Disney World recently proposed a reopening plan to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force for approval.
The plan, which includes a soft reopening of July 11th for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom and of July 15th for Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, was approved by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and set to move on for review by the state government. Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially signed off on the proposal, which means the plan is approved for use.
With this go-ahead from government officials, Disney will open the theme parks in mid-July with significant added health measures. Prior to this, we will see the Disney Vacation Club resorts and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground begin to reopen on June 22nd.
Disney plans are likely set as a baseline with the approval from the governor, but that does not mean that certain aspects will not develop or change. We will keep you updated as we learn more or as any modifications are made.
At this time, Disney is not accepting new hotel reservations or allowing guests to purchase additional tickets. This is because Disney is introducing a brand NEW reservation system.
Read the latest details on the new reservation system here.
FastPass+ and the Disney Dining Plan have been suspended for the time being. And all Disney dining reservations have been canceled at this time.

We received an email from Disney today for our upcoming mid September visit. It basically said that we will have access to the new Theme park reservation system since we have valid park tickets. And that no new tickets will be sold to other guests at this time. We are just waiting to see how park hoppers will work since we have those and if our resort will be one that opens up. POR.

We are wondering what is left to experience? With no dining does that mean no places to eat on sight or ? We held onto so much hope and our trip is planned for August 29 – Sept 2 mainly for our honeymoon only took us 13 years to have and now this. With us not being local by any means what are you guys recommending to friends and or family that may be in same situation? Any help is appreciated. All the love from Kansas.

I am trying to patiently wait to change my reservations but I am starting to get nervous. I fell just beyond the window that could do it before the announcement and now I have two weeks before I was supposed to leave. I know no matter what I can get something re-booked with Disney but I need to know soon so I can do something with our airfare.

We are from the UK and were literally about to book a WDW trip for May 2021. We are DVC members (resale) so believe we will still be able to book our room and flights aren’t a problem… but still a worry about the tickets/reservation system if still in place by then.
If it was you would you go ahead and book now hopeful in that it’s still a year away or hold off until more information is released near opening?

*CABINS and Campground, not Lodge

Not sure if here is where to ask and submit questions, but since Disney World currently won’t be accepting restaurant reservations and/or any existing restaurant reservations were cancelled, does that mean that Be Our Guest will be closed (since the only way to dine there is with reservation)?
DFB Sarah says
Rachel, not necessarily. ADRs are expected to “resume at a later date”, and it may be possible Be Our Guest could open even without reservations. We will update when/if the information emerges.
DFB Sarah says
Hi, Cat. Thanks for writing. We expect restaurants will be open. What we were told by a reservations cast member on the phone this morning is that Disney doesn’t yet know if all restaurants in the Parks and Resorts will be reopening along with Parks and Resorts, and they’re following federal guidelines on capacity limits. Hopefully we will find out more before the Parks and Resorts open, but if we don’t, we will be on-site when things begin reopening (as we have been in Disney Springs) and report on what we see. I hope that will help!
DFB Sarah says
Amy, that all jives with what we’ve been learning today.

Quite honestly.. I cannot see how annual passholders are not totally getting a crap deal here… I know that MANY of the passholders i know go on a whim..we dont decide months or weeks in advance that we’re going to make the trip.. we live in Fl and if the mood strikes we go.. so having to make reservations almost negates having a pass that offered me the ability to go anytime other than block out dates and hop from park to park.. there are waaaay too many experts saying polar opposite things about distancing and masks that siding with one is alienating so many people. I do hope this gets a little more Disneylike by July.
Sophie says
So earlier you said all DDP’s were cancelled and now you’re saying it’s suspended. Please could you clarify? Thanks
DFB Sarah says
Hi, Sophie. Disney’s language says “We have also made the difficult decision to cancel and temporarily no longer offer Disney Dining Plans.” So already-booked DDPs are cancelled, and the entire DDP program/offering is temporarily suspended. Does that help? Lots of lingo out there, and Disney isn’t even always consistent, but we’re doing our best to clarify!

We live in the UK and have a trip booked on 27th July. We are meant to be staying at CBR. Is Disney initially opening for Florida residents and then US residents or are international guests welcome immediately? Additionally, with the reservation system, does that mean park hopping during a day is out of the question? Thank you for the service that you provide here. It is so helpful.
DFB Sarah says
Alexandra, I have not seen any language specifically regarding international travelers. If Disney releases anything like that, we’ll update.
Roz says
Will my AP be extended for the amount of time the parks were closed? So much is changing. Who Knows ! But I won’t be coming back before 2021. Not with all the experiences being deleted for now
Lori Rienhardt says
I live in NYS.and have to plan my visits in concert with air travel and DVC reservations. That means usually about 11 months in advance. So if I make all these and find out I can get park “reservations “ so no park time. What is the point? Seems so restricted to me I’ll wait it out
Michelle Wade says
We have a reservation for June 22. We are DVC members with annual passes. We received a letter saying we would be eligible for a preview but I think maybe they sent that to all Annual Pass holders. We really go to Disney for the parks and do not want to use our DVC points if we can’t have some access to at least one park. We have no idea who to contact that might be able to tell us if we will be able to participate since it’s much earlier than their re-open date. Any thoughts or words of encouragement?
DFB Sarah says
Michelle, this is the info we had most recently re: AP previews. You may be right that it is AP-specific. I would recommend trying to get through to DVC member services if you have some DVC-specific questions, and we’ll keep updating whenever we learn something new.
DFB Sarah says
Roz, that is what Disney says, yes.
