While we’ve been chatting a lot about the possibility of the NBA finishing out its season in Walt Disney World (and you can read the latest on that developing story here), it also looks as though Major League Soccer will be doing so, according to an article by The Washington Post.
While the article notes that MLS has not issued an official statement, Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association have reached an agreement to continue the 2020 season.
The article goes on to state that the 26 MLS teams “will arrive in Orlando no earlier than June 24.” Teams will play at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Walt Disney World (though without live viewers).
Tournament details have not yet been released, but it’s anticipated that the league will make an announcement soon. The Washington Post also shares that players will stay in a “closed environment” at a Disney Resort hotel.

That’s not exactly correct. MLS will restart its season at Wide World Of Sports with a special tournament, but after that tournament, teams will return home and play out the season in their cities if allowed by local authorities. The players were extremely resistant about going to Orlando at all and a short tournament was all that could be done. The NBA will apparently play its full playoff schedule in Orlando, but the MLS tournament will just be for up to 6 weeks and the regular season will start back up afterward in local markets.

Ok so read on another site that the NBA seems to have locked in on Coronado resort as housing for their players to play out the rest of the season at the ESPN zone. Is there any word or rumor as to what hotel the soccer teams are using? I am just wondering what are they going to do with all the displaced guests who go (July, August, and Sept). We are going down in August on a split stay between Poly and POFQ. I am not too concerned about our stay being interrupted but now with soccer adding on I am curious what hotels they are utilizing. Coronado is a HUGE resort to move people other places from alone.

Cheryl, I’m alson personally curious, but I have not heard any speculation about MLS Resorts. We might learn more about the NBA plan tomorrow, but I’m not sure the initial info will include the Resort information. We’ll update as we learn more.

Thanks, Jason. The post does talk about the tournament, but I’m having the team update the title of the post.

I wonder if the players will wear mask. My guess is they will not. It will be very uncomfortable playing a sport while trying to breath through a mask.
