Select Disney World Resort hotels reopened on June 22nd. Currently, buses are the only form of Disney transportation available for guests to navigate around property.
But, even though the Monorail isn’t yet available for guest transportation, it has been spotted out and about near Magic Kingdom — with some new additions! Social distancing barriers have been added inside the Monorail.
Talk about a sight for sore eyes! We can’t take a ride on the Monorail just yet, but it looks like Disney has been giving it some test laps around Magic Kingdom — check out this picture captured by mockonerunning on Instagram!
When the Monorail isn’t out for testing, it’s been parked at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
And that’s where we noticed an interesting addition — social distancing barriers have been added inside the Monorail! Take a look at the middle of the window below!
It looks like these are separating the two sections of each monorail car, so that two separate families or groups can ride more separately.
Even though we can’t ride the Monorail yet, seeing it parked inside the Contemporary adds an extra Disney touch to the atmosphere!

Which form of Disney transportation would you feel the most comfortable using? Let us know in the comments!
Carolina says
I wonder if Disney would suspend/reduce parking charges at parks so that people don’t use Disney transportation therefore allow better social distancing????
DFB Sarah says
Carolina, no word on this, but if it happens, we’ll report.
Jeremy says
Carolina, not very likely. Resort guests will need transportation in most cases. In addition, Magic Kingdom guests would need either bus, monorail, or boat to get to the park entrance.
Nancy says
Will the trams still run guest from parking lot to ferry or monorail in the Magic Kingdom?
DFB Sarah says
Nancy, we’re not sure about this yet. We will update when the Parks open.
Tina says
Has the monorail had any updates besides social distancing? The last time we were there it was looking very dated and was out of service quite a bit.
DFB Sarah says
Tina, not that we know of. When it’s up and running, we’ll check it out.
