Have you been following along with the story of the FuelRod chargers? We’ve got some interesting updates to the saga!
Once upon a time, there was a portable charger called FuelRod that charged guests a one-time fee of $30 and promised guests Free Unlimited Swapping when visiting locations like Walt Disney World or Disneyland. FuelRod decided to change the policy and implement a $3 charge every time a guest decided to swap out their charger.
This caused a user to file a Class Action Lawsuit claiming that FuelRod used false advertising given the promise that users could always swap their chargers for free. Disney FuelRod locations temporarily lifted the charge, but now they’re BACK with an entirely different FuelRod policy!
With the new policy recently posted on the Fuelrod facebook page, eligible users who purchased a FuelRod prior to October 26th, 2019 can be granted a Founders Status. The status implies that users can continue to exchange their chargers for free! That also means that customers who bought a charger after October 26th are still required to pay the $3 exchange fee.
Ok, now FuelRod decided on a new policy. But, how do customers with a Founders Status go about swapping for free? Here we go! First, the Founders will complete this questionnaire here. Once you are verified, you must download the FuelRod app and create an account using the SAME email address you used in the questionnaire.
When you need to make a swap, hop along to a FuelRod station, and fire up the app. FuelRod will give you a scannable QR code that you will use to confirm your Founder Status and will pop out a new FuelRod.
Keep an eye out for our updates! We will definitely keep you informed as FuelRod policies may continue to change.

It’s ridiculous. False advertisement.
Brandon says
Fuel rods have ALWAYS charged a fee to swap out.
It’s only at Disney World that the swap was free.
At every single other place that I’ve ever seen a fuel rod station, it’s been no less than $3. Sometimes as high as $6.
Honestly I think it’s Disney that is changing the price. Not FuelRod.
And why do people even use these piece of garbage chargers.
I have an iPhone 6+.
A FuelRod charger might charge my phone up to 50%. If I’m lucky. On a good day. While on airplane mode.
I finally just bought a 5000mAh charging brick. Much better value than these tiny weak fuel rods. And about the same price.

Will Disney let you bring your own portable phone charger?
Kat says
Now how dumb is that? I purchased prior to Oct 2019. BUT suppose your charger is dead & so is your phone? How exactly are you supposed to access the app if your phone is dead? They didn’t quite think that through now did they?! CRAZY!
I am just gonna purchase a portable charger elsewhere. Fuel Rod keeps going against their contract & I do not intend to do business with someone shady!

Charmaine, yes!
Emily Couvreur says
I will just be bringing my own portable charger now, as long as that is allowed.
Janet says
Thanks for the info. It will come in handy once I return to the theme parks at some point in the future (when the pandemic is over).

brandon is incorrect. I bought a fuel rod 4 years ago. At that time, exchanges were free at every airport that had a machine that I attempted to use.
Larry says
Are the fuel rod kiosks up and running right now during the pandemic?
DFB Sarah says
Larry, they are!

Hello! Barely finding this post. I bought a charger about a week ago and I’m planning to visit the park (DL) in a month. Would I still be able to swap it out if i bring it into the park?
