Disney World Annual Passholders have had to make a lot of decisions this year.
With choices between extensions and refunds, changing expiration dates, and high-demand Disney Park Passes; we’ve been dishing out a LOT of news for Annual Passholders over the past few months. Well, now we have an update for those who have opted to cancel their passes — we now know when your refund should arrive!
According to the Annual Passes: Know Before You Go page on the Disney World website, those who opted to cancel their passes instead of receiving the 1-month extension to balance out the Disney Park Pass will receive their refunds to their original form of payment by mid to late September.
As a note, if your original form of payment is not available, refunds may take up to an additional month. Keep in mind that the final day to opt into cancellation of the pass is August 11th and passes will no longer be valid for entry beginning August 12th.

Is there a way to know that they are processing my request? I called the number listed earlier. The Cast Member said he’d take my info and submit the request, and that I would receive a follow-up from Disney. He didn’t have an estimate on when that might be. I’ve noticed that the extension from shutdown, plus the additional month has been added to my pass, which isn’t what I’m wanting. I’m concerned that my request might get “lost” along the way. Do you have any tips regarding confirming that a telephone request is in the pipeline? Thanks.

Cancelled my Oct trip and AP. The experience being offered by Disney does not appear to be enjoyable nor a good value.
DFB Sarah says
DB, we don’t have any other tips on that. Sorry! Hopefully they can give you some confirmation if you call, but as you’ve described, they don’t always have the info we need.

I live on the West Coast and cancelled my family’s four WDW Platinum Annual Passes several weeks ago. So far I have received two refunds for approximately $16 each. I have no idea where the other two refunds are. It’s been over a week now so I’m going to have to break down and call them again. Ugh. I’m not looking forward to the telephone hold time.

I’m disgusted and through with Disney. The much touted REFUND is 50 cents on the dollar. I lost big money on 2 barely used Premium Passes plus Water Park access. Days and hours on the phone and no one would even talk to me, just putting me back on hold for another miserable wait. They will never get another penny from me. Walt has been spinning in his grave for decades

I cancelled my Park Hopper tickets and they had no idea how long it would take…when three weeks came and went, I called and I was told it would take 21 business days and that is exactly how long it took for that ticket refund to show up on my credit card. My hotel deposit was back on my credit card 2 days after cancelling it but the tickets took forever.

Just came back from a weekend over at BoardWalk – Half day Friday, started at Disney Springs had a good lunch and a couple of drinks. Went over to BoardWalk around 1430 to check in – did the on-line thing, but was not receiving any information about an expect room available time. Went up to the desk – yep had an issue with our reservation – about 5 minutes after the desk clerk went behind closed doors got my room number texted to me. He did have to check my magic bands and park reservations first to make sure we still had them. Went to the pool, enjoyed it then started looking for supper at Boardwalk, could not go to EPCOT as we did not have reservations – Bakery was open, take out pizza was open – ended up at the Trattoria – ask did we have reservations – No – well they eventually had someone who had not showed up for their reservation so they gave it to us. Walked thru the restaurant and there were probably as many tables open that were not flagged as social distancing so did not see the issue. Needless to say – we have reservations in late October that we will be cancelling since our passes expire in September and I cannot reserve any park space yet. Plus we will be either letting our passes expire or just cancel them since we cannot get full use out of them. I understand, but I choose to wait for better times. Yes did go to EPCOT on Saturday very disappointed with most of the shops being close and very limited Taste of EPCOT.

If you have an AP paid in full are they only giving 1 month extensions? I thought they said they would extend the pass for the total amount of days the park is closed.
Darlynne says
DB Dukes, I did the same, canceling both my August trip and the remainder of my AP. I started asking questions back in April and have received periodic updates since then.
They also extended my AP, not at my request, but I think that was automatic. I have confirmed by phone and email that Disney has my information and a return is being processed.
If you are concerned, call the AP number again. The cast members have been very helpful and, if you can stand 30-60 minutes on hold, informative.

I paid mine with a credit card and received a refund in the mail a few days ago with a check. my husband hasn’t received his yet.
Mike v says
How about how they are allocating the cost
Originally read that it was from time parks closed until reopening which was about 1/3 of the cost
From what this new cancellation sounds we’re only getting a 1 month refund
Any ideas?
Deb says
Its unfortunate, The way Disney is handling their AP’s We are DVC and have AP’s in Both Cali and Fl. I have called to cancel Florida, I have been on the line 3hrs and was told by a cast member they take the request and send to escalation team and somebody would be contacting me. Fast Forward 6 wks, I called again – another 3 hrs and with great frustration was told, YES we see you requested a refund and that is all I can tell you. Somebody will be contacting you to process your refund by August/Sept. I said can you tell me what the amount will be, NO – Can you tell me anything because depending on the amount, I may choose to take the 4-5 month extension and when might that show up in my account, NO – She said I am sorry but we are fielding calls and these are unprecendeted times and we do not have access to refund options/extensions. She actually said, please be patient with us (and by the way, I was calling the AP line) So frustrating….So bottom line is we sit till September and if nothing happens, I suppose place another call that may get me NO WHERE ! and this is Just My Florida experience…CALI is another BIG STORY 🙁
Vickie lintner says
I called July 7 to request the partial refund for the annual pass, we have 2. I was told our request would be documented.
We got a letter saying we could request a partial time during the closure, we did not want the extension and it was already on my Disney experience. I expected that would change once I put our request in for the partial refund.
Sam says
Refunds mid to late September? Shame on Disney. It’s not like Disney doesn’t have a few bucks in the bank. Really?
Pretty sickening to read Disney is holding onto pass-holders money. It’s really an easy process it’s called a CREDIT CARD REFUND. Takes all of 60 seconds to process.
I call BS.
DFB Sarah says
Bob, they’re extending the length of the closure plus an additional month.
Daniel Honick says
One would expect more from Disney !
David Norwood says
For those that opted to cancel the remainder of their AP following closure on 3/15, and have received a refund for unused days, can you clarify at what rate Disney refunded? (i.e. 100% of remaining “value”, 50% remaining “value”, etc.)
I would like to think they would use a simple formula like below, but when we called to ask they said they could not share the formula, or provide any estimate for the refund amount… which seems unfair to the consumer. Very hard to decide what’s best if they won’t tell you how much they will refund.
EXAMPLE
——————————
AP w/o blackout dates (365 days) = $1119 before tax
Days used before March 15th closure = 65 (for example)
Days remaining = 300
Percent remaining = 82% (300/365)
Refund = Purchase price ($1119) x percent remaining (82%) = $995.91
Above assumes no blackout dates, and Disney refunds 100% of unused days from the date of closure.
The Boss says
You wait forever to ride an attraction at disney. I feel this long wait to get my refund is just part of the magic.
Valerie says
Those of you with the AP cancellation concerns are correct. Originally they said from the time the park closed. I called and cancelled before the park reopened. Apparently it was not processed!!! Now they are saying it will be canceled effective August 12th. That was not what I originally was told as they will now only provide a partial refund. As stated by another commenter originally the refund was going to be affected the date of the park closing. I have been on hold several times, over several days, and well over 8 hours in total. Disney is not handling it well and customer service has been terrible both in attitude and response time!!!!!
Justin Libak says
I picked on July 14 that I was going to cancel my pass. However, i want to keep my passes. Do you know if you can cancel the cancellation?
DFB Sarah says
Justin, I’d recommended calling Disney.
Claudia says
Nothing like waiting until the last minute to cancel my AP. They were set to expire November 2020. I was told they would now expire March 2021. I thought we would only get 1 additional month, so I was expecting them to be cancelled in December 2020. But the gal I talked to said 1 month, plus the days the park was closed. Still going to cancel because my husband is high risk for the virus. Not sure what the amount will be what we get back.
Bernardo says
I called and canceled my passes on July 29th They said I would be receiving a confirmation email for the cancellation. Or so I thought. They said it would be effective August 11th. Well August 12th I got billed again. I called again August 12th and was told, OK your passes are canceled. I asked if I would get any type of confirmation all I got was “Well its Disney, you might or you might not, but I would not expect one:. This is ridiculous. Pass holders for 8 years and will never give our business to Disney again. We just canceled our Christmas Reservations at Fort Wilderness… I know my passes are not canceled, as they still show active on My Disney app. If I get billed for September, I will go to American Express and report it as fraud. Let them deal with it. I have spent at least 7 hours on hold between end of June to August 12th.
Bernardo says
Update from my post yesterday. A refund for august charges hit my amex yesterday afternoon. Then I received a call from the V.I.P Passholder Help Desk letting me know that I had been incorrectly charged for August, since I had opted to cancel my passes, and that I was being refunded. Thank you for making this right. I was told to expect the refund for July sometime mid to late september.
DFB Sarah says
Bernardo, I’m glad they made it right for you!
Merlin says
From all the people as angry as i am i see a class action lawsuit in the future for everyone getting stiffed on the refund.
Josh says
I’ve called 3 different times to make sure my annual passes were cancelled. I’m still being charged every month. Feeling a little helpless about this.
Ericka says
I bought my annual pass with gift cards , I called to receive my refund . I received confirmation via email That my refund is being processed to expect my refund within 7 days. So … that was june29th still no refund and also when they told me it would be returned to the card I used I said that’s a gift card I no longer have as I used them. They informed me of a check by mail. Still waiting , 4 calls to vip passholder and still nothing , I called again last week mind u October 10th and still have gotten no where.
I am so super disappointed in Disney with this situation,
I rather would have a discount on another annual pass.
And btw, the refund a measly 148.00 … whoop te do for 3 1/2 months… ?
