linking issue.
