The Disney Parks have officially reopened, but we’re still feeling the ripples of the closures.
We’ve been hanging out around EPCOT today checking out everything that’s changed since we were last here AND the 2020 Taste of EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. One hidden change we found was in the EPCOT Experience where the Spaceship Earth refurbishment and the upcoming Mary Poppins attraction have been removed from the “coming soon” video. Now, Disney has issued a statement about these two attractions.
We already know that the closure postponed the refurbishment of Spaceship Earth. In fact, construction halts had an effect on all sorts of projects in Disney parks around the world. The removal of these attractions from the video caught our eye. Could this mean these changes weren’t going to happen?
According to Attractions Magazine, Disney has released the following statement pertaining to the two attractions: “As with most businesses during this period, we are further evaluating long-term project plans. The decision was made to postpone development of [the] ‘Mary Poppins’-inspired attraction and Spaceship Earth at this time.”Â
So it seems that the Spaceship Earth refurbishment and the Mary Poppins attraction are postponed, for the time being, not yet fully canceled! We’ll monitor the status of these two projects and share any news with you as it’s released! Keep an eye on DFB for all of the latest updates about Disney World and beyond!

Not at all surprising or unexpected, but I do hope once things are more stable they keep putting some money into upgrading Epcot. I was so happy to ride Spaceship Earth before the originally planned update back in February – it’s a true classic – but it is very tired and outdated, to be honest. Most of Epcot felt like they haven’t put too much thought into making it look either “cool retro” or truly updated/futuristic to today’s standards.
It’s a great park with some great space, and I love the festivals they now put on using it as a backdrop. It deserves more love and attention!

Other than on their Disney+ subscriptions, Disney is losing a lot of money in just about all of their other businesses right now. So their will be other delays of other projects in the future until their is a vaccine for the Virus that has little to no side effects and crowd levels return to what they were several months ago

Any word on the opening of Space 220? WE are coming in October
NC-Dad says
And so the financial impacts of the shut-down begin to show. I bet there will be more to come.
FORD ADAM says
Seems funny that construction has gone on without any stoppage since March in Ohio and we are one of the hard hit states
Lucy says
If they are postponing those projects. Then Splash Mountain should also be postponed!!!
Ken says
Ohhhhh…that is too bad. I was really looking forward to what the imagineers could come up with for the Mary Poppin’s attraction. Just think of the possibilities with all those great songs to work with to color the background of the experience.
Jenn says
Does that mean spaceship earth is just closed until further notice or is the attraction still running?
Mr. John says
Postponed new up coming rides Disney needs money to finish the rides ! It will be probably 2021- 2022 it will take more time ! Hopefully the rides will be as soon as possible ! A vaccine would help Disney and everyone going to Disney Parks !
Amber Lynn Fisher says
Do we know anything about the status of Ratatouille and Space 220?
DFB Sarah says
Amber, we can’t see any progress regarding Space 220, but Ratatouille’s “Summer 2020” sign is no longer in place at the ride entrance. We’ll update on both as info emerges.
DFB Sarah says
Jenn, it’s up and running!
DFB Sarah says
Laura, so far no new information on Space 220.
Jamie says
Any news or updates about Space 220?

Is it true that there will be no wine/beer/seminars or other extra attractions at EPCOT for the Food and Wine Experience this year? I was on the edge about throwing in the towel by selling my points and Disney stock and just calling it quits after all that has happened. Then the Colin Kaepernick thing happened and now I hear there will be no other extra attractions at the F&W event. Looks like we will cancel our family vacation, Grand Villa at OKW for the last week of October, and go ahead and list the DVC contract points for sale. The rest of you enjoy your “new” Disney experience. I’m done.

Disney, in my opinion, displayed and incredible amount of stupidity in halting all of their construction projects during the shutdown. They should have doubled-down, not shut down, those projects. Does one need to take an incompetency examination to be considered for a management position in Disney??? My wife and I are resident annual passholders who are becoming more and more disillusioned with Disney due to the corporate stupidity that seems to be the norm nowadays. This may be our last year of being annual passholders.
DFB Sarah says
Bill, Food & Wine, thus far, is offering no special events.
DFB Sarah says
Jamie, nothing yet.
DDS says
@Michael Burch Decision to halt constuction? The statewide shut down would have caused that. Pretty sure if they were allowed to, they would have worked. With the 50th Anniversary in 2021, they had big plans and I doubt construction walls, and not fully functional attractions were part of them.
