We’re anxiously counting down the days until the Disney World theme parks reopen next month!
But before they do, we’ve already booked a stay at one of the Disney World’s resort hotels which will be reopening in just a matter of days!
We’re already shown you guys our attempt at trying to place a MagicBand order now that the parks have an official reopening date and now we’re back to walk you through our experience with Disney World’s online check-in system!
Disney World is encouraging all guests to use online check-in since it’s quick, easy, and perhaps most importantly — contactless! You can do this on either Disney’s website or using the My Disney Experience app. Once you begin to check-in, Disney will ask you for your contact information so they may communicate with you via text. And don’t forget — starting June 22nd, guests will be able to access a way to virtually chat with Resort Cast Members via the My Disney Experience app.

Disney World says they may send you up to two emails or text messages prior to your arrival notifying you when your room ready. If you’re already received your MagicBand in the mail, you might receive up to three additional emails so you can go straight to your room and bypass the front desk completely. You’ll be able to unlock your room via My Disney Experience’s digital key feature or using your MagicBand.
Standard check-in will still be available, and guests whose MagicBands have been shipped to the resort will be able to pick them up at the front desk. For the next step, Disney asked us what our estimated arrival time was and if we’d like to have housekeeping service every other day (or every 4th and 8th day for Disney Vacation Club members) or decline it completely.
We were told every other day housekeeping would include light cleaning services such as the emptying of trash bins, replacement of linens, replenishing bath amenities including facial tissue and toilet paper, as well as an in-room coffee supplies including cream, sugar and other sweeteners.
If you have multiple rooms reserved, your selection will be applied to all of the rooms on your reservation.
For our resort, we were still allowed to make up to two-room location requests, although not every Disney World hotel offers guests this option in the app. Based on which resort you’ve selected, you might have to make your room requests over the phone.
Once we finished our online check-in, we received this confirmation screen and were instructed to use Disney World’s Direct-to-Room service upon our arrival.
This means we’re all set to head straight to our room once Disney World texts us our room number! We can use either the app or our MagicBands to unlock our door since we bringing some MagicBands from a previous trip that are already linked with our accounts.
All in all, the check-in process couldn’t be more straight-forward or easy-peasy! Let us know if you have any questions regarding your trip to Disney World and we hope to get them answered for you while we wait for ticket sales and bookings to resume once the new reservation system is unveiled!

Jackie Brookling says
Hi I just wondered if you decline the housekeeping service do you get a refund? Last time we stayed at Coronado Springs we asked for no housekeeping and got credit. I think it was $10 per day.
Thanks!
DFB Sarah says
Jackie, I have done that in the past, and others on the team have done so as well. Disney has stated that when Resorts reopen, guests can opt out of housekeeping. They did not speak to the issue of gift cards (which, in my experience, is what you got for opting out).
Allie says
If I do the online check in, will is still be able to cancel my reservation (within the timeline provided by Disney).
We are waiting on specifics from Disney on how the experience will be before we commit to coming. However, seems like if I do online check in I may be more likely to get communication from Disney with regards to the week we are there.
DFB Sarah says
Allie, you should still be able to cancel (unless Disney has changed their policy on this), but you may have to call to do so.
Bonnie L says
I think you just posted someone’s personal address in one of the screenshots above. Please be careful in what you post!
DFB Sarah says
Bonnie, thank you. We’re fixing that up.
Kira says
I feel like to take a decent Disney vacation you need to sign up the community college course “Disney 101!” I think the older I get, the summer I get and the more difficult this all is. Makes me sad to be too stupid to go on vacation.
Susan says
The text-to-contact addition is terrific! As a former event planner, this avenue of communication offered by other hotels made contacting someone for service so much easier!
Danielle says
I saw that Jackie asked this question but the response was vague. Is Disney giving money back in the form a of a gift card if you decline housekeeping for the length of your stay. In previous years they have done this. The amount you received was based on they Hotel level (value, moderate, deluxe…) and amount of days.
Also, on the resorts still charging guests who stay at their property a nightly parking fee?
Mr. John says
If you Call disney reservation ‘s they can help through out your vacation .
Help with ever thing you have to know they are there to make sure what you want from Disney they do it every second of the a
day ! They can give info that is not on a web site ! Ask Help me
Disney !
Jaan says
Kira. I understand. Restaurant, hotel check in, virtual queues , menus. Either everyone will walk around with phone in hand or have to trade in their flip phone like some of us old timers. Discrimination against some of the elderly?
DFB Sarah says
Danielle, we don’t know if the gift card for turning down housekeeping will still be in effect when the Resorts reopen. I’ll see if the team can find out next week. As for the nightly parking fee, Disney has indicated the fees remain.
Jon says
How early can you start the online checkin process, specifically can it be further out than 60 days from your visit?
DFB Sarah says
Jon, it can be much further out than 60 days. You should see the option in My Disney Experience.
